Agree with the Pornstar Daiquiri as the obvious choice for passion fruit vanilla, but I also think the recent video you did on Shannon Mustipher’s Kill Devil Reef would also be great. And you know my love for the Demerara Dry Float. Which of these would I try? Got to be the Hurricane. Pat O’s in N.O. has ruined the Hurricane for most people- the cocktail when properly made is SO delicious.
II have bought BG Reynolds Red Fassionola in the U.S. but it's been a while since I've seen it and haven't been able to find it in the last year or so. Made a great Hurricane
Cocktail & Sons in U.S. the only problem is it is seasonal. But it is made here in Louisiana and ship all over the country. I use it in my hurricanes and it is amazing!!
I used it in hurricane's, too, but found it too strawberry-forward. Delicious, but lacking in the tartness. I split the C&S fassionola with homemade passionfruit syrup and that was more to my liking.
A lot less sweet than the HFCS stuff that Pat O's peddles these days. I used 1oz of lime to 1/2 of C&S Fassionola and it balances well for me but I like mine slightly on the sweet side.
Passion fruit and vanilla? Why Steve that could only mean Pornstar martini cocktail! With rum obviously 😉 BTW how long will a bottle last once opened and do you have store it in the fridge?
Now that is the BIG QUESTION. Honestly, I don’t know. I can’t even give you a ball park. A month to a year. As it’s a new product.. 🤷♂️. If it ferments in the next few days I’ll let you know 😂. I would suspect a bare minimum of 3 months opened opened. But we’ll see.
Obviously as a new product that I've had 2 weeks, I can't give you the unofficial line. But to give you the official line that 90% of Syrup brands around the world use; "Once Opened Best before 3 months". I've not come across any Syrup brand that advertises longer than that, simply as in the UK it's part of Food Laws. However, if you've used Syrups, you'll know that some brands last years. The point they're making is that they can guarantee it will taste its best within those 3 months, but after, maybe there will be slight loss of colour and taste. Very few go off...unless they're posh brands that don't like to use stabilsers. But as i say to anyone at home or industry. If you can't use a product within 3 months, don't buy it. But that said, I have syrups at home opened 2 years, They're still fine. But I wouldn''t do that in a Bar set up. And as it's a Syrup, I persdonally wouldn't freeze it. I suspect you have no need to. But come back to me in 3 months after one has been opened that long! Obvs I can't tell you the answer to that now!
Yeah, I remembered the BG after, but having spoken to a few US guys in the past, I remember they don't rate it as its just Passion Fruit, Cherry and Mango. Here in the UK, we obvs don't get it. But i think if i was buying a Fassionola, I'd want it to be a bit more towards what I'd blend togetherat home. 🤷♂️
It sounds good. I tried making fassionola once and it did not turn out well. I mixed and blended a lot of the right fruit and it somehow ended up with a green banana overtone that was not good at all. There was no banana. Go figure. :-)
@@StevetheBarmanUK : A few dollars and some fruit. It was almost good and yet it was bad. :-) We live and learn. I do very much enjoy your videos. FYI: I saw you mention tequila the other day. I have been experimenting. 2 Tequila Blanco (I use Arette or Tres Agaves because they are good mixers) 1 Giffard Banana Liqueur 1/4 Lime Juice 5 drops Allspice Dram -Adjust to taste but the St Elizabeth Allspice is powerful so just enough to enhance. I was shocked by how well banana liqueur blended with tequila.

Fab video Steve! Defo a fan on this style with cocktail inspiration! How did this syrup compare to your homemade blend? The Tiki one would be my first choice but i did think the fassionola would go great with aperol so that would be a close second! 🍹🍹
