Why This Little Girl's Body Will Never Be Found 

I met her father a few years ago in Dayton where I also lived. He is still devastated as if it just happed today. My prayers for him and his x-wife.

Erica Baker doesn't deserve this, she needs to be found. Her family deserve to have a grave to visit, I'm sure they would love to give her a decent burial. Their pain & torment has gone on long enough. The entire story is heartbreaking.

Since you're in the Midwest, I'd love for you to feature my cousin Vanessa Cook's story. She was a probation officer, and she was kidnapped, gang r**ed, tortured and held captive for days before being shot in the head and left in a field in Gary, Indiana. She was 25 years old. The killers were 16, 17, and 19 yrs old. They got ridiculously short sentences. But when the eldest was released ... he does it again to a 15 yr old girl! Vanessa was just recently recognized as the 1st Black woman who died in the line of duty in Indiana and had a building named on her honor in Gary in February of this year. This case brings chills all over my body. I remember it well because I was 19 and visiting my family in Cleveland when it happened. Rest well, sweet girl! You are remembered by so many people than you could ever begin to imagine now...💔💔💔 (EDIT: The dedication was on February 28th, 2022. I originally said January, but I was mistaken and corrected it. I appreciate all the condolences as well. I was exactly 9 months old to the day when this happened, and I'm now 42. I grew up "in the shadows of Vanessa" as the kids in my generation of the family say. It scared our parents so much to let us out of their sight. This was before being a helicopter parent was even a thing. But because she was kidnapped in her neighborhood just going to the store after work, and we still lived in the area, it was hard for them to allow us to just be kids. We're so close in my generation because our cousins were almost the only friends we were allowed to have. But as an adult I appreciate it because we're all still very tapped into one another's lives and still have close bonds. We're just happy that after 41 years, the state finally recognized that her death was because of her position working for them and she's finally gotten her flowers. I just wish her mom had lived to see it. She passed on January 20th, Vanessa's bday, this year. R.I.H. to my grandfather's twin, my great-aunt and Van's mom Edna Robinson Cook and her father my great-uncle Frank. W. Cook).

It's a darn shame that little girl can't even walk her the dog around her neighborhood but some pervert or or druggie doing harm to them

Hey, you're in my neck of the woods! I definitely remember this case. What kills me is that Jan Frank is now deceased, and her husband signed a waiver so her attorney is no longer bound by lawyer-client privilege. She could help get Erica's family some sort of closure but still refuses to talk... Such a sad case.

The whole 'hit and run' story is bs. They abducted that girl and sexually assaulted her then killed her. Their accident scenario was just more palatable.

I think the "hit and run" story is BS. I think the girl was s*xually assaulted. They would have called the ambulance if that was the case, or more callously, just left her where she was.

It amazes me how many children are abducted and never heard from again. We were in the military and lived on base most of the time. You always felt safe there but now I shudder to think how many predators might have been near my children when playing outside. Sad story!

From Kettering Ohio here I'm so thankful that you did this story I remember that day all too well my children were very small my oldest daughter was 2 years younger . I hung missing signs for months. Sad thing in this case the lawyer for that woman knew exactly where she was . And even after her death the lawyer still refused to disclose the information . so very sad

I lived just across the street from Indian Riffle park in Kettering when this happened. I normally took my kids to the park every day but did not that day because of the rain….I’ve regretted that ever since 😓

That sounds like a cover-up story with the van hitting Erika and then putting her body in the van ,they are trying to distance themselves from the real crime that they committed.

Oh man....I live about 2 miles from there. Lamont was so close to me and I missed him! This story was huge around here back then. Something very sketchy happened, that's for sure.

I remember that one. Police dropped the ball on that one. Even if she is found they screwed up so bad that the guy most likely would never be convicted.

As a parent of four children myself I cannot imagine what her mother and father went through.. and I'm sure her father beat himself up for years for not buying those tickets to the school dance that night therefore she would have never been there to walk the dog that evening I'm sure that plays in his head a lot..

If it was my daughter I would of gotten the truth out of that guy. Even if It meant I would spend life in prison myself, after doing what I had to do to get him to talk.

Made me scared of the world when she disappeared. I was a year younger then her. My cousin goes to this school now. My niece plays at this park. So very close to home.

I didn’t know there wasn’t a statue of limitations for murder. That poor little girl frightened and severely injured in that van. Beth Lewis is just despicable and needs to come clean about what happened. Crimes against children are beyond deplorable. So many years later, family with no closure. I remember this story here in Ohio. I would see cars in my hometown driving around with Erica’s picture on the back window and the words “have you seen me” So sad! As a mother I cannot imagine losing my child and never even being able to lay them to rest let alone not really knowing exactly what happened to them😢

Lamont. If you are ever in the Phoenix area I hope you will do a story about a young girl that was abducted from the streets of Mesa , Arizona in January 1999 and has never been found. Her name is Mikelle Biggs and her abduction has left Arizona devastated . Her sister and her were waiting for the ice cream truck and her sister ran home to get more money and when she returned the front tire on her sisters bike was still spinning . It was that fast. She was gone and has never been found. Please share this story. We will never forget her.

GPR(ground penetrating radar) is an amazing piece for forensic investigations. I’ve personally been on two cases where the body was located this way. I owned a GPR unit for about 5 years while doing forensic archeology. There were three different sets of Native American remains we were able to repatriate to the tribe they were associated with.

Thank u for covering this I was a literal child when this happened. This was my 1st Missing Persons Case that caught my attention when it was all over the News. So sad. & to happen so closely I was petrified!

Of course abductions took place even back then in very nice neighbourhoods. It is never safe for a child that young to be out on her own . There are no absolutely safe places .

When I was a kid, I always got mad at my dad when he wouldn't let me and my younger sister leave the yard or the house when we were kids. He always made sure he knew where we were. I see this story and I understand why he was so protective. Poor Erica.

The original person that called 2 yrs later & gave police Gabriel & his GF’s names- was that an anonymous tip or did they eventually interview them? IF they’re still anonymous, they possibly know more. Someone out there knows something. I wish this poor family could get some answers that would bring their baby girl back home to them.

Thank you Lamont, another Dayton story of a poor little girl. I live in the area, and this story has haunted the community, since there has been no "closure." By the way, Jan Franks died in prison (I can't remember why she was there), and detectives questioned her attorney, who would not give up her client's "secrets" even though her client was dead, so she spent time in jail for obstructing. Erica would be 30 now, living, hopefully, a happy life. 🥲
