Watched this just a week ago, and then 5 days later found their cans by accident in my local fish store here in the Netherlands. Bought one of each kind, and these are the best canned goods I have ever tasted! I have become a regular customer for certain.
Its so wholesome how the boss treats his employees so well and says that his team like family will be better than any machine ever will be. I am proud to say that I have eaten many Nuri sardines, and after watching this video I will continue to do so with pride!
@@tylermurch7891 In a work environment like that people don't do the same task day in and out. There's processes that require rotation of jobs and different skill sets. But, judging from your vapid response you only care about "mer jerbs" type mentality.
@@strongfp it is ironic how condescending you are on the one hand thinking you are open minded yet being so adamant in assuming generalities about how you think I must be.
@@tylermurch7891 The standard of living in Portugal is much different then it is in a western society. Compensation to those workers isn't nearly as valued as it is in the states, and wealth inequality isn't running rampant either. Your virtue signaling just made you sound like a soulless sack. That smile on that womans face looked pretty damn genuine to me.
In regards to your first comment toward me. All personal things aside. A- you have absolutely no evidence or facts to base your assertions on. B- if your assertions were correct, productivity drops when there are highly paid workers doing low skilled jobs. Look at the price of these Niru brand sardines. $30 a can.
I was eating a can of their sardines (spiced, tomato sauce) as the video played. I've done the same with other foods that have accompanying videos such as this one; e.g., capicola. It certainly improves the experience. It also helps me to forget, at least for a little while, the expense of these oftentimes imported artisanal food products.
Nuri's spiced tomato sauce sardines are likely the very best I've ever tasted. Not at all what I was expecting after having tried several other brands' tomato sauced sardines. So WONDERFULLY different!!
God bless the workers in these factories and the owners for continuing the simple tradition of canning sardines by hand with original ingredients, love and dedication.
They could cut cost and automate, but they don't because that's what makes their products unique This is lacking in every industry nowadays - integrity. Even coca cola reduced the carbonation to save up on that cost.
To be honest. The most important part of a canned sardine is that everything is quality bio ingredients without chemicals The rest they can canned it by machine no problem
I appreciate that the owner of this business didn’t automate the whole process with the technological improvements, he kept them even though he can fire them to satisfy his greed, he treat them like a family , you have a very good place in heaven old man 👨🏻🦳❤️
I also appreciate that, but the process where they wrap the can with plastic? yeah that's too tedious and also create unnecessary waste. what do you think?
@@slumberstudio4757 This is a specialty for Austrian customers. AFAIK they have exactly the same Sardines in cans with everything printed on them for all other countries. It really pays to buy Nuri - they are excellent and I like to support this company and it's workers.
I actually had the honor of kneeing him on his groin over a dispute about sardines. He also tried to show one of the old women in a scalder. He’s done that several times over the years to old woman. Scalds them to death. Great sardine maker truly one of the worlds most despicable human beings.

@@oldironsides4107 woah. do/did you work for the company or were you a customer, supplier etc.? i mean don't imagine the average person having a very serious dispute with the manager right...
Bravo to the owner that persisted in making these the traditional way and treats the employees like family, I am going to order some to taste and support them. Well done.
I first watched this video a couple weeks ago, then went to the Amazon site and ordered a variety pack of these sardines. I don't consider myself a seafood snob but I've been eating all types of seafood my whole life, coming from an Asian/Nordic lineage (almost 70 years) and I've had my share of sardines. These I must say are one of the best I've had, just short of having fresh grilled sardines right out of the net. Obrigado, from America.
Wait so this company makes the Nuri brand sardines and the Pinhais brand? I’ve seen both brands on amazon, and was trying to decide between the 2 to buy.
These are the BEST sardines! I went on a sardine research binge many years ago and discovered them. A few years ago I was visiting family and found out my step-dad likes sardines. I showed him this exact video on RU-vid. He was amazed! I promptly ordered him the variety pack for Christmas. He loved them too!
The way he value and treasure his employees is the reason why the company still thrives today , god bless and i wish to taste that beautifully made sardine
My father Loved these,,, my father was a machinist I remember when I was a little boy I’d stay up late waiting for him to get home on second shift he’d drink some Strohs beer and eat a can or two of these sardines and we’d watch late night television together.
Peggy Smulligan My pop would only drink Strohs beer from a glass long neck tavern bottle then he would pour it from there into a glass a 🥃 short bar glass he would buy that Strohs from the old corner Inn bar and bring it home that way when he was sitting around home that’s what he drank I remember helping him load the empty returnables up in the bed of the truck he’d have five or six cases or more saved up overtime and turn them in to get a cheaper case,,, when I got older I tried Strohs a few times I could never drink it it went down smoothly it was very satisfying however if I set out to get drunk on it it would end up busting my head and I’d take a terrible headache off of the stuff after a while
william foreman god bless the working man. They are disappearing at the speed of light replaced by people who hate our country and refuse to ever work.
I bought a 4-pack from Amazon because it's not available in Australia after watching this documentary. Way more than what I would've paid for 4 tins of sardines but seeing how proud the workers are to put on their label, it's my small gift to them.
Just got my 4-pack from Amazon. Wow, I didn't know there was a difference in artisan-made sardines. It's a treat to have, too bad they aren't sold in local Aussie markets.
I ordered a few cans of the sardines in olive oil off amazon and they are absolutely incredible. Not only are the fish much bigger than the sardines in use to here in the US, but they had so much flavor. Normally I have to add salt and pepper to canned sardines just to make them palatable, but these were so good, I didn’t need any seasoning whatsoever. Even the leftover olive oil in the can was so good that I was dipping up spoonfuls. 10/10 would recommend.
I just ordered 4 of spicy tomato and 4 spicy olive oil from Amazon also, have a feeling these will be amazing (but expensive...)... and yes, I see there are only 3-4 per can, not 10-12 like the cheap crap...
so, pardon the ignorance, but I've never had canned sardines. do you eat them just by themselves? on crackers? what's the tastiest way? and which ones are the best? spiced? with/tihout tomato sauce? thank you!
The spicy Nuri sardines have almost cult status in Austria for some 100 years. The old-style wrapping of the cans, as shown in this video, is part of the cult and deemed essential!
I am from Goa and I would like to thank Portugal for introducing such amazing dishes in Goa. Lot of houses are still alive made by Portuguese 400 years ago. Goan miss Portuguese culture. Love from Goa.
@@drneo13 here's a fact for you, a native from Goa was very kind and thanking the Portuguese for the positive influences they left in his culture, a portuguese native responded back with kindness and love to make a wholesome exchange and you ruined everything by being a dick.
I'm lucky to be able to buy these exact Sardines at a grocery store in Texas. They are 6x the price of the Sardines I get at Costco, but they are %100 worth the money as an occasional treat. Seriously they are leagues better than the cheap sardines. Hard to even compare them as products

My grandmother lived in Portugal from 1964 until her death in 2001. I've eaten sardines weekly for decades. I buy cans of them from my supermarket here in Germany. All around us prices are up up up but my cans of fish remain the same. Tasty, delicious & nutritious.
I love the fact the Quality Director knows the whole history and process. I know he's from the family that started the business, but I think this guy is a huge asset from a product quality standpoint - nothing sub-par is going to happen on his watch.
I'm from America and after seeing this amazing company I will try to eat yuri sardines exclusively. Theres a special place in my heart for family owned businesses so if I can in some small way help keep those people working, I will try. 👏
Yes, you are right. My best memories are of simple days, family, good hearty meals, love and laughter. WHY want to be rich, when this is the greatest treasure on earth! 😊💖
That is going to, hopefully, be one of the big takeaway lessons of the Coronavirus Pandemic - live slower, spend more time doing the simple things, more time with family and friends, and less consumption of useless crap.
My dad loves Portugese sardines in can that's the only ones he eats. Ever since I tried them I have been hooked on em. Don't think it's this brand but the Portugese do it right‼️
I was in the grocery store today and saw a can of sardines, I got nostalgia of my father eating them with my brother and I, and immediately threw it in the shopping cart. I haven't eaten sardines in 7 years. Portuguese food always gives me great childhood memories, my father is the only person who gave me a sense of my culture. I hope I can pass this down to my children.
@Neo Capable Technology And as a proud Portuguese I will appreciate and thank you for preserving our Culture my friend! Thank you so much! Viva Portugal! 🇵🇹 Cheers. ✌️
I'm from a Hispanic background and I have memories of my dad eating can sardines. It's been probably close to maybe 20 years since the last time I tried them
Very impressed with the company's mission of keeping the process traditional and taking care of it's workers. I haven't seen this brand on my store shelf but I will request it. Would love to try them.

@@davidyudisha8231 Gloves are worse than barehands. When you cook you generally wash hands VERY often (I used to wash my hands 15-20 times an hour when I was a chef) compare that to people who wear gloves, who wouldn’t change them out nearly as often thus making them bacteria filled.
I love this community and the factory. All of this can easily be automated but the owners value their employees over profits. Very rare these days. I will try and only buy these sardines to keep this tradition going. Good luck and a lovely insight into the work that goes into producing this excellent product
Its not really about valuing employees over profits though. Its all about te business model. The way its made is a big part of how they justify the prices they charge. If tgey automated it like everyone else, theyd be trounced by the competition
It always brings me great joy to see my fathers home country and people from there talking about the things they love with so much respect. I really hope I get to visit there one day.
I ordered some of the tomato ones from amazon after watching this video. They are closer to a good tuna in flavor than the sardines i'm used to, low in salt, and very mild.
*꧁༺his girl༻꧂ * google "nuri sardines." I found some for sale on Amazon as well as an online Portuguese grocer website that sells them. I only could find the spiced in olive oil tho.

I watched this video last year and wanted to try these sardines because of it. So I ordered a fancy assortment box. I would have never guessed I’d like sardines but our whole family absolutely loves these! Our kids even eat them! I can’t eat other sardines now. I can't help but say: Portugal is the best country in the world, I've been to Portugal back in 2003-2004 where I've been working and living and I've got to tell you the people are so friendly and so welcoming, the food is great the streets are clean and the beaches are so pristine that I've decided to move to Faro Algarve and next year I'll open a private practice ( I'm a therapist, a clinical psychologist), God bless Portugal and the portuguese people 🤗
I've been a fan of sardines when I was a kid back in Philippines, I maybe the one out of the 3 children of my parents who enjoys sardines and I tried what we have on local stores. And now we migrated to the US I saw this Nuri sardines and thinking I know I saw this on the mall but never really tried one. This sardines about $3.99 each but man it's the best sardines I've ever had I bought like 4 flavors and eat them in one go. I always treat myself to this brand from time to time whenever I feel like craving for a good sardine to me this is the best.
@@noone2701 The taste of the one with tomato sauce is very simple yet way better than the canned sardines in PH...the tomato sauce tastes fresh like its less processed...and the sardines taste so light and fresh also...I love it

For many years I have eaten Portuguese sardines, even in my youthful days at college when most students didn't have enough money to live on, I always had sardines on my shopping list, plus pasta shells and flour. Now I am retired and rich (🙂) I still have these food items in my kitchen cupboard. 😋

I've been eating sardines in the can since I was born. In my islands of Azores Portugal there's a factory that my Father worked. But the best sardines is the fresh grilled ones with a cooked patato, corn made bread and a glass of red wine.

I buy this brand regularly (imported to Germany) and it’s hands-down the best canned fish in the world. I’ve tried many other brands also in Italy and nothing comes close. Mainly olive oil quality etc. thank you for this movie
I love this brand! It’s a pleasure to see what goes into this amazing product! Nothing else like the taste of these! More expensive for sure, but so worth it!
I was in Portugal previously with my wife, being Australia-Turkish, I’ve had my fair share of canned seafood. I’ve tried canned tuna from Australia, to canned fish in Germany and even Mexico, UK and the States. There is but one brand and type of canned seafood that sticks out amongst all Pinhão Canned Sardines extra spice.
