Why Toyota Land Cruiser is the Most Trusted 4x4 Ever Made

Greg - Your Car Angel - shares his thoughts on why the Toyota Land Cruiser is the ultimate and most most trusted 4x4 ever made. The FJ20, FJ40, J55, J60, J62, J80, 100 series and the 200 series is talked about in depth. Solid axles, independent suspension, FZ engines, fuel injection, leaf springs and much much more. Reliability is the big key in all Land Cruisers.
Land Rover and Range Rover were both competing 4x4's but though they were capable off roaders and overland vehicles, they had many mechanical problems when compared to the Land Cruiser.

Superbly done. Really enjoyed (and loving this Beethoven you wind out with... ). Our family in the 1970s used to have an International Travelall in forest green whose vibe I just loved. Of course, those where the days when no one wore seatbelts, and we kids were just hopping over into the rear area like dogs. Those older ones remind me of them, only no doubt more reliable. But I've always loved the 1991-1996 era ones for beauty.

Greg, Thank you so much for posting this video!! My wife and I bought our 1999 Land Cruiser in 2001. At that time it had 19,000 miles on it........now it has 223,000 miles on it. In the 18 years we have owned it, this 100 series Land Cruiser has only had to be in ONCE for UNSCHEDULED service. As you have stated in your video.....a true testament to the standard at which these vehicles were built to. We still own that vehicle and there is no way we would ever part with it. About a month ago I went to a local Toyota dealer to pick up 2 heater hose T fittings. On the way out, a salesman said, "Instead of fixing the Toyota you own, why don't you bring it in and let us offer you a fair price on a trade."............to which I replied, "you could offer me what I paid for it in 2001, and I still would not sell it!" Thank You again for such an Awesome video! Toyota Land Cruiser, the best SUV EVER!

That was truly wonderful. I own a 200 cruiser, bought from new in 2014 and plan to run it until it’s wheels come off. Which means that it will see me out. I live in the UK where we get the Diesel engines, and mine has the 1VD-FTV. An absolute joy to drive, with 650Nm from 1600rpm, turbo whistle under load (they are VG turbos) and V8 burble, it’s a beauty. I suspect it’s also totally indestructible. I am a Toyota super fan, and this was truly a case of you preaching to the choir. As soon as I saw the title, I was like “yep, let’s settle in, this is going to be great”, especially because you are thorough and very knowledgeable. Thank you again, that was terrific! PS: the LS400/430 is a also contender for the best engineered and built car ever made. Truly an automotive icon. The UN should give it UNESCO world heritage status 🤭😏🤓

The engine is reliable and after almost 290.000km it has no oil consumption between oil changes which is 5.000km, also the engine in my LC has an extra factory centrifugal oil filter that helps with emissions and carbon build up.

Great video Greg - we share your sentiments exactly. For completeness, the Prado does still carry a Land Cruiser badge, and is designated 90, 120, 150 series in the rest of the world, but North America knew the 120 series as the Lexus LX470. The Prado earlier version (up to 2003) which was the 90 and 95 series, available with 3.0 TD or 3.4 V6. The 120 Series also with a 3.0TD or 4.0 V6 from 2003 to 2009, then the 150 series which sold from 2009 - current, available in 3.0 TD or 4.0 V6 options.

Wow, man i really enjoyed watching this. Personally I love the Land Cruiser and have owned an FJ Cruiser 2013 model a Lexus LX470 which shared so much from the 100 series. This cars can run forever!!🔥 You are very right on the pricing the 200 series is way outta range for the ordinary enthusiasts. Watching from Dubai.

Great video. It’s not often to see land cruiser videos. Even though I knew most of this, it was nice seeing someone explain the same. I Had an 06 100 and it was my favorite vehicle. Unfortunately, it needed quite a bit of work around 200k and I couldn’t justify the cost so switched to a GMC Denali. I’ve never felt as comfortable or connected to the road in the replacement truck. I’ll be in a 16 200 as soon as possible. Nothing feels the same as a land cruiser. That’s what I’ve learned. It’s worth the asking price, at least the used asking price ;)

Look, there are things that are as (or even a bit more) capable in stock form (throw enough $ at ANYTHING and you can make it work,im talking of the showroom floor) but NOTHING holds value as well and is as reliable as a Land Cruiser.The next model coming is a game changer as well with factory rear coils, the rear leaves are junk on rd and being spring under they do hang up when going gets tough off road and don't flex worth a pinch of shit.I always get a bit jelly when i see what a well set up 105 can accomplish vs my 76, but all is forgiven when i put the boot in and here that glorious v8 through my custom exhaust.

Here in Australia, I was very lucky to have bought one of the very last of the 200 series in 2021; a Sahara, the top spec model, although all models have the 4.5 Litre twin turbo diesel V8, with the compacted graphite block!! The car is a work of art, appreciating by up to 70%, because Aussies Want the V8, and the "Hot V6" of the 300 series is considered a developmental motor at best. The KDSS hydraulic suspension keeps the car from swaying at all, in dirt or on road. If I was pressed, I would have to consider: would I give up the LandCruiser, or the house!! In Australia, the LandCruiser is King!!!

My first was a 55 series on which the odometer clicked over to all zeroes when I had it, and i was then sold on landcruisers for ever. I have since had a 60, a 75 troopy, and now my 105. Loved them all. Great video by the way.

@dunxy

Its a glorious engine, soo much torque.Lots of other way smaller capacity DI turbo diesels around the place here, many with roughly similar numbers to the 1vd-ftv But its the availability of the torque that makes the v8 eat everything! No clutch slipp required for taking of, pulls from well under 1k rpm all the way to 3ish. The smaller milk bottles can kind of keep up on the rd (of rd no comparison, v8 eats everything just tractors up hills you cant even walk up!) but they have to have their necks rung by comparison.
@ALCAM001
@ALCAM001 3 года назад
The petrols are better, too many problems with the V8 diesel engines here in Australia. Expensive to buy and expensive to fix. DPF issues, turbo and injector issues causing massive long term running costs. Better to pay a bit more at the pump for reliable motoring with no expensive repair bills.

This was an awesome presentation. Nice job! Good drone footage as well! That had to take some work to gather all those models for this video. Bravo! The only comment I am questioning is the one about the engine coming from the LS to the LX but with an iron block. Isn’t there a displacement difference?

I have to say I always thoroughly enjoy your videos Greg! I'm from Australia and work at a Toyota dealership as a senior technician and mentor and I totally agree with what you've said. I've worked on every type of car and the Toyota is the most reliable in my opinion. We hardly see any failures compared to other brands. Last year I bought a brand new 79 series landcruiser V8 turbo diesel (1VD-FTV) Dual cab utility and it's an absolute beast. I've had a 75 series landcruiser before, 2 hiluxes and 2 corollas. All were absolutely faultless. My new cruiser should see me through for a long time to come. Thank you for sharing this great video mate!
