I tell people this all of the time. Mac getting in was a no brainier; what was shocking was how soon he got in. Even me being a Mac fan since 2000, I didn't expect him to make it this soon. Maybe sometime near 2020 was reasonable to me. But again, the guy was virtually umstoppable in his prime. He could do everything on the court and when he really focused, he scored so effortlessly in so many ways you were left in awe. His biggest issue was he had Scoliosis, which I do as well. It pretty much leads to a imbalance in your body causing you to be prone to injuries because certain areas are much weaker. So injuries were pretty much guaranteed. Add to the fact he was never blessed with a legit team. People will argue he had Yao; but when Yao was injured, Mac was healthy and vice versa. All those years on the same team and they didn't even play an entire season on the court together. So that's not a good counter argument. When the Rockets became a good team, Mac career was virtually over with a shit knee. And it didn't help he and Rick Adelman didn't see eye to eye which lead to a trade. The rest is history. So mentioning all of that, we can't overlook the impact he had in his prime and how he never fully reached his peak as a player. That itself is a scary thought.

One of the best moves the Magic made in its history was getting T-Mac. I lived in Orlando through his time there. The things this guy would do every night was crazy. There was a point where he could play Kobe to a standstill. He could score on anybody in a multitude of ways. I just wish that injuries hadn't cut his career off at the knees, because he was one of those players that you just had to watch, no matter what team he was playing for.

That 13 points in 35 seconds, is the most impressive feat in an NBA game ever and it will be hard to top... The most ridiculous part of that is, that Spurs didn't really fail at the end either. They hit their free throws and there were no stupid turn overs or no obvious missed foul calls... It was just TMac scoring 13 on 4 shots in a ridiculously short time... It is perfection.
@davidfebreeze428
@davidfebreeze428 11 месяцев назад
No stupid turnovers?😂 they literally commutes one right before tmacs game winner…
@timometsanoja9666
@timometsanoja9666 11 месяцев назад
@@davidfebreeze428 yes, they do commit a turnover there, but it was not like the Rockets player shoves the Spurs player to the floor to steal the ball. It was a slip up... Unlike a certain Reggie Miller going all Crips and Bloods on the Knicks players to steal the ball and get his 8 points in 6 seconds and the refs not calling anything... Slipups happen... It was an unforced turnover and it happens every game a couple of times for every team. Unfortunate for the Spurs that it happened to be right there and then. But the Spurs hit all their free throws and they didn't fail to make their passes there. One unfortunate slipup and that's game. Duncan also was late on the three point contest and gave up the and-1. But none of this would matter if T-Mac didn't hit the shots. T-Mac who was shooting like 5-18 for the game before these shots... These magical moments do happen from time to time. I remember playing in a game where through three quarters I had shot 0-6 from three... And we were losing. But I didn't stop shooting there and then... Ended up going 6-13 after the overtime win... So that was 6-7 from three the rest of the way. Missed one completely heat check three during overtime. Needless to say things like this do happen and this is why we play the games... And this is why the game is so good! You never know what will happen in a game of basketball... And boy did it feel good to win that game.

@mornwood1011
@mornwood1011 6 лет назад
These people saying TMAC doesn't deserve to be in the HOF are the same people who are either Warriors fans or just started watching basketball in 2014. In his Raptors days TMAC was an athletic freak. Easily comparable to what Giannis is now. Then when he went to the Magic he was just a different player all together. At one point on the Magic he was up there with Kobe and Jordan in terms of having one of the greatest and decorated individual seasons, besides the playoffs. Can't even blame him for that either since he literally always had some of the worst teammates in his career. His best teammate on the Magic was Grant Hill who was injured all of his time on the team. At one point Grant Hill only played 45 games in 4 total seasons with the Magic. Then when he was on the Rockets him and Yao barely ever played together since both started to become injury prone. And not having a good Point Guard or SG or PF or bench is another reason why Rockets were never making long playoff runs. It's very easy to see why Tmac never got an easy run in the playoffs when the NBA was densely packed where every team had at least one superstar. And if you made the playoffs it was competitive and dirty every single second of the game. Unlike in today's league where you have 3 great teams and then the rest are average and the bottom teams are complete trash. Hence why Warriora and Cavs are gonna go to the finals for a 4th time this season. Nobody to come at either team because the league doesn't have as much talent as it should/once had. But that's another discussion.

and if you were a real fan of basketball you would understand that as good as t-mac was,him being in the HOF before c-webb is a crime.dont get me wrong the dude ws great for a small stretch of time due to injuries,but while healthy what did he really accomplish? the teams he lead never got out of the first round,even when yoa was healthy they couldnt make it pass utah.but when he went down in 2009 the rockets beat the blazers and took the lakers to 7 game without him.he quit on orlando and doc rivers,and lets face it he was a below average defender. yes the dude was a great scorer and a solid passer,but what has he really done to deserve being a first ballot HOFer,and no im not saying he shouldnt be in the HOF im just saying on his first go around is a bit of a farce

@ramjb 5 лет назад
Let's not get too excited here. Prime KD was a monster (I say was because that achilles means his prime is gone). Offensively he was less dynamic than TMac but noticeably taller and heftier. He was better on the post, deadlier from long range (3pt averages for KD just show it) and had the same top-flight midrange as Tmac had. I agree Tmac was better in isos and slashes, but other than that, KD is the true offensive complete package. TMac was spectacular for his time, however. Defensively there's no question. Tmac was never a great defender, and KD...man, that strenghts, size and wingspan...
@srijeshpanth789
@srijeshpanth789 5 лет назад
heftier?? no.. tmac was a bull. kd admittedly was able to sustain his dominance far longer. but his two main advantages are his length and his handles. their jump shots are comparable, though kd is more efficient. it truly is a toss up but peak tmac was dusting guys like kobe, bruce bowen, etc...

T-mac will always be my favorite player

Why does McGrady belong in the Hall of Fame? Because for at least six years there was legitimate conversation about if Tracy McGrady was better than Kobe. That if McGrady had Shaq (Kobe had yet to win without Shaq during this time), he would be Kobe Bryant in terms of team accomplishments. I certainly do not think he is better than Kobe but the fact of the matter is that it was a legitimate conversation that could still be romanticized today. He more than deserves it and even though he lacks the team accomplishments, the Hall of Fame is more about individual greatness anyway.

Chris Webber almost made it to the NBA Finals (if not for the rigged refs), and still has not been into the Hall of Fame yet. Compared to T-Mac who has countless first round exits, and still be a FIRST-BALLOT hall of Famer. I just don't get it. Yes he has hall-of-fame talent but it should be transferred into at least a couple of playoff series wins despite garbage teammates. In my objective opinion he does not deserve FIRST BALLOT hall-of-famer at all when there are guys who have accomplished more and has just as much talent still waiting to get in.

Gordon Tseng finals appearances and championships are a TEAM accomplishment. Hall of Fame, scoring champ, MVP are individual and what are the criteria for HOF. Chris Webber has no scoring championships, never an MVP candidate, and always calls timeout at the worst times 😂😂😂
@gordontseng6153
@gordontseng6153 6 лет назад
so you trying to tell me all these individual accomplishments can't even transfer into ONE SINGLE playoff series win, and it doesn't matter at all??
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 6 лет назад
+Gordon Tseng Because Chris Webber didn't have a solid cast around him when he was with the Kings and was able to go deep into the playoffs? And on the eye test Webber's domination is far from few and even got predictable in the twilight of his career as he became strictly a mid range shooting PF. TMAC even the latter years in Houston had flashes of brilliance where he would just take over games and still score with the greatest of ease. As what was already mentioned, TMAC has the individual accomplishments bolstering him for the HOF along with individual dominant performances that you won't see again for another five decades or so. And many in the HOF aren't playoff winners themselves either because they were also stuck in shitty team situations for a long time. But it didn't take away from the eye test that they were absolute ballers and stood above the rest when they were on the court.
@MrZhouYin
@MrZhouYin 6 лет назад
Tod Wilkinson so basically, your argument is that Webber was a better big than T-Mac? Of course he has more blocks and rebounds, that's kinda his job at his position. Historically speaking, big men are supposed to be better at defense.
@t4d0W
@t4d0W 6 лет назад
+Tod Wilkinson "I'm saying Webber was a better PF than McGrady was a SF. I'd rather have a 6'10 255 pound player that can ball than a 6'8 215 player that is a volume shooter." Funny. Give TMAC another capable ball handler/shot creator for a teammate along with a rim protector and he's at least making it to 2nd round. Of course he had to take all those shots. Who the fuck else was making them in Orlando? Drew Gooden or Darrell Armstrong? Whose taking his shots away when Yao was hurt? (and he's guaranteed to be hurt) Rafer Alston, Luis Scola or Shane Battier? None of those scrubs are going to make a difference because TMAC was the only guy who can score and the teams who beaten him who were better then KNEW IT! And for a while prime TMAC was getting comparisons as being one of the most dominant players in that era in the same sentence as Kobe Bryant. Chris Webber wasn't even in that same conversation so you fucking memory is foggy as hell. You gotta be a fucking idiot to think Webber did it all for the Kings. Without Christie/Bibby/Stojakovic, Webber has no guys to kick out too when he's deep in position by the paint and try double him. Without Divac/Miller, Webber has saavy post passers to keep the ball moving. His Kings team was very complete for what it was and a huge reason why they went as deep as they could every year when healthy. Not because Chris Webber put the team on his back. Because there were other guys who can put the team on their backs when Webber wasn't having a good night.

To be honest, he is not qualified to be HOF, say the least he is lucky to be part of it. First reason is that the achievements in his career doesn't give him any chance considered HOF, his prime too short, not consistent. Second reason : he doesn't have significant impact or contribution to basketball, like special case yao ming. All we know is that he was supposed to be as good as kobe, but in reality, he couldn't keep up with what ppl expected. (Do not count injuries, all basketball players need to deal with it). So NO.

VC15 Dunk You clearly know nothing about T-Mac, or basketball for that matter. 7x All-Star, 7x All-NBA, 2x scoring champion in an injury shortened career? 62 point game, multiple 50 point games, multiple 40 point games, and averaged *32.1 PPG* one year??!! Not to mention there were literally kids who wanted to play ball because of TMac.....GTFO! There are current Hall of Famers that don't even have close to those accolades. If he got to play just 1 full season with another Top 20 player in the league they would've won the chip. All of his teams were trash. Not his fault.

@t4d0W
@t4d0W 6 лет назад
Achievements of his career can be argued over but it clearly favors TMAC despite his prime going at around 8 seasons. As of him not having a significant impact or contribution, you have to be fucking deluded, ignorant or have not watched the 2000s decade of basketball. Kobe is the most known dominant wing player in that era since he had the benefit of health and a stacked team early and late in that decade. TMAC if you saw him was as dominant if not more than Kobe and he averaged close to 38.7 minutes in his prime. He was also the only legit shot creator for his team so defenses can lock on him down and he responded usually with crazy offense all on his own. All basketball players have to deal with injuries but you can only deal with the body you were born with. And did you think TMAC wasn't dealing with his own shit with scoliosis as well as not having the best teammates in the teams he played, as well with strong teams he went up against when he was going to the playoffs in Houston? Use BBALLREFERENCE, search the Houston first round playoff matchups in 05, 07 and 08 and tell me if TMAC's Rockets can realistically get over those teams.

For 7 seasons the man was top 3 purest scorer in the game, led to 2x scoring champ. When healthy he was an offensive juggernaut, had mid range, had 3 ball, was athletic, versatile and could pass/defend. The guy has one of the best PER seasons ever, as good as KD is when healthy TMAC was him but better, he is one of the biggest what ifs in NBA history, but he was a hell of a player and I enjoyed watching him play as a kid and is still the most influential player in my bball career

T-Mac in the HOF is an amazing accomplishment and a true testament to how skilled he was. T-Mac is one of my all time favorite players during that era of basketball so naturally my opinion on him being in the HOF is that it is well deserved. That's my outlook on this topic whether or not you agree or disagree is your perspective. T-Mac was an incredibly talented and skilled player on the offensive end of the game and in his prime from 2000-2007 averaged over 26 points a game and nearly 30 in the playoffs during that span as well. One of the youngest players to win back to back scoring titles and was an MVP candidate in 2004. Pretty impressive for a guy that came straight out of high school. I know what some of you will say... his FG percentage wasn't that good, he wasn't a great defender, he never took his teams past the first round of the playoffs, etc. One could argue that he never had a supporting cast while in Orlando and Houston other than an injured Grant Hill and Yao Ming. Sure maybe he should have stayed with Toronto and things might have been better. He himself admitted that he should have stayed in Toronto. Some would argue that he was always injured and didn't take care of his body properly. I feel he never reached his true potential and could have been more successful during his 16 seasons. Unfortunately we will never know what "could have been" but during T-Mac's prime years he was arguably a top 20 player in the league out of 450+ players. Say what you want about T-Mac, you're entitled to your own opinions. Respect the fact that he was able to make a living doing what he loved and provided entertainment and inspiration for people all over the world.
