I wish this video had current draw data from an ESC between a Traxxas battery and say a GensAce.

I done a ton of test with gensace packs they are pretty true to their claims. The company to watch is MaxAmps lipos they make some crazy claims. Every lipo I owned was garbage.

I have done it, same peak current (about 100A) on my 6S Xmaxx, drawn from both a fancy pair of 3S 100C 5000mah graphene thingy magics and the 3S 25C 5000mah Traxxas lipos.

This is a good video! Can you do a video comparing popular lipo batteries (i.e., Traxxas, SMC, PowerHobby, MaxAmps, ZOP, etc.) and the "true" C rating you get when measuring their internal resistance? I'd bet it would get a lot of views and go viral among the RC community. That and damage some egos and pride - lol!

Question. So I bought brand new 3s and 4s lipos and I checked IR and it's super high. Is that because they are brand new or is it because I'm using a squid adapter with a bunch of different ends do I need to directly connect it? Thanks

Traxxas really does take a lot of the confusion out of operating their rcs. For the vast majority of us their system is greatly appreciated. “c” ratings and the never ending pursuit of max performance has ruined many an r/c car/plane. I have often wondered why traxxas batteries offered only the 25c rating and now I know. I have only used traxxas batteries in my traxxas r/c cars and have never had a battery or electronic failure.
@ronaldonogueira74
@ronaldonogueira74 2 года назад
Hello Ryan, I wonder if it is not simply because the majority of LiPo batteries on the market deliver only 25C max real discharge rate according to Joe's extensive tests (see rcgroups thread). Very few top quality packs deliver 40-50C real discharge rates. In the past I used to search for the highest C rating available but now I favor capacity since this is a measurable parameter. In other words, I'd prefer to order a 6S 6000mAh 45-50C pack instead of a 6S 5000mAh 70C of similar weight since I know both packs will probably deliver 25C max (real). I also dimension my setups to draw no more than 25C which means less stress and longer life to the packs.

If you want to try better lipos that are still much cheaper than traxxas packs, look up hobbyking turnigy lipos. I've been using turnigy packs for almost 15 years and they are very good for the price. Their "graphene" and "nano-tech" batteries are very potent and my current favorite packs for hard use. The Turnigy 75c "panther graphene" line of lipos are by far the best lipos I've ever used and they cost slightly more than half as much as the traxxas packs. The panther packs are very potent, barely get warm and can be charged at 10c, if you have enough charger. They don't break a sweat in my x-maxx doing back to back runs, charging at 4c.

The C rating on rc batteries is similar to the UTQG rating on auto tires in North America.. tire manufacturers are required to supply a A.B.C type rating for Treadwear, temp & traction but there is no standard so they compare it against the other tires they make which can be misleading just like rc batteries

As long as the motor do not draw more amp, than the battery can deliver, it will last a long time, and not swell. So, in other words, running a xmax on 2a 25c battery will ruin it in no time, compared to a 7 to 8a 25c battery, that delivers sufficient amp to the motor. But lets be clear. It is the motor that draws amps out of the battery, not the battery pushing it out.

I like the simplicity of using traxxas ID batteries with my traxxas ID charger but after puffing a 3s 4000 after the 2nd run on my spartan I'm not convinced
@scarletboa
@scarletboa Год назад
Honestly, your money goes A LOT farther with other brands of battery. Hobbyking has been one of my battery go-to sites for almost 15 years. Their c-ratings are only slightly inflated and the batteries and chargers are very good for the price. An Idst 500w, 20 amp 8s capable charger only costs $60. I have 2 of them and they are awesome and easy to use. The higher-end batteries from hobbyking can be charged at 5c and are still much cheaper than the traxxas packs. They don't get as hot during hard runs and aren't as prone to puffing. Their graphene and "nano-tech" batteries are the best RC lipos I've ever used. Traxxas packs are actually decent, but overpriced. Your Spartan draws a lot of amps and needs more potent or larger packs to handle it. My traxxas maxx and x-maxx are VERY hard on batteries when I'm driving in thick grass with tall gearing and bigger motor/esc in 100f+ ambient temps. Traxxas 5000mah packs wouldn't survive one hard run in those conditions. I've already ruined too many lipos in those 2 trucks. The nano-tech packs still get hot and can swell slightly in those conditions, but recover well, once they cool down. The 75c Turnigy panther graphene batteries only get warm in that worst-case scenario. The "panther" packs are by far the most potent lipos I have come across. If traxxas packs are true 25c packs, the panther packs are true 60-75c packs. There's a very substantial difference between the 2 in performance, voltage drop and temps.

@scarletboa
@scarletboa Год назад
@@Critter0817 I've had both my ISDT chargers for 18 months and have done over a hundred cycles on each. They are accurate within .02v, consistently. I'm a licensed electrician and am a little paranoid about battery balance issues. I verify accuracy on all my chargers periodically with a calibrated multimeter. I've had chargers in the past that don't balance or charge well, but my ISDT chargers have been drama-free. I even use them to charge vehicle batteries and a 100ah 4s lifepo4 pack that I use to recharge RC packs in the field. They have no problem pushing 20 amps into a 4s lifepo4 pack for 4+ hours. Are they known for that? I know a few other people with the same chargers. None of then have had issues, either.

I always wonder about the videos on YT and this stupid C-Ratings... and noone is testing them with an electronic load! If you ever really tested a battery with an electronic load or familiarize yourself with the basics of electrical engineering you understand how stupid this ratings are First of all understand the differences between CDC (continious discharge current) and "peak" DC (there is not standard for this. In an good whitepaper it is defined at least)
@RCexplained
@RCexplained Год назад
Yes, people are testing the batteries with a load. But here's the thing, you don't need to: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0tk3j9NL9lM.html There's also many other videos on this channel about the c rating.
@skatetoexplorevideos2477
@skatetoexplorevideos2477 Год назад
No. This is all wrong! This only benefits Traxxas, not the consumers. You want to get a battery with a higher C rating for safety and prolonged battery life. The best battery to get is Gens Ace with a 60C rating. These batteries truly are rated for 60C. This way, the batteries don't "puff" up like Traxxas batteries, or other cheap batteries, forcing you to buy more crap batteries that are over-priced. Edit: it's perfectly fine to use other brand batteries with higher C ratings such as 100C. Just make sure it's from a reputable brand that isn't lying about their C ratings.

Alright. So this is just not true. Never. NEVER. Buy a traxxas lipo. The C Rating is too low. C rating is how much performance a battery can do, SAFELY. With traxxas, it's not that simple. Just about every one of their vxl setups needs a MUCH higher C rating, or the battery gets hot and puffs up. I got an xMaxx in 2016, had lipos in it, lasted 10 runs. They are dog water. There are many other brands that give you a much better battery for half the cost. But if you're rocking any traxxas VXL setup, swap that out for a hobbywing esc as well. Traxxas tried their best to make the batteries last a very short time
