Artists blow my mind. True Blood is my favorite series of all time for so many reasons and it makes me sad to think Alan Ball would ever have a hiccup of self appreciation for the genius he is.

It was so good and touching I watched it twice in a row. So moving and raw. I’m a huge fan of Alan Ball. American Beauty and Six Feet Under are phenomenal and this just became a new favorite!

I always find it interesting that nowadays the common line is things were so different for gays "back then." Actually they're not much. Films like the original Boys in the Band get panned by moderns as being "stereotypical" and therefore, offensive. Uncle Frank is more like Brokeback Mountain in that both are really anti-gay in their moral. Ennis and Jack were not happy and neither are Frank and Wally and it has little to do with society but rather their own internal malfunction. Wally in particular is pathetic. He is the desperate one, not Frank. It's also notable how women are the kindling for gay acceptance- mothers, sisters, etc. What father dreams of catching his strapping blond firstborn son and name sake flat on his back with his legs in the air with another boy on top?!!!!! And it is true what the father told Frank Jr about hell and wrath of God. And Junior knows it too. Why was Wally lying around half naked in the motel room reading the Bible anyway? It seems like every new movie is gay these days anyway but at least this one, if viewed objectively, recommends against homosexuality. In other words, it's a choice. Pursue at one's own risk but don't say you weren't warned.
