We have free health care too (NHS) but to make an appointment we'll have to wait 7-8 months. Only 10 minutes per patient is allowed. If I have cancer, diabetes and heart problems. I'll have to choose one and then for the other two I'll have to get another appointment. Which will take another 7-8 months. On paper it's the best healthcare system but in real life it doesn't work. Thanks for the numbers breakdown. I'm planning to come to the states. I guess flipping burgers there is far more rewarding than getting a desk job here.

Go to San Diego and you can’t move for the people sleeping in tents. The uk atleast you have social care the issue in the uk is far to many people using it and not working. When 55% of the country is taking out far more than they pay in you have an issue.

While it maybe true that the gross salary in the USA is higher but once you factored in all of your expenses i wonder how much is left with that money given the fact that the cost of living in a state like california or new york is also going to be way higher than those of in london. Plus some things like education,health care and other services are almost free in the UK, people may still have to shell out some money but not that much compared to when trying to avail the same services or product in the USA which will surely costsomeone a lot of fortune.

@@terryj50 San Diego is no the entirety of the US and several cities in California have an exceptionally bad rent/home affordability problem (given that Californians make some of the highest wages on the planet). This is not a problem that exists in the rest of the country. 100K is a lot of money in most other parts of the country. 100K is a salary well within the reach of most American professionals like nurses, engineers, IT workers and managers but very difficult for British professionals to achieve.

Disagree with point 5. There is social security in the US and you US social security payments after 65 can be substantially higher than UK state pensions based on a how much payroll taxes he or she has paid through their working life. There is also unemployment benefits in the US funded by payroll taxes.

Unemployment benefits don't last forever in the US as it's temporary, whilst in the UK you can live on it forever. You can get free housing and free dental care if you're unemployed in the UK as well.
@VindulaP
@VindulaP Год назад
@@glorytothepeoplesrepublic1027There are also programs like rental assistance and public housing to unemployed in the US that are implemented by state and local government. Plus, even though unemployment benefits in the US eventually run out, the payments for most middle class people are substantially bigger in the US than UK. This means your average middle class person can continue to pay their bill for at least 26 weeks until they find a job. In the UK, the unemployment benefits are not sufficient for the middle class to maintain their lifestyle. The dole goes on forever in the UK but is only sufficient for bare sustenance.

What do you mean you don't pay for health insurance? Of course you do. It's called National Insurance and that's why they take 40% of your check. We definitely have pensions and 401k retirement plans in the United States. We also have social security benefits for elderly and weekly unemployment benefits for those without work. New York is also one of the worst states to live in the United States. There are other states with high salaries, lower rent cost, and way less taxes. The UK seems like an awful place to work as the wages seem so low, with high taxes, high rent cost, high price of energy, gasoline, and 20% VAT on consumer goods. There doesn't seem to be any disposable income after you pay all your bills. I don't get the hype. I visited my company's London office for 2 weeks in 2017 and saw how my co-workers with the equivalent job lived and it was eye opening. 30+ year old men still sharing living space in drab flats with small dated appliances. No air conditioning was a deal breaker. Small, uncomfortable, compact cars and just a very uncomfortable life. I left being very grateful to be American. UK is a great place to visit or live if you have already made money somewhere else, but it seems to live the life of an average American you have to be exceptional in the UK.

@@Lando-kx6so The UK doesn't have close to a lower cost of living. Everything costs more there. Gasoline is more than twice the price. All consumer goods are more expensive because of 20 % VAT. The United Kingdom is poor compared to the United States. The GDP per Capita is less than Alabama. If the UK were a state it would be a bottom 5 state below Alabama and barely above Mississippi. The UK is closer to countries like Poland than the United States. It's really unfair to compare them. Outside of London and the South East of the country there isn't much going on economically there. The rest of the country is pretty destitute.

@@tabernathy0428 false. Overall cost of living is much less especially outside of London. Food cost 2x as much in the states & healthcare is wayyyy more expensive. Gdp per capita is a very poor indicator on how well off a country is as well. Barley above missippi? The gdp per capita of the country is about us$55,862 (purchasing power parity) but still not a good indicator on how well of a country is. Destitute? Are you mad? Gas costs more true but you drive way less in the UK than the US & you get a lot more benefits. I personally don't know anybody who left the US for the UK & regretted it.

I noticed you mention the difference in the Tax for both countries. In the UK the average Tax paid is 26% whereas in America, when you combine Federal, State, Local and health insurance to get the same benefits. Americans pay between 42%-47% Tax. So in the UK you get to keep more of your money. Not to mention out-of-pocket expenses for healthcare, HOA payments which you don't have in the UK.

@@educatednumpty71 only 25% total factoring in every single thing while in UK as my brother is a cardiologist there , he gives around 40-43% taxes I am very very well versed in this regards but to overall simplify it for you , in the US you make 3 times more than the UK considering the US doctor is just an internist while the UK doctor is a specialist. In the UK all specialists make more or less the same amount and private practice isn’t very fruitful as it is in the US . Overall in the US as a cardiologist you’ll be making 4-6 times more than your fellow UK consultant . And this is considering absolutely equal amount of work hours . This gap can decrease if you maybe go towards the fam med route where in the US you’ll still make 3 times more your UK counterpart while this May rise if we think about plastic / neurosurgery while the US doctor easily makes 7-8 times more Even in the US you can decide to go to rural areas to make more money . Like a senior of mine is a IR working there making near 900k-1m , but he works a lot , nearly 6 days a week and 12 hours a day . But all I’m saying is that the option is available while in the NHS no such thing is available to doctors There is a reason why UK doctors are running away from NHS because let’s be real , it’s not good . People from the UK love to talk about expenses while in reality US is cheaper than the UK . Even small things like groceries in the US is cheaper . I don’t understand why people fool themselves to believe that UK is a better option than US, that’s just delusional. The reality is MONEY wise , US is a much better option than UK , miles better . Even if you’re a doctor or not . And yes this applies to for the same no.of hours worked. US compensates it’s doctors immensely, while the NHS doesn’t give 2 shits. Now if people wanna talk about other stuff like residency is tougher in US and longer hours then I absolutely agree . Resident life in UK is much much better than US . Also in the US , there’s a high chance you’ll have to give step3 too during residency as well. But overall in the end , MONEY wise US is a much much better option . People going to UK might have other reasons , but saying false things like “add up everything US is expensive etc” is just BS from people who have never worked in the US in the first place. Sure go to UK for the culture , the history , family , etc etc . Both are great options for IMGs . Even after completing residency in UK people can take US route it’s definitely a route available to direct come as a consultant after some exams . But don’t give me the fake BS that money wise UK is better . Literally 100s of protests there , 100s of ppl complaining , 1000s can’t even cope up with the huge inflation rates PLUS the stupid royals you have to pay for .

@@shanegremory900 So you would know how many people face financial hardship each year due to medical bills in the US, yet we don't have that problem in the UK. Despite earning a 1/3 of what you earn in America. In fact, it would be fair to say that no matter how much a person earns in the US, one long-term medical illness would ruin you. I guess this is why 1/3 of Gofundme is now for medical expenses in America. As your brother is a Cardiologist here. Ask him how much Joe Average would have to pay for all the EKGs, MRIs, and blood tests and then having a heart transplant and subsequent follow-up treatments. Then compare that to the cost in America. Then tell me how much better off you are.
@shanegremory900
@shanegremory900 Год назад
@@educatednumpty71 1) it’s not joe average , it’s average joe 2) absolutely wrong . The average person here has a much better life than a Brit . All the tests you’re saying is already covered in the 25% which I mentioned earlier , not a single penny will be charged . Yes elective procedures like Botox etc will obviously cost you but that’s what happens in the UK as well . The real issue is IMGs prefer uk over US as uk is much easier system to enter and get a green card . The reality is a lot of jobs offer good medical insurances unlike the dream US system you’re imagining. And before you say any % again , those insurances are already covered in the 25% . An average joe is better off paying that and earning a lot more than an average Brit who pays the royal family to wave a hand for him and get absolutely pathetic pay . Uk is by far one of the worst places to live if talking in terms of an average person or an on job person . If you’re a businessman there then it’s different The whole world knows what’s going on with the pound and how barely people are surviving in uk especially with the everyday costs rising . Inflation hit UK the worst . Doctors nurses and the pathetic NHS system forces people to move to Australia , Canada , US or even the Arab countries 🤣 The fact is people who have the skill set to leave the UK , ALWAYS leave unless they have responsibilities or ties they can’t move away from . NOT EVEN a single person I know who came here from UK said that UK was better . I’ll even quote a good friend of mine who’s an “average joe” here , “living in UK was barely surviving one paycheck to the next , in the US I finally see I can be treated with respect and earn money along with it according to my worth” . Similarly another friend of mine who’s a doctor here said “ the best NHS did for me was to make me overwork myself with indirectly forced locums / calls, work overtime during covid times and at the end just give me a certificate of congratulations + a clapping 👏🏻 ceremony . I wish I was strong enough to come to US earlier” As for my brother’s opinion here ya go I’ll quote him too “NHS is absolutely shit , they don’t give 2 f*cks about you or your health , leave immediately” And yes he’s the reason why literally none of my siblings settled in UK . Even my cousin gave it a shot he’s a biomedical engineer, and after 2 years he said the same . He told us “it’s one of the worst places to live unless you own a business or commit tax fraud or be a politician” Whatever you tell yourself to make yourself feel good about UK has already been disproven by many people . Not a single person moves from US to UK unless they have a compulsion or personal reasons
