I'm in the very beginning stages of starting out in my journey. In that I have bought a van, waiting for it to be converted. I'm currently sorting thru all my worldly possessions into stuff to keep, stuff to donate, stuff to sell and stuff to bin. I've just watched this and I smiled because it was so spot on. I'm choosing a life of freedom with less stress, less debt. More time, greater connection with nature and people and to be free to do things on my own terms and becoming the person I have wanted to be on my own terms and not be and do what everyone expects. Vanlife is a tool to achieving that but it's not specifically that, that will make me happy, that bit comes from sweet little ole me. This lifestyle is out of the box I know it will have its challenges but I love a challenge. I can't wait ☺️🙌😊
@@TheNomadicVeteran Hey! Thankyou for you for your message. I have got the van and tried to get someone to convert it and have struggled with that as people want so much money which is way over budget. So I have enlisted some help from family to help build it myself. I will get some expert help with the gas, electrics, windows and solar panels. Then do the rest myself. I hope I can produce a half decent home for myself and my cavalier called Foxy ( hense my nickname). who' just turned 11. I'm not sure how long that will take but I hope to be in it after Xmas. I'm getting itchy feet. Anyway I do enjoy your content and look forward to your next vlog Take care xx
Your videos get better and better and you have a real talent for presenting on camera! I 100% agree people need to give up chasing the material stuff and live more simply, hopefully finding what really matters. I have chosen to live dedicating my life to help the most innocent and vulnerable: animals. Stay safe friend
I rented a van to try out the lifestyle and the very first thing I knew for sure was that it's a solo adventure. I could not imagine TWO people sharing that small space.....................with two dogs. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and feelings. May your adventures continue by whatever means.
Van life is a way of life Russ . We've had forty ears of caravans , we lived in one for five years , only I'll health (wife , not me ) put us back in a house , and now at the age of 75 I'm nearing the end of my van build and ready to go again .
Sound advice and a grounded perspective that anyone contemplating vanlife should take onboard before embarking on this lifestyle. Keep up the good work!
Great heartfelt video...I know nothing about van life nor do I plan on knowing anything about it other than what you show me, but I do love the freedom of selling and putting all of your 'stuff' in storage and setting out on a nomadic journey of freedom and for the first time in my life I have given it all up to pursue a dream and a simplified life! Nothing is easy, but I am really enjoying living with a car full of clothes and toilettries...Renting and living with the anticipation that I can pick up and move when I want!! Sounds like you are liking the new digs and you might rethink your van life...Pure speculation, but you can always do it as much or as little as you want! Good luck and best wishes to you, Gibbo and the boys!!!
Totally spot on. Where does time go when it is chore day? How many days is it going to rain for??? The thing I like about vanlife is the time it gives you, to do things at a slower pace. Maybe one day I will get the house emptied of the years of stuff and not just go for long trips but for a full time trip. Hope you are still enjoying the constant supply of hot running water in your apartment. You will be truly nesh when you return to vanlife full time :-D
Great and honest reflection of true vanlife buddy 👍 Problems do not just disappear...sometimes they are amplified due to the reasons you mention. It is a great way of life and getting off the treadmill of what we are 'expected' to do as the 'norm' is a good thing also. Gives a different perspective of life and one which some might feel is a better way of life. Anyways, thanks for yet another great video 👍
Timing is a big thing - we feel we can delay it to next year or wait till the right moment but reality is there is no perfect timing! A great question I read once is if you could live to 800 years old as opposed to 80, would you achieve 10x more in your lifetime? or knowing that you got hundreds of years ahead of you, would you have more lazy days and spread out a typical 80 year life over your 800 years
Its very easy to get carried away with the perfect image of #vanlife on insta, thats a great point you have made, it has so many up sides, but as with everything in life, it also has downsides. could be a great idea for a video though, how you and gibbo personally overcome and cope with the downsides of vanlife. great vid as always.
Finally someone who says it how it is, those eamen and bec type vids are torturous to watch and lies. Van life is hard if you don’t have a ton of money set aside, just keeping the van on the road can cost lots of ££££££. Thanks for sharing this.
@@lindalawrie148 everyone thought Lee was happy until she killed herself, they are fake in my opinion and responsible for many people taking up vanlife that end up ruining there lives and relationships because it was nothing like eamon and bec portrayed. Not just them, unfair to single them out, there are many you tubers that don’t show the dark side of vanlife, I know solo females that’s been raped, guys that’s been beating up, constant knocks on the door, parking tickets, people damaging you van, fuel prices, finding water, finding park ups, mechanical failures, bad weather, making money, van life is not cheap, you need an income. Loneliness, depression etc etc I could go on but you get my point.
Ya know I can honestly say iv ever been stressed or even a headache so far in my life, eve I a very dark part of my life I was still smiling, so when I went into Van life itv was no different, literally nothing gets to me about any part of van life, 2 months driving a truck sorts out the financial stuff with some to spare, iv parked I a main road lay-by, a street, an industrial estate, a French aire and even on the Isle of Harris one Christmas Day and iv been just as happy where ever it may be, now im not a heat lover so I dont go to hot places in the summer, I chase a temp of 60deg, for me the colder the better, Scotland in the winter is great and so is the south ion France with a perfect temp for me...thats just me and im sure most are very different, no one pushed me into this life and I gave up a a great house and a excellent job, too many ppl worry about money and I very soon found out you dont need nowhere as much as you think...Im very happy and very content with myself, van life and life in general
It’s also great freedom not in the rat race (shame about the shengin zone shannanigans) still we can’t wait to get to Turkey now we’ve had your input , thanks Caroline & Rus 🥰
In my view van life is not less stressful, just different stress if you know what I mean. And I don't mean that in a negative way, just things take a bit more planning.
@@TheNomadicVeteran I live with ptsd and literally my whole life collapsed and I saw no option but to live in a motorhome. I was getting by other than keep being moved on by the police even though I was sensible about park ups. And always found myself worrying about where to get water etc. Then at the start of the first lockdown my camper was attacked by a group of lads from a works van, one of the used a length of scaffold pole. That just wrecked me and with the help of my doctor I am now in a supported housing flat. I really admire all of you who are able to live in vans etc and still follow a few channels, but I seriously don't think I would cope with the van life stresses and isolation anymore. Shame as I wanted to do and see so much. Never mind at least I get to live it thanks to people like you mate.
Everything is better then working 9 to 5 and wasting your hard earned money on some toys that you never find time to use. Memories from outdoor life are the finest memories you can have. Not a fancy room at a SPA and the 8 course dinner with 2 bottles of wine that took you one week of hard work to afford.
@@TheNomadicVeteran ok I admit that having loads of money would solve that problem, but as I have limited resources I have to compare what a SPA will cost and how much I have to work to make that amount. There is also a health aspect here, most restaurants don’t use the best ingredients, to much processed food, full of pesticides at restaurants these days. One has to consider if it’s worthwhile paying a lot to get a very low nutritional value and the harm that this very tasty and beautiful food gives once body.
