I'd be interested in seeing what would happen if you put an electric motor in one of these. They take up a lot less space so you could pack in a lot of power without having to make a cutout for the engine, thus preserving the aerodynamics of the vehicle. You could also design the battery pack to run along the bottom of the tank thus providing a low center of gravity and freeing up space for the driver's legs so they can sit in a reclined position and keep their upper body out of the airstream.

Take your idea and make it like a torpedo sorta like a Japanese mini sub where you lay down in it with a glass front. The caveat is that even a minor crash would be lethal. Not for the faint of heart but it would be fast, like flying across the flats at 300+ mph.

Actually sounds like a good idea. They're aerodynamic light and strong. It'd be fun to put a quad rotor with a massive turbo on it and see how fast it can go. Or maybe put a huge front wing rear wing and rear diffuser on it and see how fast it can corner. BTW isn't there a hotwheels car called lakester as well?

Me and a few buddy's when I was in the army made a boat out of a f16 drop tank. it was very cool. it was for a recycled regatta race. we gave it to a summer camp for use on there lake.

Are the tanks aluminum, and have people converted belly tanks into electric racers too? Modern electric motors and batteries could likely break existing speed records of gas powered versions, and it would be an interesting combination of classic design and new tech.

Man this video is inspiring, Almost make's me want to go out and get 1, My smarts are just wondering how fast and how aerodynamic they would be. Mind you if a twin turbo LS was put in 1 making around 800 hp, They look light, Not for 2 people as it would be cramped. It's looks almost like a smaller version of a high end sports car like a McLaren F1. Just sleak arrow dynamic for wind light and something that will allow air to flow smoothly around the body at extreme high speeds. So if at a drag track you would think it would just shoot down the track like an arrow, Might need some weight to weigh it down yet you would think that do to the sleak design it would make records as it would not fight the air. Rather the air would flow around it.

That would be sexy but that is a standard ole 392 (I think) hemi. There was only one prototype of the DOHC ever made to try to compete with the SOHC 427 Ford in NASCAR but it was never used in any vehicle.
