*Correction* I was wrong with the FOV Slider topic, it seems that I misunderstood the fact that Ultra wide monitors used to be a Pay-to-win thing because having 120 FOV on a ultra wide monitor used to be basically a 180 FOV during the MW19-VG era; either way I still stand with the fact that players were getting their cameras "broken" and that probably that's one of the reasons why the movement was changed (Thank You for the over 30 comments about me being wrong about the FOV) -Yes, I'm aware of the leaks (I already made a video about if you want to check it out) about that I want to day that I did this video before any leaks got out, and second that IW are still in early development of their game and people don't mention that the development of the next IW game is on a standstill due to problems inside the studio (again, check out my video) so anything can change from here to 2026.

I hate Warzone because of the unholy mix of Cocaine, Red Bull and ADHD that players are on. Warzone is only fun for tryhards or pros, not for causals like me. DMZ was perfect for its slower pace and social aspect. I made a dozen online friends during the DMZ lifecycle.

Agreed 100%. I hop on MW3 like twice a week now thanks to Helldivers 2 and NCAA 25. Every time I get on MW3, I just rage because of all the people you just listed. DMZ was slower paced, had goals and objective and risk (losing your weapons, keycards, etc). It was an awesome mode that my boys and I played the hell out of. Oh, and the anxiety of dealing with real players was so awesome. I wish they'd bring it back but that's wishful thinking.

DMZ was my favorite mode since MWII launched day 1. After 200+ successful exfils I started to understand the ebb and flow of the matches, believe it or not you could at one point play however you wanted. After losing a match and having to get back all my gear again I would love to just go in full sniper recon, lot of crawling, masking, sometimes not even firing a single shot unless necessary. This did not feel like Call of Duty, it felt different in the best way possible. Up until the last time I played DMZ which was about over half a year ago, I would notice a pattern of logging on, first match would spawn in death squad bots on a buggy to instantly wipe me out. I recorded clips of this because it would seem to be consistent every time I played my first match of the day in DMZ. One of the core tenants I think players abandoned DMZ was the lack of incentive. Sure you can extract with some good loot but once your locker is already full, what's the point? Not to mention the bundle packs that give you an advantage over other players like spawning in with a revive or UAV all the time. Just like with Guitar Hero, Activision is going to burnout Call of Duty with these drip feed content drops and yearly releases. All designed to squeeze as much money out of the player in exchange for them to have the most fun experience. Fun is locked behind a paywall.

While people say it was casual and a warzone alternative I digress, the missions made this mode so intense, especially when going into the bunkers and building 21. Collecting the crates was also nightmarish.

I hated how quickly the bots would just turn into hit scanning enemies. Like we already have to deal with other players, what's the point of making the bots so impossible to fight ? Plus the longer you fought the less ammo and armor they dropped intentionally. It really sucked the fun out of the mode for me.
@ponyboyofficial
@ponyboyofficial 24 дня назад
@@danialyousaf6456 exactly! Like there really is no aggressive bot play style curve per match its either Legendary difficulty and start over and over and over. To me it seemed like the only people who actually got the most out of DMZ was COD content streamers/content creators. Cuz they can afford to try out every battlepass blackcell bundle and take advantage of the patent that rewards players who spend money. That was the main goal in the patent documents. It took the concept of Whaling that was developed for mobile games in the early 2010's and ran with it.

@@ponyboyofficial that sucks, especially since it could've been a great alternative to tarkov. But Activision had to screw up any chance of making a fun game mode. First ruined regular 6v6 by making it pay2win and making the ttk impossibly low then ruined warzone by shoving every gun into it.

i think the problem was that IW thought players wanted a tactical shooter instead of a cod game so they invested wayyyy too much into it, and when it didn't yield favourable results (especially with all the changes they made to WZ2.0 due to DMZ having incredibly negative reactions) they just kinda pushed whatever little focus they had into just finishing up whatever they were already cooking instead of keeping the mode going. also infinity ward tried to do a stupid large amount of irrelevant things on top of the such as spec ops missions and raids (raids being a cool concept but ultimately could've been like the cold war post-season cinematics). at the end of the day infinity ward is the problem. was obvious back in mw19 and made worse in mwii

DMZ suffers from an issue alot of recent CoDs have had and that's: The devs putting their eggs in too many baskets. It's not a coincidence that when CoD keeps Mp modes outside of stuff on 6v6 maps to a minimum that 6v6 has better support. MWIII shows that. People can say and wish that we get DMZ 2, more Ground War and more Raids but it's obvious CoD needs to focus and only focus on the big 4. -Warzone. -Campaign. -6v6 Multiplayer. (Gunfight can stay since that can be on small 6v6 maps instead) -Round Based Zombies. (or a different type of Zombies mode if it's not made by Treyarch, Treyarch needs to solely focus on Round Based) No Ground War mode that drains resources from 6v6/gives Activision an excuse to make less 6v6 maps. No DMZ mode that messes with Warzone. The only thing that could return is MWZ because a PvE mode with light extraction mechanics works way better in CoD than a PvPvE one and Spec-Ops has been so awful in both MW2019 and MWII that I'd rather want Infinity Ward to do a Zombies mode that takes the best parts from DMZ and MWZ.

Side modes wise IW should’ve kept the wave mode and the Mw2019 spec ops BUT with huge changes. I love the concept of loadouts and coop missions with other players while still leveling guns and the battle pass but Mw2019s spec ops missions were very poorly designed and extremely unbalanced to an obnoxious degree… I shouldn’t have to pair with pros or have a full squad of friends to do a CoD mission. Mwz is technically not good but I enjoyed playing it far more than spec ops

The charm of a good extraction shooter is a slow, deliberate pace and deep shooting mechanics to create tension and require mastery of guns ala Tarkhov or Hunt Showdown. COD’s slip N slide, cracked out hyper fast movement, low-skill super accurate weapons and shallow health mechanics and armor system-of course there wasn’t enough depth to keep a playerbase like Tarkhov does. I wish Infinity ward was able to go all-in on their more grounded vision for COD. Chilling out the movement, focusing more on tactical, slow gameplay for EDZ

Extraction shooters can't be monetised with pay 2 win bundles. The development team ruined it themselves with 15 minute cool down weapons and free UAV's. Had they just given us missions to do that made it so you could get your cool down at 15 minutes or get 10 exfils for a free UAV it would have been fine. I still play it every night with my friends and I'll keep playing for as long as the servers are up. The non DMZ fan doesn't think there's enough of a player count but honestly I could count on 1 hand the amount of times I've met the same player twice so I still there's a solid player base.

15:41 Absolutely yes, DMZ has always had a supportive community even after the updates stopped. Infinity Ward struck gold with DMZ in the sense that they were able to simplify the realistic/extraction shooter genre while still making it enjoyable. If they went on with the 2 year life cycle, who knows? Maybe it would've made extraction shooters popular for a little longer and set a new style of arcade extraction shooters of some sort but that's just my opinion. I have a different theory about the slow movement. If you look at the campaign, gunsmith and early gameplay it was meant to be a slow game. They even tried nerfing the no stock and other such attachments to slow people down. They only later accepted the movmenrt and played into it with things like the cold war gunsmith. There is also the skill gap. Having to fight oponents who laser you out of the sky, one shot you with flinchless sniper rifles and soge every shot when you fight them close range probably turned off new players (at least in the eyes of activision). I remember them saying that they removed movement for accessability. In the end it seems like all of these factors combined to guarantee a slower cod: the devs wanted to realise their vision of a slow cod with a more interesting gunsmith while the company itself was pushing in the same direction as they wanted to pander to new players and push the extraction mode.

Finally a good video about what happened with DMZ. I see way too many people act like it was a flawless mode so I appreciate when someone who enjoys it, is actually able to criticize it. Also one thing I’ll add when referring to MWZ’s abandonment is that the mode was developed by Treyarch and High Moon. However as of season 3 ,Treyarch left the project. What little is being released now is mostly stuff that Treyarch began making but is just being finished by High Moon and some of SHG. Sucks to see it abandoned but I can’t imagine SHG would want to dump a ton of resources into a mode that they didn’t make (and probably didn’t want) so I personally get it. Ik this video is mostly about DMZ but I figured I’d mention that since it was brought up.

Makes sense. DMZ is a like a guest star on a popular show that they hope will gain footing with all the eyes on the popular show. Most times if they Don’t hit it, they abandon it or try more times to see if the guest star grows on the audience or if not take a chance do or die. However the guest star also changed the popular show and thus the popular show was taken down with it because as you speculate they were tied to the same eco-system too closely. Most times you want the original popular thing to stay the same popular thing, but Infinity Ward believed in it so much or were desperate to not have all their work go down because Extraction shooters waned that they tied it to the popular shows(Multiplayer and warzone) like an anchor and it took them of all down. If separated the fear is the guest star(DMZ) would be left in desolation, so roll the dice to favor the guest star who wasn’t liked as much because it changed things fundamentally like when Star Wars changed Luke to bolster Rey to be his replacement which took down Star Wars.

DMZ was the answer to an ageing player base that was looking for a laid-back, less sweaty game mode. I never spent more on a Call of Duty game (which I have played from conception) and felt conned and betrayed when they announced that they were stopping DMZ updates. I had already preordered MW3 and had bought so many bundles because we were told they would transfer to MW3. Wrongly assuming DMZ was going to continue. I haven't spent a penny on MW3 since and won't in the future. modern multiplayer fps games are too hardcore to have fun for most players, DMZ was different, casual players had fun... is it ever coming back? no.. reason is: hardcore gaming brings more money cos it convinces players that they would be better in game if they buy this or that, and the only way they would even think of bringing DMZ back is if they find a way to sell you something over and over again during the lifetime of the game.. and they tried to do so by selling you shorter weapon cooldowns and better equipment at the same time they destroyed the game, and, realizied that they couldnt not return it as it was and its much easier to abandon this mode..

The MWIII Zombies mode is a complete joke compared to DMZ especially at it is literally just the DMZ Halloween event with pvp turned off. I think the main reason they discontinued support for DMZ is that they couldn’t milk the players for money like they do with Warzone, you can see they tried to with the pay to win DMZ bundles that gave you a free UAV at the beginning of every game but ultimately failed. Hopefully Delta Force: Hawk Ops will fill the DMZ void when it releases.

I loved DMZ when it came out it’s all I played literally spent every night on it, but the whole constant pvp with teams griefing, camping bodies, 6 man map wiping squads just ruined it for me I enjoyed the story missions and grinding the challenges and upgrades was fun for me, but like I said the constant pvp just ruined it for me

I plated this mode for months straight. The Serpentine Run is single handedly one of the most satisfying feelings I ever got unlocking a camo (it's my default camo across all weapons and the only one that has an obsidian texture if you look closely). Met a lot of dope people in this mode, met some of the absolute worst humanity had to offer, had some of the most infuriating rage to ever come over me trying to get obhectives and story bits done just to unlock passive upgrades. The one thing that always threw me in this mode was if you pull a finisher it would stop on the frame where u get the kill and it made them look super awkward, I ever discovered a glitch that let you keep 10 perks across all characters no matter the exfil streak. Point being, this mode meant a lot to me and I'm.always reminded of the pain and grind with my serp camo

Sadly i think they killed it off because it lacked depth and it bascially competed with warzone when it should have been touted as something separate with more separate development. They were just a little too closely tied together.

I liked dmz because you had impactful firefights with other players, and had the choice to be merciful or evil. The comms were hilarious. And it was a less comlpex extraction shooter without exstensive wound mechanics. Interesting ai behavior (specifically with konni being friendlys) and the shenanigans that come from using the skin that they use for being disguised. Had alot of fun going in with nothing and coming out with another players full kit. Even if it wasnt much.

DMZ was fun. I had a good time just vibing and completing challenges. I had hoped it would be a fun side mode to replace spec ops going forward. The only thing that annoyed me was Raids which told a story i couldn't play because you had to squad up. With DMZ doing stuff like Building 21 was cool but a really tough challenge.

DMZ was going to be Warzone. BR was being replaced by an extraction game. WZ1 success forced them to make DMZ as a secondary option. This is why so many of DMZ mechanics and PVE elements were present in WZ.

I believe Warzone 2 and Multiplayer aggressive SBMM actually killed the game, not DMZ. After the first couple months, I hated the Warzone changes (away from MW2019) so much I stopped playing that mode entirely. My old BR gang that played with me multiple times a week in MW2019 quit sooner than I did. As for the multiplayer, it was frustrating to play whether I just wanted to chill out and have fun or if I wanted to get competitive and try my best. It wasn't even useful for ranking up guns because DMZ did that better. End result: MW2 DMZ was the only mode that saw significant play for me and at least 3 other people I played the game with. It was the most approachable and consistent provider of fun. Maybe this is confirmation bias, but most of the CoD content on RU-vid was DMZ at the time. Not Multiplayer or League, and certain-fuckin-not Warzone 2. MW3 has not done better either and has convinced me not to buy CoD titles for at least 3-5 more years. I was hoping Battlefield would make a comeback, but right now my eyes are on Delta Force and titles completely outside of the arcade FPS genre. EDIT: I will agree however that DMZ/CoD brought out a massive identity crisis. They tried to take a fundamentally hardcore mechanic gametype, and get casuals to enjoy it. Casual gameplay (absolutely nothing wrong with it) just simply doesn't benefit from high risk and punishment mechanics of extraction gamemodes. Trying to soften those mechanics to the point, also just removes the incentive to play for those that want hardcore mechanics. Can't have your cake and eat it too sort of dilemma. Design decisions such as castrating snipers and meta-cementing SMG's, yet building big maps with wide open coverless spaces also drastically hurt the game no matter what mode you decided to play.

Recommend Battle Rifles (TAQ-V (best), FTAC Recon, Cronen Squall), or Marksman Rifles (Lockwood MK2 (best), Tempus Torrent, TAQ-M), as the mentioned weapons are excellent at chewing through bot armor. Even some handguns, namely the GS Magna, are very good at shredding armor, the GS Magna can do it in as few as 1-4 shots. The P890 can also technically kill a fully armored bot with a single mag, but it's less efficient than the GS Magna, as it can down unarmored bots in 1 body shot, somewhat armored in 2 body shots, and fully armored bots in 3 to 4, assuming you're close range.

Dmz players were the problem so toxic. They werent good and its clear they would lose there first gun fight and gulag in warzone. It was like playing in the kiddy pool 1v1 and im not good but was a god in dmz. Despite me being nice to guys the people were always ass wipes. I was a solo but could squad wipe by myself but the amount of people would fight me for no reason and i would knock and let self revive and go on my way that would try to fight me again and ild have to full kill or the 6 man teams exfil campers. I mainly used it to level snipers against ai and the players were just a holes. Needed a armoured vehicle just to exfil. When theres usually no point in killing other players i had nothing on me except a half leveled sniper but you could tell these guys didnt get alot of kills.

i found concept art and level design artwork posted on artstation's website. you can see hints there of cancelled content (second year expansion maybe?) and ideas they dabbled with (example: night maps, way before the halloween event). in terms of artdirection and -execution i find mw2 superior to mw3. much more love to detail and level design. urzikstan is kind of bland whereas maps like al mazrah have quite some heavy environmental storytelling that i simple dont see/feel in urzikstan. you can find physical artifacts described in found dmz notes in in al mazrah. i feel the same for verdansk but not for current urzikstan which is kind of all over the place without direction (intersection of zombie lore with wz level design, wtf). the lack of sbmm in dmz was actually a quite refreshing feature allowed for more casual gameplay. when im done with the current battlepass i usually tend to come back to dmz. it feels like a well worn sofa at this point, waiting for me 😄

I played DMZ a few times, maybe about eight hours worth and though its potential was in the beginning amazing, that soon became a nightmare. So many times while playing with a team your were eliminated by what could be very suspicious activity and game play. The one factor that was important to me was the ability to play solo. After attempting that about five times and the possible suspicious game play by others, just as they eliminated me in the game, my interest in DMZ also died. It is about the money. Nothing more. In the current offering in MW3 in multiplayer coming up against those who have invested money in purchasing the various offerings by Activision, it has become either apparent or paranoia has set in that when encountering one of those players who have purchased the whiz bang accoutrements, even if you believe that the encounter was to your advantage, you were eliminated with the effects of their purchase. I am beginning to believe that those of us without the whiz bang effects will not win an encounter with those who have it. Just as EA has managed to kill a franchise, Battlefield, which I have a few thousand hours of play time, I do not play it anymore. The same with Apex Legends; after the ninth of tenth new character I stopped any play time with them and I got a lot of enjoyment from it. Activision has done the same for Call of Duty. You pay to win has been the straw that broke the camel back for me. My interest in COD was second to Battlefield but this goes back to 2007 and in that time I have played many versions of COD and my favorite was Black Ops 2. The zombies mode I did not get interested in until BO3 but since that time have over 5000 hours play it zombies. Black Ops 3 Zombies was the last one that made it fun. BO4 Zombies I still play and the other offerings of Zombies in some of the newer games is not worth the time. No interest. You think with the Black Ops 6 offering I would get excited. Its Treyarch and they were at one time a studio to emulate in quality and stories, but I am not going to waste my money or time with it. As a matter of fact, there is a no game I will more than likely play that will give me more enjoyment and not have to spend as much money; PowerWash Simulator. You thought I was going to write X-Defiant. Played it. To rich for my blood and besides there are to many rabbits.

I’m only at the intro rn…but if you go on to talk about the relationship between Infinity Ward and Activision then I think you’re on the right track. DMZ has a massive following and they can’t say it wasn’t successful, I think it has to do with how much those companies hated each other.

I always imagined it's because like how Treyarch's baby is Zombies (especially with how they supposedly gatekept Zombies from the other studios until Activision seemingly forced their hand), DMZ is also IW's baby. I can't imagine IW would allow SHG to just take over DMZ and maybe in their eyes ruin it or whatever petty shit. I wouldn't lose hope until IW announces their next game whenever that is. I remember well over a decade ago when Zombies was new and I & a lot of people were wondering if BO1 would even have Zombies. With MW3Z, I don't think they were lying when they said that specifically MWZ was the most successful MW side mode, I just think Treyarch weren't anticipating it to be a hit and didn't plan for much content or perhaps they couldn't because those resources would've defo gotten pulled into the next game (BO4 anyone?).

Its crazy how much potential DMZ had, they could've made it really good, also its kinda of one of a kind, imagine tarkov but call of duty, which is awesome for the casual players, sad thing is, half of the tarkov stuff isn't there, i feel like if they added some of the core components of tarkov, it could've been a banger. Me and my dad played the crap out of DMZ because of how fun it is and it had AI as the main focus, and the concept was cool, but when we defeated pyro and got all of the best gear there was nothing really else, which i feel if they had more it would be awesome. This was my two cents, thank you DMZ.

DMZ almost killed cod? 😂 not even close in fact it was just the core game that almost killed cod. Why do you think they started too rush the production of mw3 towards season 5 in mw2? It was due too the rapid decline of the playerbase. We all came into mw2 hoping that they wouldve expanded the experience from mw1 but nope they shot themselves in the foot and it was truly deserved

6:22 MWIII's existence debunks this tho, given it had a relatively short production time of a little over a year, starting in the middle of Season 5 of Vanguard and getting *faster* in response to the criticisms facing MWII's movement. A dev at one point (I forgot who) mentioned the creative decisions behind MWII were deliberate and in response to Warzone steering away from "the roots of Warzone" that Treyarch and Sledgehammer brought to the fold, so the only logical conclusion there is that the movement was done in response to how people exploited the systems Warzone 1, which Raven went onto encourage. 12:02 This is also not true in the slightest. This is something a developer stated to defend the game on Twitter, but was debunked by a dataminer who revealed the red dots are a per-gamemode toggle, and Infinity Ward purposefully disabled the ability to enable them for the end user. This is corroborated by XclusiveAce who was able to play MWII in a private play session earlier, where him and many other content creators praised IW for having red dots, only for a notable frustrated dev to forcible stop the session and disable the feature for every player. The ability to have red dots is not tied to the code or engine, it's a function built into it they don't want people to access.

Hope you read this bro, i'd like to add some things, as a multiplayer main i enjoyed a month or two of DMZ, but it got stale for me because the mode is not for me, not because it was bad. However, what IW did with MW2 and DMZ combined was bad for COD. And i'll explain. First of all, the MW2's movement and it's general mechanics were very out of place, and didn't fit the game. If you argue that its great for DMZ then i have no objections, but because it was applied to the WZ and MP it hurt the gameplay on that side of the game a lot. People got the perception that COD is now a milsim game, or it should be "tactical" and so on. CoD was never like that. Now combine this with the fact that they named the game Modern Warfare 2, which attracted a lot of "sentinels" with the nostalgia bait, there was barely anything in the game from MW2 at all, it was just a marketing gimmick in the end 🤦‍♂️ so all this lead to a lot of dudes in their 30s+ to hop in the game and get disappointed and throw tantrums. That group of people to this day still talking about things such as realism or "adhd kids" running around and ruining the game for them. The gameplay we saw in MW2 was obviously an experiment or a passion project that didnt work out. And it left all the grown midlife crisis having sentinel dudes still raging here and there in the community. I wish MW2 never happened as a whole although i enjoyed DMZ for some time.
