Jesus needed to be baptized , not to give us an example for us to follow .That reason has the appearance of reasonable/ logic but it is flawed reason .Also even though Jesus is our High Priest and Numbers 8:6 points to a full submersion into water with clothes on .,this too is a flawed belief as to the reason of Christs baptism .Truth is found in Daniel 9:24 , because it was the right TIME to bring in righteousness and be anointed as Word of God profasied by Daniel .
HI there, thanks for taking the time to do these, you say in this that the spirit coming upon him enabled him to do what he then went to do but in the same sentance you then say its as symbolic thing. its can't be both, did he recieve something or someone the holy spirit at baptism or did he not and it was just symbolism ? Hi Rory, that's a good question! I think I meant the Spirit coming as a dove was symbolic, obviously the Spirit is not actually a dove but it represented a spiritual reality. I'm also not sure whether Jesus' baptism was intended as a particular anointing by the Spirit, or in fact whether it was just representative of how he lived his whole life. In other words, you could say that God wanted us to know that Jesus lived by the power of the Spirit, but it wasn't something which only happened at his baptism. People don't understand why Jesus had to be baptized by John was to put an end to water baptizing. Water baptizing was under the old covenant. Jesus never baptized anyone in water. 1 Corinthians 1:11-18 Paul tells us that there was contention and confusion over baptism. But in verse 17 Apostle Paul tells us that Christ did not call him to baptize but to preach the Gospel. Now we do know that Paul baptized people at one time. But now there was a new baptizing. The Holy Ghost was now our new for of baptism. Can we keep both forms of baptisms? NO! Ephesians chapter 4 verse 5 tells us there is one faith, one Lord and ONE Baptism.
