That really is the problem of the world... the Nazi's put their children ahead of Jewish children, so they engaged in the holocaust. This lady is "putting her children first" and paying for someone to slaughter millions of baby chicks. Do you have any idea how bad your argument is? Putting your children first doesn't mean setting them up to conform in society. It means teaching them morally right and morally wrong things. It is that easy.

Yes, another vegan family here. Our son is 15 now and gently struggling with being the only vegan (or even vegetarian) in his group of friends. He talks with us and we support him with any decision he makes. He a strong ethical vegan and hates that he struggles with iit at times. But he knows we will love and support him and will not judge him in anyway if he decides he can't be vegan anymore. Its hard to be vegan in a omni world.

We're a vegan family as well, my kids are so active and smart and luckily they don't feel left out because we have suppotive friends and family who also enjoy plant based food although not vegan necessarily and we make it work so everyone is happy. We also have some very health conscious vegan friends with kids and friends with gluten intolerance, friends that prioritize organic and we all find a common ground and are respectful of one another, but I've heard so many times that some vegans are not as supported or respected and it makes them feel like a burden to others so it makes sense that not every family will be able to stay vegan especially with many kids. Love to all of you❤

She should feel guilt though. It's not really hard to be vegan and those problems she described are not a good reason to "leave veganism". It's obviously better then 9/10 other people who don't care that much (or not at all), but she was already vegan - therefore she knows that consuming a few animal products here and there means a few animals suffer for no reason here and there

A lot of people forget the part of the definition of veganism that says "as far as is practical and possible." At home we do vegan, but at school and birthday parties etc I allow my kiddos to have the cake... because it's just not practical to keep them away from all animal products all the time outside of my home.

We have a saying in France, "Only idiots never change their minds". What is right for you, is right for you and what is right for another person is right for them. No one should impose their choices on others. If your friends stop being your friends because of what you eat then they never were your friends in the first place. I have a lactose intolerance and gluten intolerance, I wish I could eat normally but I have no choice but to eat gluten-free foods and lactose-free even though I love dairy products. I always say to my friends that if they're lucky enough to be able to eat wheat and dairy, to do it. lol Because I wish I could.

You are still young and are discovering that life can be a very fluid experience and you are listening to your intuition and I think moving back towards your personality which is open and accepting. I know the feeling of ‘making the perfect choices’ and if not you are not perfect. I have struggled with that all my life and moved through many ways of eating as I listened to my own needs and those of my family. What I see is a family who are teaching your children in such a fantastic way to be open to learning, aspiring to follow their interests and this change will allow them to be more open rather than rigid in their choices. Humans evolved using animals for sustenance, and while we tend to use animal products waayyy more than we need to, a lot of our biological processes are tuned to breaking down animal products. Also those who question vaccines, but still vaccinate their kids even on a delayed schedule. One time I joined a group for vegans because I needed some recipe ideas, and it said that non-vegans were welcome. A single mother made a post about how she was really struggling with veganism for various reasons and wanted to started incorporating a few dairy products back into her diet, but she felt guilty. Most people were commenting saying "you just have to think of the animals, then you won't struggle to stay vegan", so essentially making her feel more guilty. I commented saying that veganism is great but if it's not working for her, eating a bit of dairy doesn't make her a bad person. Then the admins deleted my comment because I was apparently "promoting animal cruelty". That kind of sums it all up, for me. People should be allowed to just do what they can, even if that means not being perfect. The guilt-trips put far more people off of even attempting to eat more plant-based food, than they do convert people to veganism.

I was recovering from an eating disorder and I recognise a lot of how you’re describing how you felt during your veganism with how I felt during the height of my ED. There’s actually a description that might resonate with you quite strongly called Orthorexia. This doesn’t include restricting the amount you eat and isn’t always or even ever associated with weight loss, but it describes a very strict mental association with certain types of food as being very linked to morals and those rules can be incredibly strict (even as strict as, say, refusing to touch or use beeswax crayons). I’m so so glad that you’ve been able to reconcile relaxing some of those rules and conditions you imposed on yourself without automatically feeling like you were doing something Awful or being Abhorrent and Uncaring Towards Animals - because you can be both vegetarian AND care about animals AND be a good person. @@queentatoune great question! Usually there are religious guidelines that stop at the edges of your particular sect of religion where there suddenly becomes an area designated for personal choice. Unless you are the strictest of strict, most orthodox of orthodox, and that’s in every area of your life. I would think there could be circumstances where someone may come to view their very strict eating habits (absent to any other area of their faith where they are as particularly strict) as restrictive and harmful to them, and possibly a form of orthorexia. Label are only helpful if they are helpful and what looks like “orthorexia” or was orthorexia to one person may simply be “paleo” or “veganism” or “keto” for others. The main issue is “are these strict eating habits causing problems for me? Is keeping to these rules causing anxiety, or caused by anxiety unrelated to the food and more related to my inherent worth as a person?” you could take two people with the exact same eating habits and one could be experiencing severe anxiety around food and wish they could allow themselves to eat differently but just CAN’T and the other might be fine with their eating habits and really enjoying their strict diet. And there you have the difference. ETA: and that final example could also be the SAME person, 2/3/4 years apart. What started out as fun and fulfilling suddenly turning anxiety inducing and restrictive due to a change in circumstances, or simply time passing. It’s very fluid and labels are really only helpful if they’re helpful.

I agree about the “all or nothing” approach. I studied environmental science at university and a professor once compared veganism to driving a car. Like obviously we all know that cars are bad for the environment and even mass transportation has some drawbacks, but it’s just not feasible for everyone to walk everywhere. Insisting on walking everywhere would prevent people from thriving because that’s not how the system is set up and it makes more sense to invest in alternative transportation and energy efficiency than never leaving your house!
@FieldOfFireflies
@FieldOfFireflies 3 года назад
That's a false equivalence. Veganism is a stance against an injustice, whereas driving a car isn't. It's like someone comparing anti-racism or anti-sexism to driving a car. They're not even close to the same thing and therefore can't be compared. Would you think an "all or nothing" approach to any other injustice (sexism, racism, homophobia, etc.) is unreasonable or not practicable? If not, then why is it any different when it comes to a certain injustice, but not others?

@hello_its_jo9951

@@mikaapollo1453 our biggest challenge would be dairy products. My kids school doesn’t offer warm meals for special diets (only a vegetarian option) so if I wanted vegan I’d have to make packed lunches every day. They could never eat what their friends bring in or even have the school milk. I want them to have choice and not feel restricted.
@mikaapollo1453
@mikaapollo1453 2 года назад
@@hello_its_jo9951 Alright...so does your family eat vegetarian at home? sometimes vegans make exceptions for their children, like at school they will let their children eat other foods, or drink milk like you said, same if they go to birthday parties. Sounds kinda similar to my dilemma. I am 100% vegan, my husband has only managed to cut out animal products but hasn't given it up completely using yes the excuse he is selfish and likes a good burger once in awhile. I do not let him bring it in the house though or eat it around me. He can go to his friends for that or a restaurant. My reason being was basically if he just eats animals anyways all the time and brings it in the house, as much as I love him and want to respect his choices, it would defeat the purpose of me going vegan. Since I did it for many reasons, including ethics and morals. So we did come to a compromise, that deal was when I went vegan I had to cook him good vegan dishes and he promised to make more conscience decisions towards food. He has cut out meat, never drank milk or big on cheese etc (he is lactose intolerant) etc...like he may now only eat out like once every few months. Probably because all the documentaries and videos I made him watch or I guess my cooking isn't half bad. He really surprised me, because at first it was a fight. Now I have another dilemma too....I rescued cats before I went vegan. So like from as far as I know and hours upon research, cats are carnivores and it is impossible to argue that. They can't just supplement like humans do, they naturally absorb nutrients from only the direct source. That even if it was possible to turn a cat vegan, it has MANY risks. So I am in a lose lose situation. So I just buy more expensive food that is cruelty free. At least until there is better options. So I am conflicted like you, but it didn't stop myself from going vegan. Way I put it is...yes the long term goal to vegans is globalize veganism....But we need some short term goals. Me going extreme vegan is not ending the death or the torture animals go through etc....Tomorrow not everyone is going to go vegan. It doesn't happen over night. In the mean time we can do our best to help end things like the cruelty side of things as much as possible. Everybody does this by shortening the demand. Any option to cut out animal products is a step. It may not be the best step. I get that taking the life of an animal that is unnessary or stealing milk that belongs to a calf and all the other awful things is bad yes....But if our demand was not so high you can at least hope for a better life for these animals. Even in the best of slaughterhouses. highest technology etc...have routine checks....mistakes happen because our demand for these products is insanely high. WAY too high. We can at least help end that. Farm animals are crammed in too small spaces etc because again they have to breed so many to meet the demand. The more people go vegan or the more people make the option to cut animal products out of their life, the animals will still benefit. It is why I try to be very careful with my preaching. We need to stop calling people fake vegans or hypocrites. Some people are just truly doing their best and they do want the same as vegans. Does that make sense?

As someone who has been vegan a long time, this makes sense to me. It’s not an easy decision, but lifestyle wise it’s very easy to slide back into vegetarian. Life gets so busy with kids and work and pets and vegan can be expensive and hard at times. What I don’t get is people who become full blown carnivores, or never eat a vegan meal again, or eat a ton of meat after being vegan. Being more flexible does help with the heaviness of it. Great explanation, very thoughtful.

I've enjoyed following your family on social media for many years. It has been really lovely to see the changes that you've undergone recently, from schooling to diet and the arrival of the twins. I think it is really important we all always strive to keep an open mind so the shifts life invites us to take are met with open arms. I wish you all the best of luck moving forward! I would never, ever feel compelled to criticize a decision you've made for the betterment of your lives. You have a lovely family and it's been such a joy to follow your ongoing journey. Sending love and positivity from the States

We love you and your family for you, not for what you eat. You are amazing and I have always admired you. You are awesome. There are so many things I admire from you and I still do.

I totally understand your decision. I'm vegetarian, and I'm quite flexible with dairy products so sometimes I do try not to eat them, but if I want a pizza, a birthday cake, or I'm hanging out with friends, I just eat them, without wondering if there is a vegan option. I believe I'm making enough impact in the world and with the animals, not eating all the time. Also, when I have kids, I'm going to make the house vegetarian, but if they go out or are at school, and want to eat meat, I'm totally fine. My choice was to be vegetarian, and they should make theirs. My reasons are not their reasons So it's nice that the kids are going to feel included in school now Once or twice, or even more, it's fine. You are already doing a lot for the planet

Congratulations for having the courage to choose what is best for you and your family right now. You are teaching your kids to be open minded, tolerant and free to think and choose what is best for them. How could we be disappointed with that? Loved your video ❤️

So as a kid I grew up Kosher but at first it wasn’t that strict. I could still go to fast food places, have gelatine products like lollies and yoghurt and have milk shortly after meat. Always had kosher meat at home tho. Then when I was 6 we went strict being Kosher. As a child I felt limited and left out with friends at parties & soccer or school. Because kids would be given out the gelatine lollies or have meat at party or other things that weren’t Kosher. As time went on & my dad being strict it has made me hate being Kosher more. As well as a child if I ate unkosher I felt guilty but also enjoyed it. I would go to the shops and buy unkosher food. For years we were limited to restaurants. Now at 21 I eat what I want. However my dad still guilts me and doesn’t allow me to have unkosher food out of the house with him. So we eat vegetarian. I do get frustrated with this as he doesn’t care if his sister or mum eats unkosher or makes it into a big deal. As well my Mum side aren’t Jewish & when we have Christmas we have to bring our own meat & I hate it as I just feel left out not being able to make my own decisions and try the food they are having. So I 100% agree with what you are doing is best for the kids.

Thank you for being open about your journey. I struggled to produce breast milk during my pregnancy and placed my little one on formula. He grew and flourished on cow's milk. You did the best thing for your babies and they look so healthy 💕.

The last comment I made was how you & Ro are amazing parents. Your decision about no longer being a vegan just adds to it. Not because you’re now vegetarians but being open minded about this decision & future ones as well. You are making the best choices for your family, just like everyone else. The only difference is the majority of us don’t have YT channels. IMHO, you didn’t come across judgmental. Love & Blessings from Eastern USA, Belinda
