it's a good thing to keep the cars consistent anyway, might as well make the smaller ones bigger since the bigger ones can't get any smaller without losing detail
True, but I feel like older style, smaller vehicles can still work in your city, like the 4 wide can be built into small work vehicles ie. Postal, meter maid, utv's, Go-Karts, so the bricks are still usable and create more realistic city still.
If I would make 6 wide cars, suv's and vans, while making the back of the ambulance 8 wide, I think I would also make the busses and big trucks 8 wide.
I personally prefer to build 6-stud-wide cars that can seat 2 minifigures side-by-side, 7-stud-wide vans, and 8-stud-wide large trucks, large trailers and buses.
Minifigs are less than 3 studs wide at the top of their torso, and you can sit them next to each other on jumpers with panel pieces on the sides to fit their arms.
I think both 6 and 8 wide are good. For the roads 6 is best, and you can actually get very detailed with it. But I do like my Speed Champions 8 wide :D Do you have a tutorial on that police car from the beginning? It's so dope
Haha definitely love the Speed Champions sets too! Instructions for the police SUV can be found here: afolstore.com/collections/6-wide-vehicles/products/lego-nypd-police-suv-instructions
Even before lego started making those 8 wide cars (which I’m still unsure of) I’ve preferred the 6 wide design since it seems closest to Minifigure scale while still having a good amount of seating space.
I love my 8-wide car MOCs, but I kinda laugh at the new Speed Champions sets. LEGO makes them that big and still can't include opening doors/hood/trunk? As an experiment I even managed to add those features on a couple of 6-wides.
I think 6 wide is great build.l,and I grew up building them, but over the years I grew to 8 wide vehicles. I like to build my vehicle 8 wide cause it creates a challenge and most people don't usually build 8 wide. But all in all I think both are very good
I like your take on it! I think if you have the space in your city they can definitely look nice, but we have a small studio so every square inch counts!
I don't remember if I've said this before on another video, but this is a really helpful series. I'm not yet equipped to build a city of my own, but I'm using my time now trying to brainstorm a layout.
Recently I built a 8-wide SUV that could fit 4 people, I don't plan on putting it in the Lego streets and if it was 6-wide I think the max would be 2 people
You can fit 2 ppl right next to each other u just have to adjust their arms but yes 8 studs is way better for room but 6 studs looks better compared to 8 bc of the size of the mini figure and eyc
I guess recently I've been building in 6 to 8 wide as that's what my current collection and the modern parts easily allow. as a kid I would mostly make 4 wide vehicles.
I really don't understand why Lego botched their new street system by making it too narrow. If they only had as much of attention for the quality of their product as they had for their pricing. I mean at their price point you can't have 'mistakes' like these. And yes I mean their listed prices, because they charge their resellers accordingly.
I personaly think it should be 7 for cars and 8 for trucks. That way you can fit 2 minifigures beside each other, and have the trucks be bigger than the cars
I tend to vary size depending on the vehicle, a city bus is going to be wider than a car in reality so why distort scale? I also refuse to use the new garbage road plates.
I personally like 8 stud wides car more since it has better proportions and scale to a real car but the problem is that it’s too big for lego cities in general... great video though!
This is my first time here but i saw that police car and IMMEDIATELY went to the store. Then i saw the fire truck and now have three things in my cart… but i wish i knew how much it would be for the prices so i know how much money i’m going to end up spending.
We get that question all the time, and unfortunately it’s really hard to answer due to numerous reasons like taxes in your area, shipping costs to you, which bricklink stores you buy from, how many stores you buy from, if you buy new or used bricks, etc…. That said, the fire truck is more expensive than the police vehicles, due to the part count and some rarer parts it uses, whereas the cop cars have more common parts. Hope that helps!
This is how its supposed to be IRL cars are 5 - 6 feet wide Trucks are 6 - 7 feet wide Semi rig and garbage trucks are 8 feet wide And buses are 9ft wide 4 stud wide was always undersized for a car
I'm Lego fan also I'm from Europe and I have no idea what 6 wide vehicle is. It's 6 brick long or what xD. I'm really confused. This is not a Lego or it's? Thanks for answering. Cars are awesome 😍
Hello - you receive a parts file and PDF instructions, the parts file can be uploaded to Bricklink for easy ordering of the exact parts and pieces you'll need!
Yes I prefer 6 stud wide too. The 8 stud wide like speed champions Nissan GTR Nismo is not perfect. For example the tyres are not match into the body size of the 8 stud wide car. It looks weird.
10-wide and 12-wide would be more realistic, since it fits two minifigs side-by-side, and take up a LOT of space, again, just like real life. I do understand the appeal of 6-wide though...
The annoying thing about building Lego vehicles is that you'll never be able to fit two mini fugure sitting next to each other except if you build them so wide they look out of proportion and kinda comical.
I personally LOVE the 8-wide vehicles. So much detail and you can fit two minifigs in typically. But I have major kudos to the people who cram so much detail and design into a 6-wide vehicle. And I get why for your custom cities / streets. I don't have a custom city or anything so this doesn't apply to me. But I did just build a custom 8-wide Ghostrider Hell Charger car from the standard 6-wide version in stores and man it's so much better and detailed than the original.
European cities with smaller cars but similar traffic problems kinda disagree. Asian cities with even smaller cars but even bigger traffic problems severely disagree.
@@FernandoHernandez-jw4yy european cities mostly have clocked up roads at rush hours, and are being influenced by ever bigger foreign suv's asian cities are jusg big in general and dont offer much for pedestrian or bike traffic, just a lot of carlanes to insentivice traffic. those cities arent worse due to smaller cars, its the only reason they survive
The problem is with car dependence, in the US they don’t do public transport like in the EU and when they do, the public transport doesn’t flow because they have no priority treatment. They also don’t do any bicycle infrastructure. Everyone in cars means a full road, resulting in congestion.
6-wide is my usual building preference for cars, sometimes 8-wide. There's more room for details, more space for the driver, and it's a better scale for Lego cities.
With the use of jumper plates and tiled L shaped bricks it’s possible to comfortably seat 2 mini figures while still being only 6 studs wide. @jaystepher did a perfect example of this with one of his red sports cars
The ideal for me is a 6 wide vehicle that can seat 2 minifigures side by side. Part 30149 makes it easiest, and thankfully Lego has brought it back for a few recent sets.
I was just thinking about that piece myself and didn't know the part number. Nice to know it's still being made. I used it a lot as a kid. I think I got it in an Indiana Jones set.
I started to build six wide Lego vehicles because I wanted to be able to put two people side by side as well as using the Lego chairs. Problem is I never had the right amount of pieces or the proper pieces to make them the right way. Six wide definitely looks better
This is perfect! I’ve been wanting a mail truck and Amazon truck for such a long time! You should also build a UPS truck to have the full set. Also I’ve been wanting to convert over to MILs plates and these vehicles are perfect for them. Thanks!
