Why We Changed Our Life And Moved To Australia, BUT NEARLY DIDN'T 

Moved to Aus. with my family 43 yrs ago , never been back to England ( not even for a holiday) and never will, no regrets at all.

It's time to leave the dull, damp and wet UK. 2023 will be the year I move to Oz. Great video - everything I think and feel in a short sharp wake up call! Thank you.

Great reflection and it's good to know what deliberate choices you make when migrating, else you'd just feel lost. I myself made some tough choices - people kept telling me that I'm deluded to think that I'll be poorer in Australia "once I earn dollars". They were wrong.. I pretty much moved here to be poorer even with decent incomes. In my case I had to trade wealth for safety and freedom Australia offers, and couldn't be more grateful to the Australians.

I arrived in Australia as a six year old, with my German family. My mother was the last to call Australia home. The rest of us slotted in very easily…..that was 62 years ago😂

It sounds to me as though perhaps you would prefer things in Australia further down south. We live in central Vic, and we get cold crispy winter days with no wind and a bright blue sky. Autumn and spring are wonderful and summers are very hot, many days over 40+. We live in a farming community of just 50 people and we love it. We have the best neighbors anyone could hope for. We have community dinners at a local winery, owned by one of the neighbors. We are surrounded by miles of open fields filled with sheep, and horsesA And cows, not too far up the road. We lived in Darwin for 12 years but the humidity got to be too much. Down here we have 5 kids and 9 grandkids all within 30 mins. You definitely get 4 season in Victoria.

I look forward to your weekly videos and thanks to them know we have made the right decision come the 30th of December, when we fly. Its been reassuring to have watched your experience with your wife and child, as that is the one part me and my wife are dreading is keeping our 3 year old entertained on the flight!

Quality of life is the key. The problem is family you leave behind. It shouldn’t be about right now. Each day, week, month and year is part of the construction of the rest of your life. Your journey will always change and mostly for the positive. Remember that you don’t live in my country, but our country. Keep enjoying and building your life.

Moved here 20 years ago and have never regretted it

Your videos have settled my nerves a bit about starting the visa process for permanent residency in Oz under 189 visa! I think the lifestyle will be amazing for my kids. Been lucky enough to tour the East Coast and most of the west coast. Beautiful friendly country!!

Had a connection with a Skilled Occupation List. Became aware through ex-pat forums how stress inducing it could be. But from the Government point of view its more about addressing skill shortages and productivity issues than migration opportunities for non-citizens. Governments are always concerned when stories about graduate engineers driving taxis appear. The lists are dominated by occupations that take a comparatively long time to train for - doctors, vets, nurses etc. So if Australia has a shortage migration is the quickest solution rather than wait 4 or 5 years for new students (with little experience). Even then some licensed professions are difficult as they are "protected" by professional associations - in my day dentists and plumbers were examples but they would argue its about maintaining standards. Shortages do change - a decade ago we had a massive over supply of primary school teachers so no-one in Australia objected to them not being on the list. There are usually "easier" opportunities if you are prepared to go to a regional location - but Europeans find the "isolation" of being 6 hours drive from a large city or 3 hours to the next small town difficult. Though Australian cities are very multi-cultural, regional communities are less so - so that can be difficult for some. If you are really keen you can always become an international student in Australia - but study a shortage occupation. This will probably cost you over $20,000 pa in course fees but you can work 20 hours per week in term time and more in holidays. There are over 400,000 international students in Australia, mostly from Asia with very few from Europe. Estimated that over 30% are looking for a migratory pathway and PR.

Canberra and to a certain extent Melbourne have seasons… Canberra is beautiful with its distinct seasons.

There are plenty of towns that get " seasons" and regular frosts in winter... Here are just a few in NSW Bowral Orange Bathurst Canberra (ACT), VICTORIA Ballarat Bendigo Most of Melbourne So many more but can't mention them all... If you want seasons Queensland isn't the right place for that... Maybe try moving further south. Anywhere south of Sydney.

Hi Ross, another video request from me lol, just what are australian Christmas traditions? We are having our last UK Christmas but do wonder how it will be in Oz. I don't imagine we will want a full turkey roast and watch only fools and horses.

I was lucky I didn't have to move here but know how great a country it is I've lived in Gawler SA, Sandgate and Kirra in QLD born in Melbourne and live here again I don't think you can go wrong if you live on the east or south/east coast there's something for everybody just visit and make your choice it's a great place to live

Good video. Thanks. A lot of people don’t even visit Australia before attempting to migrate which is daft in my book. I was fortunate to be on ships on a regular run to Australia in the 70’s - even tried to jump in New Zealand - so I knew a bit about bit about the place. Luckily for me I was (reluctantly) accepted by the Australian government as a permanent resident in 1980. The most important word you use is ADAPT. Australia is not going to change for you - and neither should it. I refuse to even consider going back to the UK for even a visit - seems like an alien society to me (and getting worse) Funnily enough, the places that seem more like the UK to me - Melbourne and Tasmania - I cannot stand but maybe that’s just the crap weather. We moved here 10 years ago (I was 63 at the time on a Parental permanent visa) and can honestly say I have never regreted a single moment of my life in this amazing country. We live on the central coast of NSW so we get slightly cooler winters than you guys up in Brisbane. So it doesn't matter how old you are, GO FOR IT.

Ross I know a big thing about moving to OZ ,is missing family and friends.Now you have been here several years has any one made the effort to come visit?Im one of eleven children,had lots of good friends.My parents came once a sister came once and a brother came twice.No mates,and I always told everyone they have a place to come to .I’ve been a little disappointed over the years as we have been back 21 times in 52 yrs.

Plus is there are opportunities to go back to UK for Xmas in coming years.

Good video Ross… I have lived in Europe for a few years and Christmas period with snow and the markets is amassing. In Aus Christmas dinner is normal a bbq with family in the back yard on a 30C day, with a cold beer. Merry Christmas to you and family…🎉🎄🍾

I'm in my 70s Both my parents moved here as teenagers. Mum from Italy and Dad from Essex I was born in Sydney and have lived in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne Adelaide and Brisbane (mostly Brisbane) I'm feeling the cold as I get older so keep moving North :) If you want to see and feel the seasons tho Brisbane doesnt offer that. You need to move much further south for frosty mornings and snow. Canberra is great for seeing and feeling the seasons even sometimes having snow. Or Southern NSW or Victorian towns ... I wouldnt recommend Melbourne because of the 4 seasons in one day reputation but it is a fantastic city. Brisbane is even too cold for us now and we've moved to Bundaberg coastal area. All the best wherever you are... Australia has plenty of climate choices :)

If you want seasons, move to Tasmania. It's a paradise. No way I could ever live in Brisbane's heat.

There are places in Queensland that get cold, and have the seasons. Visit Stanthorpe and Killarney, they are only a couple of hours from Brisbane. It even snows there occasionally.
