I like the Taxa Mantis as well. We go where bears wonder around. We can lower the tent part on the roof of the Mantis and still sleep in it. Those Opus trailers worry me. I'd wager a bear could fool around and destroy and enter one of those. Maybe I'm a little paranoid, but it isn't like bears have never done anything kinda crazy before.
Enjoyed the video Preston. Can you do a video on the advantages of paying more for this style camper compared to a regular size camper. Thanks so much for the video.
You added a lot of things i didn't find in other videos in checking out the RV. I think you could really crush some videos oriented towards those trying to find the right RV who might be thinking similarly. I'm actually looking at the Opus 15 vs Mantis as well.
Thinking about buying one of these… have read some bad reviews on quality, but these reviews are from 5+ years ago. Leaks and construction of the walls/frame seemed to be a popular theme amongst bad reviews. My hope is that the newer ones have been remedied. Any guidance or insight you can share? Oh, also, my garage is about 20 feet deep. A little higher than 7 feet high. And about 8 feet wide. According to the specs, this will fit in my garage. Does the 19 feet length include the tongue of the trailer? That would be a dealbreaker for me, if so. Thanks so much! Really appreciate your help.
Just pulled mine from NC to AK on the ALCAN and only issue I had was the door U bolt broke, but I bought one in a Canadian tire (its just a standard U bolt, thats what I like about the trailer, you can fix everything from parts in a hardware store) and replaced it in a few minutes. They are built super rugged in my opinion, almost over built, the leaking in earlier models was addressed. I have had mine in all kinds of weather and I have no issues with leaking etc. I will have to go measure it later for you, its currently in a storage lot here in Alaska as we just moved here and I can't keep it at my house (only have a 1 car garage) but I think it will fit in most garages if you don't get the overland model (mine is the overland model), but even the overland model will fit in some garages. (Mine won't b/c I have an RTT on the back of mine now).
This is incredibly helpful! Wow! Thank you! I can’t thank you enough for the quick reply and the vote of confidence with this RV. Looking to probably buy from a dealer far away as I’m in Colorado and the prices for campers are never discounted, if you can even find them available. I’ve also seen a significant reduction off of MSRP around the country, so that’s appealing to me, too. Yeah, I won’t do the Overland model. I would like a nice A/C unit and, if possible, 2 lithium ion batteries (may only need one as I’m only going to be taking this for MAYBE a long weekend, at most. Mostly just 1-2 nighters. Have 2 young kids and the Mrs. Again, can’t thank you enough for the reply. Happy camping to you and yours! Cheers!
I’m pulling it with a 9000lb ram 3500, which is more than 2X the weight of the Mantis. I don’t even know it’s back there regardless of the conditions. I cruse at 70-80 MPH and barely know I have a trailer hooked up. However if you’re pulling it with a Tacoma, you will have a different experience. It pulls really nice with the independent suspension and lock and roll hitch.
I have over 20k miles on it doing speeds up to 80MPH and it pulls like a dream. I don’t see a need for WDH. However with that being said my tow rig is 9k lbs, so double the trailer GVWR which is the rule of thumb for not using a WDH.
