Yup - The great attractor stands in the center of our galaxy. It is a black hole with a very dense concentration of matter around it. There are also other objects in the universe that can block observation of objects behind them. Thankfully, instruments like the JWST are helping to change that reality every day.
We can see through it somewhat, especially now that we have more Infrared devices. We still can't really see through the center of our galaxy (Sagittarius A Star), and some very dense clumps of stars, gas, dust and plasma.
