Interesting, I find the opposite! It's so much easier to homeschool multiple aged kids. We have used it from the beginning (since 2018), I now have a 3rd, 1st & pre. My 3rd is almost totally independent and likes teaching himself his lessons, I just check his work. This is the first year we've use all TGATB and I am loving it! We do history and science as a family, only 1 or 2 lessons a week and sometimes I'll split up those lessons. We homeschool through a charter and so my kids have to take standardized tests. They have always tested 99% in the nation. It's so good. Try their newer editions! We loved the old, but the new ones cannot be beat.
Same here! I have 9 kids (7 school age) and we love the good and the beautiful. But I am thankful there are so many options out there so everyone can find something that works for them. ❤
I’ve been using it for 4 years now, started with Pre K, and I love that it’s open and go, no planning other than collecting some small supplies. My boys love it, and the LA Level 3 books are superb!
I've tried to use it (LA and Science) a few separate times. It feels too scattered for my brain. I love the idea of it, it's so pretty. But I cannot get it to work in our homeschool.
I have been looking for language arts for my 4-7 graders my kids hated good and the beautiful!!! What would u suggest for science and history for kids that are struggling learners or just not willing to put in effort to learn!!!! Math to
I’ve had the most success with a DIY science curriculum. Following books from publishers just hasn’t ever stuck like I wanted it too. As for history, I build around US history and use Evan Moor History Pockets have been our biggest success.
I didn’t think I would ever touch their curricula again after their math was such a flop for us. And my older daughter needed a break from their LA. It never was a good fit for my older son. BUT their revised LA courses are SO much better. I really like how they are using the booster cards to teach phonics instead of kids trying to memorize phoneme flash cards without any context. My daughter is using their new Kindergarten level and it’s going very well! I did not care for their old LA! I’m also getting a lot more confident in making a curriculum work for me.
I love how different curricula work for different families. I have 8 kids...3 in college, so 5 at home...high school down to kindergarten. We've used some TGAB LA for the past few years and I've really loved it, but we are also a very "literature heavy" family in general so I don't lean on a LA program too heavily just mainly to fill in some gaps. We've enjoyed their science and history and I'm thiiiinking about trying a year of the high school LA, but only because we've done two solid years of Memoria Press and IEW so I'm mainly switching for the variety. I've used their Math and don't love it.
I totally agree. I love that each curriculum publishers are different so that we all get what works for us. Can you imagine if they were all the same!!! Thanks for your comment.
@@lindsaypotter3694 Yes! We are trying TGAB LA for my junior and I think she likes it, but I also had her pick one (2? I can't remember) book to do using Memoria Press. My 11-year-old is also using MP for a supplemental LA alongside TBAB.
@@lindsaypotter3694 I currently just use Memoria Press for the literature. I've used their Geography which I liked and the American History for high school which was okay. I like the classical style, but find it a bit monotonous sometimes so I like to change things up from time to time.
I stopped using their LA because they only used their own literature. There are so many great classic books, I felt like my kids were missing out. Also, my kid was SO bored. I do really like their math though!
I only have one child and when I was researching homeschool curriculum for my daughter for last fall I found at least for the math curriculum was too lengthy and very parent heavy. Also I heard that a lesson takes at least a half hour. For me that is too long for a 5 or 6 year old especially if you want to incorporate other subjects. You can also break down a lesson into a few days but I find things like math you need to finish one lesson in one sitting. For the younger grades of course you're still going to be very much involved in teaching your child especially if they can't read yet. But I want the curriculum to be in a way where after I teach the concepts that I could just leave my daughter to do her own work.
I have had 4 kids on it at once and never had issues and they went through high school. it stats that there is a lot and to only use as much as a paperent thinks their child needs. I never needed to buy anything. As my kids got older they were able to do it all on their own. We also got the games for history. I love the fact that it is nondenominational but still cover very good Christian values. I am a very busy mom that was working , had at least four kids homeschooling at a time, diving my blind husband where he needing and work our farm and still had time for this program. Some days we had lighter school work but for the most part we did school from 8am to 11 am each day, so my kids spent way less time in school than my older kids did before they were homeschooled or in a charter school. So 3 hours with a small break worked great. I still have one kid finishing high school, going to college, and working while using this program and she still has plenty of time to sleep and be on her phone. And none of my kids like school at all and sometimes struggle.
I love this comment so much! I’ve heard so many times that the older levels are far more independent (for obvious reasons). I love your success story, I’m totally considering it for my oldest again. Thank you so much for your perspective.
@@FullPurposeAndHeart The key is it is not made to use everything they set for each day. You only should use what your child and you can handle and /or need. Like our traditional schools here if your child can do everything each day it would be the equivalent to the "Gate " program that is for the A++ students. I hope that helps you. With the kindergarten you should only need to be spending a max of 2 hours on it with it broken into at least 4 parts. With homeschooling on average you should not be spending over half of the time as traditional school spends a day. Here the kids are there 7 hours or 4 for kindergarten. Unless your child loves learning.
I have used the Math and LA from TGTB. I didn,t like the math, but the LA was wonderful. I love all the topics they touch on. However, I'm not exclusive to them by any means. I am a very eclectic homeschooler.
I tried the math and hated it, it was so scattered and all over the place. It didn't hold my sons attention at all. i look at they're site qll the time but none of it ever sells to me 😆
I agree about the math. I don’t think my kids learned anything from it. Although my kids did really enjoy the old version with all the games but it just never stuck on one topic long enough for it to stick. But maybe it works for mathy kids? The revised math induced tears almost every day for my 3rd graders. We made it to lesson 14 and I was like this is just not going to work!
Eeek! Sounds rough. I haven’t tried their Math! I will agree on the beauty though. I look at it all the time too but can’t convince that it’s different enough to try.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way about this curriculum! My oldest and youngest get very overwhelmed with it and my middle one gets very frustrated. We do very well with cut and dry and get to the point kind of curriculum!☺️
I wanted to love TG&TB, we’ve quit and retried three times, it’s just so confusing, the teachers part and the students part mixed all up, was just too much. We’ve done Language Arts and Math. My boys didn’t like it and I found it so all over the place. But we tried.
Interesting insight. Personally I have used them for my 3 girls from preschool to level 3 for language arts and we’re up to level 5 in handwriting and I’ve completed probably half of the science units. It’s been great to use for all three of my daughters. Very open and go and my girls like that they know what to expect and lessons are very short ( but can be lengthened if wanted or needed).
I started last year using their free math curriculum. I loved the prettiness; but it just cost too much for me to print. Ink can be expensive! This year I purchased physical copies of their handwriting books for 2 kids. It was an expense but they have mostly enjoyed using it. I havent decided if i will purchase again though.
I made the mistake of trying to print the free curriculum for Math and LA this year. It was the worst decision ever. I've easily spent more in color ink than I would have on the books. I now only print in color the things we absolutely have to, which is a bummer, but I'm just trying to hold out till we finish the books in about 8 weeks. I love the curriculum though!
We’ve used them before and it wasn’t a good fit but we are revisiting next school year because starting in grade 4 it is student led. I’ll have 4th, 6th, kinder, and a toddler. I’ll need my older two more independent. I guess I’m the younger grades I expect any curriculum to be more parent led. Especially when they can’t read. Their math has been great for us so far from 4th and up. I don’t like them for k-3 math. I don’t like how quickly math facts are taught
It’s so true. The younger greats are very parent led. I guess I was just looking for more … idk…fun?? lol. It’s good to hear the older levels take student led. I’ve never looked deeper at them since our debacle of the younger levels…and science. Woof.
It's a BEAUTIFUL curriculum and love the open and go. We still do the handwriting but the language arts didn't work well for our kids. We now do explode the code, all about reading and math u see. My kids needed orton gillingham type of instruction.
I was never interested in the core subjects from them. I don't like that the teacher instructions are on their book. It's too cluttered for me. The only thing we have done is the Science Birds Unit this year because my daughter is obsessed with birds. It went okay. I only see myself doing the science units and nothing else from them. I always get weary of things everyone is flocking to. I generally go against the crowd when everyone is swaying one way, so I think I was turned off from them from the beginning.
I’ll say the kindergarten LA worked for my middle child but math, science and LA was not a good fit for my oldest. It’s got too much fluff! But we do really enjoy their handwriting. There are sooooo many better curricula options out there but their advertising has nothing on TGTB.
We tried using only TGTB before, but that was a nightmare. I agree that there was a lot of tracher involvement, which was hard with 2 kiddos at the time. It also took tons of time each lesson. We attempted science (older versions), but that was a flop. Same with history. It took hours and we didn't enjoy it, so we didnt finish science ir history. However, we do use their math curriculum. My oldest is in grade 5 now and he buzzes right through the lessons. He doesnt watch the videos because he just wants to get into it. My other is in 3rd grade and likes to do the games and such, so i do that with him. We did just get Maturation as well, and I'm hoping to work on that with mt almost 6th grader, along with other resources i find. I want them to know about the 🐦 and 🐝 way before i did because that was horrible and made for an awkward wedding night (LDS here too, so you probably get it!).
I still have their maturation unit in my pile to hopefully do. I thumbed through it and still am uninspired to teach it. I enjoyed “the book for boys” better for my oldest boy.
@@FullPurposeAndHeart yeah, I don't know your age range of kids, but I have a couple of teenagers and they actually love prepping for the science stuff. If I didn't have that help I also would probably fizzle out.
the amount of things i would need to purchase i would need to buy or print if using the free version, its too expensive. i have 6 kids, it would be too costly for my family
I’m a paper person to the core so the free versions, though an amazing resource for the budget, do me little good because I too need to print everything out.
I’ve tried their math, science, and language arts. Their science was SO boring. I have a degree in science, so I know how fun science can be… and TGTB seriously did a disservice to the science. The language arts was so scattered and my kids never retained anything. The math so far behind grade level that i dropped it when my son’s state test scores plummeted. Until then I didn’t know, but after comparing it to other curriculums, I was shocked. It is a gorgeous curriculum, and I love that it’s scripted, but I’ll never touch it again.
The gorgeous part gets me every time! They have a beautiful artist on staff. But the scripted part is what is hard for me. And yes. A little boring. I’d agree! Thanks for your input!
I dont like its expensive people are brainwashed to think its not. 37.00 then adding a journal for 6.99 not cheap. Shipping is rid as well 13.98 for one small book. Also, most that use it are brainwashed like dont say one word against it. They offer free downloads well hello. They are charing others for ur frew down load.
