You mean a church close to you or a faith? If a church attend a service virtually, if a faith then you are doing well in your search. Start in Orthodoxy.

For me it's all about worshipping Him....He died for me, BRUTALLY, not only is it the least I can do, but I WANT to. I want to glorify Him. I want to thank Him. I want to LOVE Him! As for what I receive...I have to say, even if I don't feel like being there for whatever reason, honestly, I ALWAYS walk out feeling better than when I walked in. The Spirit of God is there! I received my Lord! This is a Holy Mass, not a service. I can't help but be changed. It's not even a choice, it just happens ❤

I would add too this verse. It speaks about meeting regularly with other believers which is important. Allows you to grow, praise God, learn of God, and help others. Hebrews 10:24-25 KJV And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: [25] Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is ; but exhorting one another : and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

After looking into Messianic Judaism and the importance of Sabbath in both testaments I started to view Sunday as the 8th day, like that mentioned in the laws of circumcision, whereby creation is set apart... Or as an 8th day in the (re)creation of man. Nice to see I've not been TOO far out there, haha. What does the Orthodox Sabbath look like?

I love the 8th day concept. A day beyond our grasp, but it's there. I could never understand in my heart, why the day is important. Would it matter to Jesus if I/we took one day in 7 out for holy reasons, so long as it's the same day each week and treated as holy? Bless you, and thank you for your work.

I thought announcing on the eighth day was because that's when circumcisions take place. Also, thank you for telling us about your tea.
@Patristix
@Patristix 2 года назад
It's likely that is how it started, and Jesus was so named on the 8th day. But we do that in Orthodoxy for both genders (in Jewish tradition the naming rules were different for girls), and it's added to our understanding of 8 rather than just being a carried on thing from before. And you're welcome! The mug was nice too.

Sunday was chosen for the Resurrection as the Lord’s Day but I heard references that Sunday was also a day of rest & worship for Romans who worshipped the Sun God that why it’s called SUN Day….and hence the implication that Christians adopt pagan days of worship.
@Patristix
@Patristix 9 месяцев назад
Many references tend to float around, though very few hold up to scrutiny. Sunday wasn't a Roman rest day till Constantine in the 4th century, by which time we have a clear Christian use of Sunday for over 2 centuries. And despite Constantine, records show it wasn't widely accepted as a rest day for decades. Also Sunday is a Germanic word, not a Roman one. The Romans used the word 'sol' for sun and Greeks 'Helios'. The Sun Day interestingly seems connected to a week based around the '7 celestial bodies' which included the sun rather than to specific deities which in English have inspired the other 6 days of our week.
@dorfusd2634
@dorfusd2634 9 месяцев назад
@@Patristix Thanks for clarifying. I heard a Bible teacher (probably Messianic Jew) say that in a class and perhaps implied that Christians adopted pagan days of worship. The point being made was how man plays with God's law. God instituted the Sabbath (Genesis) before there were any Jews - Sabbath was given to mankind and not to Jews alone (God declared which day would be a day of rest). God reminded the Jews to keep Holy the Sabbath (Exodus), but man changed God's law (Canon XXIX). The reason for the change came at the Council of Laodicea when it was felt Christians must not Judaize by resting on the Sabbath and that's why we have the Lord's Day. I don't think that was the sole reason for the change, but I'd like to hear your comments. I think Christians see the Lord's Day as a renewal of creation in Christ. But interesting point on how God instituted Sabbath for mankind and not Jews only. Hmmm 🤔

It bugs me when people say that Christians celebrate the sabbath on Sunday, or that Sunday is the sabbath. We go to church on sunday and rest on sunday because it is the Lords day not because it is the sabbath.
