With the suction cup ones, if you squeeze your sponge out enough that it won't drip before you put it in, you can just put the sponge holder on your backsplash instead of in your sink. That way it won't get in the way when washing dishes at all.

Yep, this is what I do. I keep it in a 3M caddy along with my dish and hand soap (both pump action). Which is great because for whatever reason I have a compulsive need to keep everything attached to walls and off counters.

I keep a bottle of chlorine bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) in my sink cupboard. After using my sponges, I rinse them in the beach solution, squeeze them out, and then place them in the rack to dry. Sponges stay mold, mildew, and bacteria free and clean smelling.

I had the winning sponge holder for a little over a year when the black coating started peeling off. It still performed well but it looked awful so I just bought the OXO. I know it didn’t rate as high in drying time for sponges but at least I won’t encounter the same problem.

I bought a different style of sponge holder. It looks a bit like the over the faucet models, but instead of a loop at the top, the wire is welded to a back plate. The back plate is attached to the sink by a piece of double stick foam. I bought it on the Big Online Shopping Site, I don't remember the vendor. Before installing I carefully thought about placement, then washed, rinsed and dried that part of my sink completely. That was over 4 years ago ... not only hasn't it budged, but the area around it looks very clean. The wire is stainless steel, it still looks great. When I do need to remove it, I expect I'll need a razor blade and strong chemicals to remove the glue. That does not scare me ... until then, the sponge holder is doing its job perfectly.

I just bought a new sponge holder this week, a flexible rubber one from Walmart, one of the first ones shown. Yes, in hangs down into the sink, but it is flexible, not rigidly attached, so when you bump it, you don't knock it off, as you do with the suction cup types..which also hang down into the sink!! The flexible rubber hanging around the faucet is easy enough to move out of the way when you need the extra space.

It's ok at best as it gets dirty both above and below it.

My best advice on sponges, don't buy/use them. A stack of 12 dishrags will last years, dry quickly and are easily rung out for air drying. I buy white, inexpensive, 100% cotton Terry cloth bath cloths for dishrags as the "pretty" dishrags meant to match your kitchen or dish towels tend to be too thick for efficient washing of dishes. I buy off-brand plastic scrub pads without a sponge (they are not as harsh as original green Scotch brite) and cut them in half to scrub difficult surfaces and then discard as needed. I run those thru the dishwasher or spritz with bleach occasionally. They dry easily, quickly, and completely. I have a cheap bag of sponges in the garage for occasional painting technique projects. Sponges in the kitchen are avoided in most restaurants due to their propensity to harbor germs.

This test is for those who wash dishes with the water running constantly in a sink that isn't full of water. There is no room in my sink for hanging a sponge holder. And really, there is no room for a sponge - a good old-fashioned wash rag from Walmart does a great job. And after each use gets tossed in the wash for a wash in hot water & bleach.

I prefer to not have my sponge in the sink. No matter the holder, if I'm washing my hands or dumping a flower vase or rinsing off a plate of crumbs to go in the dish washer, the sponge keeps getting wet over and over again. Mildew city. I keep my sponge above the sink. The suction cup model may work with my backsplash, but they tend to fall in my experience. What's worked for me is a stand on the counter I put it on that keeps it dry. (The margin you can see @2:00 in the video between the sink and the backsplash.) Just a half-second squeeze to wring out the water and it dries in a few hours. My sponges break down after months before any odor or discoloration occurs.

Make a pocket cover for the sponge with a washcloth. Sponges & scrubbers by themselves are disgusting. The weave and holes in the sponges trap food particles which does not wash out. I sew a pocket out of a washcloth that has a flap and fold over pocket to close like the old fashion sandwich bags and put the sponge in the pocket. The washcloth cover washes clean while the sponge inside holds the soapy water for scrubbing. The cover can be tossed in the wash and the cellulose sponge replaced.

I rarely disagree with this fine channel. However, I am very disappointed this video appearing to be more of a low-grade infomercial to promote a certain product vs the higher quality data that is often found in your videos. Water retention data is not a legitimate source of threat in itself. You would better educate the consumer if your company a rather low cost microscopic analysis of sponges and examples of typical home use and storage vs this video. Imho, the best advice is to stick to banning use of sponges in your kitchen. If something needs to be scrubbed, this is my pick and I have NOTHING to gain by posting this. This is one of those products that is a bit more pricey upfront, but an overall money saver with longevity and safety. This can be easily sanitized at the end of the day in the dishwasher, but don't bleach it if dishwasher not available. If my dish rack is not out, I air dry it atop a cup in about 15-20 minutes. Everyone I have gifted these to threw away their sponges. I use paper towels, sanitizing wipes to clean counters, etc. Sponges are antiquated for good reason. In addition, they are absolutely banned for commercial use in restaurants and other places that serve food in the majority of the USA for good reasons, regardless of storage method. www.amazon.com/Odor-Dish-Cloth-Scrubber-Netted/dp/B00F0DZRLO/ref=sr_1_5_pp?crid=1QSD08UNZEPAG&keywords=sponges&qid=1706132590&sprefix=sponges%2Caps%2C125&sr=8-5
