1.) Departing from the Philippines
【☆】 Security and Customs Check - You should be at the airport (in designated Terminal) 3-4 hours before your departure. The check-in desks usually open 3 hours before scheduled take-off. Make sure to have your travel documents ready to show the guard at the entrance for security and customs check.
【☆】 Airline Check-in Counter - Go to your designated check-in counter. You have to show your travel documents (ticket, swab test result and passport). After that, you will be given a boarding pass which will contain your gate number and boarding time.
【☆】 Immigration Counter - Before lining up for immigration, you will have to fill up a departure form. Once done, proceed to the Bureau of Immigration window with your passport, departure card, and boarding pass.
【☆】 Final Security Check - You will undergo final security check before boarding, similar to the one at the entrance. Once cleared, collect your things and head towards your gate by following the signs.
【☆】 Gate / Pre-Departure Area - Sit by the correct gate and wait for your boarding time. Listen carefully to the announcement regarding the boarding process.
【☆】 Boarding - Have your boarding pass and passport ready to present to the attendant. They will ask to check your boarding pass to do a final check that you are indeed on the correct flight. They will then direct you to your allocated seat.
2.) Arrival in the US (Point of Entry)
At the port of entry Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials will take the immigrant visa packet and assign you an “alien number”. Officials will stamp your passport with this number and make a notation that you are registered for an alien registration card.
【☆】 First Stop: Primary Inspection. Upon exiting, you should enter the line for “Permanent Residents".
【☆】The first U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer you meet will verify your identity, then direct you to a designated secondary inspection area for new immigrants. This inspection normally takes place at the first U.S. airport at which you land, even if your ultimate destination is somewhere else. The officer will open your visa packet (sealed, unopened envelope containing your immigration file) and review your documents, so you should prepare your papers in advance.
【☆】Be prepared for questions from CBP officials. If the CBP officer finds a problem that can't be resolved quickly or believes you're being dishonest or are a security risk, you will be sent to a secondary inspection area for a longer interview.
【☆】 After passing the customs and immigration checks, you will undergo additional screening and you will be asked to complete a health form. If all goes well, your passport will be stamped to show your status as a lawful permanent resident.
