We held a Q&A night to wrap up our Kindred sermon series on Tuesday, April 17, 2013. Woodland Hills recently started moving in a direction toward Anabaptism and this series was a way to unpack what that meant for us as a church and to educate those that attend here about the history of the tradition.

I noted a mistake. He spoke of the Anabaptists collectively as pacifists by saying that they never used the sword. But there were some groups of them that used the sword just like other Protestants did. The Munsterites and the Batenburgers to name a few. Also, there were other groups of Anabaptists that permitted violence in relation to self defense and military conscription, such as the Schwertler Anabaptists. I know that the pacifist faction eventually won out in the end. But in the beginning there was considerable diversity. History is definitely written by the winners.

The fact that the non violent faction was the victor speaks volumes. God defends his own, he will not leave himself without witnesses, as individuals we die, but the faith endures. Nazis, Communists, a half dozen African tyrants and mob violence around the world couldn't stop the gospel, because if YHWH is for us, who can stand agaisnt? Imagine the witness that could be given if every catholic and protestant, instead of waring agaisnt one another, each saying "God Mitt uns!" Put down the sword.

I've noticed over the years, that THIS issue does NOT reside in the "public square" with either Protestants or Catholics. Always less than 10k views. Four hundred years after the fact. Always silence.

I found it odd, looking at an index of Luther's writings, that Luther said that the Papists and Anabaptists had things in common.

It makes sense. Luther was very not into the sanctification nor living the high baptismal standards. The anabaptists were very much into those things, likewise the catholics, at least in theory 😂.

Very interesting point: Infant baptism created citizenship. Please list the historical primary sources you used to arrive at that fact. Thanx...

Anabaptists maybe only consider part of the question . Ie if God has done the work ,what should our response be as his people.

Believers baptism was a direct threat to the Catholic church

Politics aside, to one who believes infant baptism is valid, rebaptizing those who have already been baptized is blasphemy. Since "We who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death," for a person to be baptized a second time, Christ would have to die a second time. The Anabaptists were opposed for holding Christ's death in contempt, and the work of the Holy Spirit in contempt.

April Chen ... Do the Anabaptist subscribe to any of the same doctrine as the reformers or Calvinism ? ... I find it all so interesting .
@jedfgross
@jedfgross 5 лет назад
RJ Hall no they did not. They held to non resistance baptism at conversion, separation of church and state, community, some more then others, separation from the world. Did not believe in eternal security, or any tulip points.

And the Anabaptists were the MOST persecuted of all religious groups!

Many Anabaptists denied the full humanity of Christ, teaching a doctrine called "Celestial Flesh." To be theologically correct Christian you need to affirm both 100% humanity and 100% divinity of Christ.

Infant baptism, confirmation & wearing catholic priestly garments is unBiblical. It's the practise of the roman & greek catholic Church which still persists today in some Protestant churches too. The current, protestant churches still needs a lot of reformation. All Protestant churches need the knowledge of the Power of GOD & the Scriptures. Upgrade. 🙏🙌🔥

You are lumping Protestants who were REFORMERS with Anabaptists who were “restorationists” not reformers because there’s a big difference The Reformers wanted to cure an established church not destroy it. The Reformers were brilliant men who had the Holy Spirit and translated the scriptures to the vernacular tongue and tried to reform the abuses of the Church which is different from what the heretic anabaptists who hated order, wanted to cause chaos and anarchy. Wanted to destroy the established Church and start a new one from scratch which is unbiblical because God promised us he would never leave us and that the gates of Hell would never prevail against us. Anabaptists and their “restorationism” are what spawned sects such as Millerlites,Jehovah witnesses,Mormons,seventh day adventists, etc.

Christendom?? You mean theocracy, where the religion dictateshow a state is run.
@chriscadman5715
@chriscadman5715 Год назад
flora4, that is not theocracy. You are mistaken in your idea of what a theocracy is, and in what is the basis of good LAW-MAKING. Historically and Biblically speaking a Theocracy exists when the One True God is the ultimate authority over a Kingdom that He Himself created. The ONLY nation that we know of in human history like that was 1st Temple Israel. Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing wrong with 'religion' dictating the laws of a society. The Jews have done that since Yavneh, post 70AD destruction of their seat of government (the 2nd Temple) and 136AD destruction of their national political leadership. The Muslims have done that since the days of Muhammad. Rome did it for centuries over nearly all of Europe. Just look through history and you will see what I'm talking about.
