MCC has every single emblem from every game from Halo 2 to Halo 4, with the exception of the Seventh Column and Marathon emblems for copywrite reasons. Curiously, the Tycho emblem from H3 ODST is in MCC, despite it being affiliated with Marathon
the only censorship was how Sgt. Johnson made it out alive in Halo Combat Evolved He doesnt want people knowing he and the elite he was hugging built a spaceship together powered by friendship and manliness then as a thank you, the elite shared a secret bigger than the rings themselves, he taught him what the ladies like
The bigger censorship (like in the whole UNSC because that knowledge would cause a panic and prob call for Sgt. Johnson's immediate termination.) is how he should have been infected with the flood virus a very long time ago. Long scientific Dr. Halsey explaniation short, it requires a working CNS to override, but Johnson's is not exactly in the best condition, like at all. Infact it's so bad he is lucky to be still a marine and actually has beeen infected with the virus but it can NEVER take hold or become rampant because of the wear and tear of being a Marine in the UNSC for as long as he has. He's lucky that it also cannot infect other people because it needs to grow using a CNS to become infectious. By taking memory and feeding on intelligence because the flood now, are actually the very primordial The Forerunners killed on Zeta Halo. Hell The Master Chief himself, came very close to being infected too, (The books really do help and I just wished the TV series would appreciate that kind of thing, and even just for a second dipped their noses into it. But they don't give two shits so they deserve nothing.) Lol you kids and your light hearted ignorance.
17:45 This one was annoying, tbh. We weren't allowed to use the dead body objects in H5 Forge maps in matchmaking because of this. Not a big deal, but it definitely killed the atmosphere for some Infection maps.
Tell me about it. I had made a Blackout remake/redesign that took place in the snow. On one of the buildings I had a jackel, grunt, and elite building a snowman. BOOM! No longer allowed to be used in China
Games should be confined to their world. If something makes sense in a game world but in real life it would be considered offensive, then it should still be in for the sake of the game world being detached from our own. If something is put in a game with no ill will then it should not be changed regardless of how the times change
Nah fuck that. Games don't exist in a different world. They exist in our wolrs and have a tangible effect on our world. And how would you determine "no I'll will" ? As if you don't have concrete rules for that, then bad actors will exploit it to push their bullshit
Agreed but try to explain that to the crazies in charge of almost every piece of art out there nowadays, everything is political and should reflect todays world in some way (boring, inclusive and shitty)
That’s when I realized halo infinite would be garbage I was 100% right it was a red flag also not being rated M for mature same with halo 5 teen rating like that would make more people play. People left so fast
Yea I knew halo Infinite my not be the best because if they will remove small things because of controversy I knew they will change things and I was right. Like no specific genders is halo Infinite, or all the history months and June is 2 months away we all know what's going to happen.
@@The_Patriotic_Berserker yep, this is why I stopped playing AAA games and play smaller games like generation zero because bigger company's are bringing the reality's that we get away from with games into our games like BLM, LGBTQ, Ukraine BS, Political stuff, and etc. We don't need this stuff in the games we play to escape that reality and not focus on those topics but they're pushing it on us and kids
@Hazy 83 its sad people can't even say the truth today. I can't go anywhere with out someone telling me lies even tho I know the truth behind them, its like they're scared to stand up for themselves
@Hazy 83 I’m inclined to say that’s the point to why reality is being shoved into fiction. It’s beneficial for those at the top, both politically and financially, to divide people at the bottom because while we’re at each other’s throats they can rob us blind and we won’t even fucking notice.
I have MAJOR respect for the developers of “Ready or Not.” The game is a realistic tactical swat shooter. The devs went to a big publisher who denied publishing the game because it’s “too realistic.” And instead of bending the knee and censoring their art, the devs fucked off and went solo… and it worked. I’ll never understand why publishers crack down on censoring art. Video games are a form of art. And if you limit the artists vision you get a worse product.
Yeah, no one would ever make a police SWAT game. Not like, say, SWAT4. Which Ready Or Not rips most if not all it’s inspiration from, right down to the “Bring Order To Chaos.”
I understand wanting to protect your brand but I will ALWAYS be against any form of censorship, especially of things that have already been said/done (you loot I shoot, swat being renamed and the removal of suicide for example).
This isn't really "censorship" though, censorship is when an outside entity FORCES you to make changes(I.E. the FCC), a game developer deciding to make changes themselves is NOT remotely censorship and honestly the titling of this video feels a wee bit clickbaity but I understand it's necessary to play that game to get the algorithm to promote videos.
@@jadedheartsz That's not the definition of censorship though. If someone decides to censor themselves willingly, that's still censorship. Self-censorship, specifically. It doesn't need to be forced.
Love it when companies have inside-jokey acronyms and euphemisms for stuff. I work at a TV station and we call the big screen behind the anchors the “BAM”, which means “Big Ass Monitor” and it makes me laugh every time I bring it up.
The only reason 10:08 is 'controversial' is because certain sacred cow protected groups don't like it. (which speaks volumes about them tbh) If virtual graffiti in a decade old game were suddenly offensive in the other direction, censorship would be laughed at, and rightly so.
343's censorship of ODST is absolutely pathetic and spineless. Games should be preserved as intended, not butchered to cave to the perpetually angry Twitter outrage mob. Censorship is trash and any company that does it should be called out for it.
It isn't just 343 that done this, loads of American companies had this unrest and honestly, with how Microsoft acts I get the feeling it was likely a decision by the higher ups there since Microsoft especially are quite vocal of this shit. American entertainment in general is in a really weird place since the unrest of 2020, I hope one day it does shift back to a better balance. But American entertainment nowadays almost seems more pandering to appeal to everyone now if that makes sense.
A lot of the cencorship issues from MCC and Infinite can be attributed to something called the "Scunthorp" problem in which a part of a word is flagged and the entire thing gets censored as a result. Another factor is that the algorithms used for many chat filters are a combination of general ones and are not manually set by developers, but rather reused or taken from other things entirely.
a constitutional democratic republic. very different from both a republic and a democracy. a very solid and intelligently designed governmental system, though not perfect as the current blatant corruption has been allowed to grow beneath the surface. our country needs some work.
Republic is a type of state, democracy is more about how it's governed. China is a republic, Saudi Arabia a monarchy, both countries are dictatorships. USA is a republic, UK is a monarchy, both are democracies.
I currently have a problem with a certain voice line being removed from halo 2. The ONLY reason it would’ve been removed is because “oFfEnSiVe” when it wasn’t. Plus it’s becoming political but anywayyyyy
I think its wrong to do this. The world changes, but the game as it was released doesn't. Keep your physical copies handy! Also I miss the large amounts of blood in Halos Bungie days. It gave you the sense that things were serious and not "Disneyfied" like Disney has done with Star Wars.
Censoring video games for things like "you loot, I shoot" or the police siren nameplate is complete nonsense. It is overtly obvious that the developers are not making political statements. Video games like Halo are isolated within their own universe. It is unjust and rather idiotic to apply the laws and reason of our current political/ social system to a made up video game universe. The whole point of playing video games is largely to escape from reality. It is sad to see that some fringe and extremist people in the gaming community see things like the quote or police sirens and call upon mobs of people who have no gaming experience to cancel them.
There's also the cut civilian execution animations in Halo Reach where the elites would have brutally snapped the neck of civilians and marines. Generalkidd made a video about it if you wanna see them.
I think videos on RU-vid are now n Even demonetized for using this word. That's ridiculous. Using the term suicide doesn't automatically glorify it or anything like that. But hey, a while ago I realized that American cartoons for kids can't use the term "hell", like it was a super bad word. It's bizarre how some words are considered a taboo.
@@darealshinji yep. A bass player I'm subscribed to did a cover of suicide and redemption by metallica and the video got demonetized. So he re-uploaded it as s-word and redemption.
This is honestly a shame to me. For this reason and out of apparently justified paranoia, I have kept physical copies of every single entry of the Halo and Gran Turismo franchises for their respective systems. Still seeking a method to properly preserve X360 media within my means, PS legacy preservation is a breeze..
IMO I think its a big misstep for 343 to censor content in the older games, but stuff like removing the police siren nameplate isn't really a big deal since its detached from the games themselves, and profanity filters should ALWAYS be optional, there is no excuse for it being mandatory in a M rated game.
This is why I appreciate games like GTA, and the south park games. They make fun of these kinds of censorship and how soft and sensitive people have become. Not that being sensitive is bad but when some can't take a small joke and whine about it, gets old.
how is censorship a heated debate? censorship is immoral because it takes away thoughts and ideas and art that peple have the right to hear the freedom of expression means nothing if someone cannot seek out or hear something with out consequence.
ngl, i kinda thought you were gonna talk about character desexualization in halo infinite. i mean, the lady commander for Infinite's multiplayer tutorial campaign has absolutely zero hips. there is literally nothing wrong with the female form in halo reach to 5. not sexual but clearly feminine. if anything, they should've done like what MCC did. enable the female figure to have a male voice and the male figure to have a female voice if desired. that way, the need to be gender progressive would be there. but nope. they decided to make all characters flat as a board regardless of gender. much worse than in halo 2 & 3. the androgynous figure was fine during those games we never experienced a feminine spartan before. So, we didn't care much about the spartan designs. After Reach, that changed. unfortunately, the toxic/trashy brand of feminists, that drastically alter the definition of feminist per their desires, undoubtedly complained after Cortana's appearance in H4. Even though the narrative of her being vulnerable due to the rampancy, which was reflected by her more curvy appearance, was very much the subplot of the game... 343 and Microsoft above them clearly felt fear and decided to clothe her for H5. Again, the narrative fit for her being clothed. she was now a "general" leading an army and very much not vulnerable. In Halo Infinite, the Weapon being clothed was fine because of what she was supposed to be. However, she was annoyingly flat. For Cortana in Infinite, they made her figure so undefined The Weapon looked better in comparison. if anything, they should've kept Cortana's character design from H5 but maybe made the clothing less bulky to reflect her mood having calmed as we saw in Infinite? idk. just, anything to maintain the feminine figure would be fine for all the characters.
Don't want to sound like a perv, but to me, it was changing the way Cortana looked in Halo 5 following Halo 4. By making her look like she has clothes on. When throughout the previous games, her older appearance was what set her apart from other AIs and quickly became part of her identity, making her unique. But then came Halo 5, and many (including myself) were a bit disappointed to see she looked just another typical AI. I know this may seem rather trivial to most Halo fans but she was one of my favorite Halo characters and when I was playing Halo 3 for the first time. I kept thinking when will MC and Cortana team up again to only see how broken she has become throughout the whole game. If anything, she was a companion done right.
I'm fully on the preservation side. I do not care if some people find it offensive, artwork deserves to be preserved in its original state. If you want to add anything to your consideration of it as the viewer that's up to you.
You appeal to everyone. You appeal to no one. If someone is offended by words. They choose to so they can eat this apology I wiped my ass with and threw it in the trash
If you're willing to stop playing a 10+ year old game over a little thing like that graffiti or Foundation's bit, then you're probably a really fun person to be around. I'm only 24, but I swear sometimes the crabby old folks are right when they say we're too sensitive nowadays.
All I'll say is if you're going to be anti-censorship, be consistent. Seeing a lot of outrage for one particular instance of censorship but understanding for others. Nothing in this video should've been censored. Artistic liberty is important all-around, not just for your political stance.
I mean it's justified. Sometimes people are going to be more outraged depending on the severity of what was removed. And in the opposite sense, sometimes stuff like say the Marathon emblems in MCC end up removed because of copyright reasons.
@@Robbie_Haruna I completely agree. I'd say most instances of censorship in this video were justified, but there are a lot of people outraged over one instance of censorship because of their political position, framing it as opposition to censorship entirely and not at all taking into account severity of the issue no matter their perspective. TLDR if you're going to say censorship isn't justified, that argument has to be applied to every instance of censorship along those lines, not just the one instance that goes against your political perspective.
A reply to the initial email that government official sent, the subject of which being “Tards?” Yeah I’d imagine that’s what the government official would expect
The "YOU LOOT I SHOOT" graffiti being removed is a shame. In Halo 3 ODST, there is chaos during the invasion. In this chaos, humanity turns against itself and the darkest sides of people emerge. Sadie's story in the audio logs conveys this in multiple chapters, and so does the corrupt NMPD officer in the campaign. However, most casual players won't get all of the audio logs and won't see the corrupt cop sequence. This little piece of graffiti quickly conveys the chaotic conflict among humans indirectly with a simple phrase.
Is it a shame though? Its literally one piece of graffiti that the vast majority of people wont pay any attention too and was replaced with other graffiti that serves the same purpose. There is no meaning or narrative or anything lossed because it was removed.
Let's not forget that 343 cut the final cutscene of Halo Reach before the message from bungie pops up. I can kinda see why, but it's kinda sad. Personally I think 95% of the times games should be left as is to be a time capsule of sorts
@@shoeboi4596 no they kept that one but in the final final cutscene where keys asks cortana if "we lost them" as it shows the POA approaching the ring like in the first halo message from bungie to the fans pops up, but 343 cut the cutscene right before the message could be displayed
Uh, of course they’ll remove the message, you can’t have a whole other company quote in another company’s product. That’s grounds for a lawsuit. Even though Halo used to belong to Bungie, it now belongs to 343 and Bungie doesn’t have any rights to Halo, so they had to cut the message.
"I NEED TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT A PIECE OF GRAFFITI WITH MY OWN EYES. THIS GRAFFITI.... IT MIGHT HAVE MADE A LIBERAL MAD ONCE... IT'S BEAUTIFUL" thats how yall sound
@@RatPunkGirlI think it's less about that specific piece of graffiti and more about the fact that they made changes to 10+ year old games just to keep some people from getting mad. It's one thing to change a small piece of graffiti that most people only looked at for a second or so, but I'm worried that someone down the line might try and change something much larger than a simple texture on a wall when the whole idea of the MCC was to preserve the games as they were for the future
I always prefer a game keeps it as it was. I think that changing things for modern viewing only produces a further tunnel vision similar to how Twitter recommends people to you just agree and gives you the option to just block those you don't. I get when you make a game you shouldn't antagonize your audience, but the game already existed in that state for remasters. There are people out there who actively look for things that will bother them. I'm not sure we should really hold everyone to their extreme standards.
Just want to point out that “you loot, I shoot” is not racially charged. It’s not about a certain people at all, it’s only about protecting one’s property and self from those that mean it harm.
Unironically. The people that claim to be most against 'racism' happen to be the people who see "You loot, I shoot" and think that it's about black people. Really makes you think.
@@travelingt9997 If someone breaks into your house in the middle of the night, they value your TV greater than they value their life, actually. It's not hard. Censorship is always bad.
I love the changes to ODST, really enhanced the experience 100 fold. Completely necessary and totally not catering to idiots. On a more serious note, these games are very important to a lot of people. It feels shitty that 343 felt they had to change stuff for the sake of being, "politically correct," in the eyes of a very loud minority of people. And no, before I get flamed by that loud minority, I'm not using "minority" as a discriminatory term. It's being used in the context of the amount of people who want stuff removed from video games just because it hurts their feelings.
It could just be me but personally I kinda feel like they went a bit far in some places I mean, they completely changed a piece of graffiti that most people probably won’t even take to much notice for AND makes sense considering what happened in that local it takes place it. Besides looting and shooting is a very common term in gaming to the point “looter shooters” are their own genera. Nobody is removing scenes from heavily racist, sexist and homophobic movies made many years ago so I’m really not sure why something as simple as a banner and graffiti needed to get axed. After all, is anyone seriously going to get offended by a PNG of police sirens over everything else you see in media? That’s my opinion on the matter
The climate is so crazy that even Disney is being pretty stupid by banning movies such as Peter Pan trying to say they're evil or something...no people are just making up reasons to be offended by beloved stories/characters.
@@KalebSDay I really hope this calms down one day, since the pandemic and BLM movement I feel like all American entertainment has to play it extremely safe and inoffensive. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart is the main game I've noticed for suffering from this. All of Ratchet's edginess is gone and he's just a complete goody-two-shoes. It honestly really upset me but I wasn't surprised Insomniac went that direction. Makes it extra confusing they're the ones making a Wolverine game. He isn't exactly the type of character that really fits their family-friendly vibe.
To me it's really just the fact that those movies aren't being remastered and re-sold for full price like Halo was. Even in cases where those movies are being put on streaming services, the creators will tend to have a pretty big warning at the beginning of it. And, Halo could have done that, but they didn't. For all intents and purposes, MCC was treated like a totally new set of games, and it should be held to the standards of any modern game released.
TARDS is still funny. It will be removed as soon as someone gets it to them. I hate when people go on about people being soft but for fucks sake they are making it easy to think.
When I talked on the old forums I actually self-censored to -blam!- with the exact same stylization cause I thought it was funny. Classic Bungie lore in general was really amusing
Probably to prevent people using terms like 420 or 69, yet I frequently see those in name tags anyway. But censoring all numbers is insane, since it prevents you from being able to relay useful information.
We should not erase history and pretend it didn't happen, it was the past, we need to understand that, we need to understand that we can grow and change over time, especially fucking 20 years later like come on, we dont need to change halo 1 just cause more than 20 years later something happened in real life
Catering to peoples offenses only Infantilize's them. Which is exactly what the people behind the censorship want. Its easier to control a bunch of fully grown infants
Why do they need to censor such small things like "you shoot I loot" or just a nameplate with sirens, in a game where the covenant glass Africa I don't think red and blue sirens are problematic 😂
Another term during matches that was changed for Infinite was Assassination being replaced with Back Smack. I don’t know if this actually happened earlier in 343's days as I didn't play 4's multiplayer or 5 at all
@@ShyNomad wasn’t it also similar in Reach? iirc when it started in 3, melee kills are called Beatdowns (with the fist medal) and back melees are Assassinations (with the ninja medal) not sure how it went with Reach but I think it’s fairly similar with how it goes with 4 and 5 too
@@jadedheartsz oh give me a break, this is such a BS statement. Most people don't give a damn if the character is well thought out and well written. For example, Sgt. Johnson is one of the best and most iconic characters in the Halo franchise because in addition to being a total badass, he was a well written and likeable character. He wasn't the "black guy" soldier, he was a badass soldier who happened to be black. If he was re-written as anything else, people would be PISSED. The issue most have isn't those kind of characters, but rather the shoehorning in of these type of characters for the only purpose being to virtue signal to the PC mob (which no matter how much you try, nothing you do will ever be "enough"). You talk about "alt-right trolls," yet people do the same thing if their imaginary "diversity quotas" aren't met. It's like there is a checklist: female character that unrealistically badass? Check. Minority characters who are so for no other reason than to say they're a minority character? Check. Same thing with gay/lesbian/etc characters - there for no other reason to check a box? Check. Again, I reiterate: most people couldn't care less if a character is a minority/woman/gay/etc as long as the character is well written and not just there to check a box.
@@bendutton17 Thank you. I feel like people such as our good friend here Jackson really don't get what the problem is. It almost feels like nowadays American companies are doing it to satisfy a quota. And because of that it makes it look very disingenuous ironically enough. But of course, we have people such as Jackson here that think we're bigot alt-rights just for saying shit like this. It isn't justified if it was just to make people happy on the internet. Man, America is so fucked. I think both sides are as bad as each-other to be honest. I'm not American myself, but I know I'm somewhere in the middle.
@@foodwich2132 I know what you mean, man. I live in the US and it seems like the entitlement here is worse than anywhere else. So.... none of these edits are for the passion of art. You have the removal of gore just to get a teen rating to make more sales even though Halo is popular enough to survive with a mature rating. And you also have the removal of "triggers" that may cause people to feel offended yet it is a video game about shooting aliens. Someone in the comments mentioned the "loot you shoot" would be the result of humanity turning on each other because THAT IS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. ugh. very good video but reality is aggravating. I haven't played video games in 10 years and I come back to see that this is what video games have become. Games were built different.
This inspires me to create an awesome IP, let Microsoft absorb it, then let them slowly realize that the whole time it was self referencing and incredibly impoliticly correct.
Halo, a game where: You can see people transformed into hideous monsters after snapping their own necks, enemies say things like "spoon me" or "food nipple," and assassinations sometimes involve sticking a knife into someone's crotch "Suicide" is censored
Ah yes... in the game franchise where humans are being massacred simply for being human, a police siren emblem (in a game where you fight alongside police) and deterring thieves from stealing your stuff during said massacre are the problem.
Funny thing about the word "Retard" that it used to be the politically correct term for the special needs. It only be game a slur when people began to use it as an insult.
honestly, looking back at everything, it is still surprising that halo was never censored in germany back in the day, considering that country's history of censoring shooters, especially in the same generation as halo combat evolved.
It's why stories and entertainment have gotten so poor. Indie games are so appraised because of the creative freedom afforded them. If all they did was worry about not offending somebody Bungie would have never created Halo.
@@jadedheartsz yes it is. They are being forced to because they will be ganged up on by Twitter. You do know threatening someone into doing something is still forcing them right?

Hearing and seeing the destiny refences took me back to when it was being teased. I really couldn't wait for it and was so disappointed with the results however, I did enjoy the nostalga that the "destiny awaits" poster gave me even if destiny was a meh game.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the extra intro/ending cutscenes that 343 tacked on to Halo 2 Anniversary as a tie in to Halo 5. They are still available to watch, but aren't a part of a regular playthrough of H2A now because they just outright don't make sense based on H5's plot lol.
man these videos need more attention idk how you pull this stuff outta the halo franchise but as someone who has been addicted to halo for the past 16 years, i just wanna say thank you guys and keey making these vods!
Personally, I think *all* games should be kept in their preserved states if they're old and get remastered or brought into the current generation. Because it's one thing if something was made in 2001 that is now considered offensive or ignorant here in 2022, versus something being made offensive in 2021 that is still offensive in 2022. There are just so many different ways people can or can not get offended and we can't cater to everyone, but if it's decades old, leave it alone. Because at that point in time, it wasn't considered offensive, so it's obviously not targeting you or any singular person in particular.
I have been watching your channel for a few years, I am amazed you continue to produce videos that are original. The ideas you come up with seem endless and varied. Really well done guys, just had epiphany on that and felt it’s worth mentioning.
Wow… people offended by a nameplate… a really cool nameplate by the way. And Halo bent over just like that and took it off? That’s so frustrating to me…
I really hate censorship in videogames. Its mostly happening so that the demographic can please all the snowflakes out there and to try and get into the Chinese market. I know I sound like some political ass, but it is the truth. Censorship just ruins games for many people including myself. You cant tell the best story or have the best gameplay if its all cushioned for kids. There's so many limitations that it strangles the life out of a lot of stuff. What ever happened to actually being M for mature or T for teen? Censorship goes beyond videogames, I know. A lot of my favorite shows and movies have been effected HEAVILY as well. I guess what I'm trying to say is that politics and and loud snowflakes shouldn't dominate expressive creativity no matter what it is.
This was a Blam! amazing video. Just started playing halo recently and got curious on it's entire history. Especially how it started in it's early days.
This is just the reason why i will keep all the old xbox halo games. Things get changed or removed. I have the mcc from steam but it's still nice having the original halo games that i used to play as a kid because when im playing the games i can easily see or feel the changes between old and mcc version
A big thing I think you forgot to mention is how they changed male and female designations in MCC to heavy armor and light armor or something like that.
Moreover, in classic Halo Reach, a male/female body was tied to a male/female voice, but in MCC they separated them so that you can have a female voice on a male body, etc.
As much as 1984 is a bit over done changing the past with completely separate context to suit the present day politics is super Orwellian so, no games shouldn't be changed to suit modern politics
