I believe the part about the label rep telling Vito, “Do you know what your problem is? You play too good. You need to start playing sloppy, because that’s what kids are into these days.” This was exactly what I felt about the grunge movement. I like Vito’s response with, “You want me to suck?” 😂 They didn’t lie about Vito being too good though. 🎸🤘🏼👍

Yeah I felt like that after the Grunge movement my high school music kind of sucked compared to all these great rock bands of the 80's and early 90's. The music stopped being fun and upbeat all Debby downer BS. You had all these rock gods in the 80's with great guitar players then in the late 90's and 2000's you had pretty much crap and that is being kind. I never had the chance to see Vito play but I bet he was great.

Being jaded and stubborn really ruined Vito. Seeing how the mid and late 90's etc were SO good to the 80's bands in the summer tour scene, it's a shame how White Lion was not in any of that. I saw group tours with Ratt, Skid Row/Poison and Firehouse all on the same bill. Vito was an amazing talent and there are people STILL trying to cover his work, which is a benchmark for a lot of players.
@maverick_trail
@maverick_trail 10 месяцев назад
According to Vito, he didn't miss out on anything. He didn't sell out to the corporate music machine like many of those other bands did. He wanted control of his work and wasn't going to compromise to make the "suits" happy. Nothing wrong with that.

@@YtuserSumone-rl6sw I respect that aspect, too. I just can't stand that he quit everything. I would have loved it if he'd just gone solo and morphed his career into a Satriani model, releasing albums, perhaps some guest singers or something, anything to expand his body of work. He'd have been a perfect fit on the G3 tours with Vai and Satriani. It's the sheer deprivation of his talent to people that loved and respected his playing style that bothers me. Even if he never played with White Lion again, so what? At least work with other guys, Greg Howe and others...anything.

I mean... there was a time when 'sloppy' playing was more popular and record labels are gonna try to promote what's popular so they make money. That said, record labels are absolutely not required anymore. There's nothing stopping a group from promoting themselves and becoming hugely successful without even having to deal with all the label's rules etc. RU-vid alone has made some artists famous.

Vito has set himself up perfectly to essentially print himself money if he ever wanted to start playing guitar again in public. This man cannot play a bad sounding note on the guitar if he tried. And the rhythm section probably was the best in the industry in the late 80's-- White lion has a ton or European demos on Spotify of basically all of their old stuff and the band was a lot tighter than people imagine. As a band they were certainly better musicians than most anyone else in that scene in the 80's and that says a lot. Really a rock band in a hair metal scene.

I gotta say Vito is a great player but his solos just don’t click with me for whatever reason. They’re kinda all over the place but not in a good way like EVH. Again, super talented guy

I respect vito's decision to leave the music industry for good. He needs to be where he is in his life.

I did both of those tours I saw Aerosmith white line in Biloxi Mississippi, and white line stole the show. Steven Taylor was a joke. Tyler was a joke. AC/DC show show New Orleans man. It was also in both groups today Aerosmith was one of the worst of the 300 concerts I ever saw.

That sucks, Vito was one of the best if not the best new kid on the block guitarist. He could hang with EVH, Jake E Lee, Randy Rhoades. Guy was friggin phenomenal. It's a sin he bowed out.

Shame, great band. I miss them. Big game and mane attraction were really good albums. I think their mamanagement messed them up by not booking them to tour with similar bands.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong, but didn't Vito leave to help his aging and sickened father? I know everything isn't true in the internet.

Damn shame he didn't release something solo. I would have got it. Play sloppy, yep, and then they wonder why nobody is making anything that you actually want to hear again.

Personally, I always thought Vito was better than EVH.

I think Vito did it the right way. It’s good to know when the party’s over and move on. Sounds like he moved on to more good things!

Mike was the weak link in that band. I’ve seen WL many times back in the day and Mike can’t sing live.

Its ashame to not have a band like this together. Even if they just did a few shows here and there.
