The number one mistake I see non pros make when finishing drywall repairs is choosing the WRONG knife. Find out if wider is better, and is so, when. Click the arrow to open the description for links, etc.
Drywall knives come in many sizes, and many materials, such as stainless steel, blue steel and even plastic. But we're going to focus on the size, and why it matters in this video.
NEW- I now have a brand new eBook to help you choose the drywall finishing tools AND supplies you need. This is a pre-order special and includes 23 pages so far, but will likely end up at around 40-50 pages. This guide will help you save money by pointing out tools that are more gimmicks, showing you exactly what you need, steering you away from materials that will waste your time and money, and much more. This will be a VERY thorough guide. Check out all the information now at: www.thatkilted...
You can find all the tools in our videos at our Amazon Influencer store. We also have drywall hanging tools, general tools and supplies, gift ideas and more. You can find it all at- bit.ly/GuysAmaz...

Just discovered using a wider knife and oh boy does it make things easier/better looking. I'm a total amateur but the wider knife didn't make the result as obviously amateur work.

What about on the flats or as we call them recess edges. Are they supposed to be flat or humped or thought flat or small depression. The knife should depress concave finish depending on which way you use the knife. I get it for butt joints. 6” for joint taping hot mud and all purpose larger knife 2nd 3rd coats.

I coat recessed joints with a 10 inch knife first and then a 12 inch knife on the second coat. And you will end up with a very slight hump a lot of the time but it depends on the sheet rock and the wall.

Sir I am embarking a whole house popcorn removal (over 2,000 Sq feet). Also, I have one room ( the biggest room🥲) that has 1/4 to almost 1/2 inch of knockdown that was Not knocked down😂. I intend to flatten it to look like proper knockdown. I am trying to decide what is the least amount of mess and most time efficient methods and tools. I will invest the money needed for the Right tools. Is it possible to remove the popcorn while leaving the texture underneath??? I would LOVE ❤️ to avoid re-mudding and texturing the rest of the ceiling. Thank you Sir for any guidance in advance Wings level and fly right USAF Veteran (Retired)

To get rid of actual texture requires skim coating. To get rid of popcorn, sand with a power sander and vac if not painted, or wet scrape if it's painted. Look for my popcorn removal video.

Thanks, found one. Sorry to hear about your problems. Donated. Hope things turn around for you and your wife. Great videos! Looking for one to remove a textured ceiling so I can repair a 4x8’ section. So hard to blend so it looks like the adjoining texture. Saw your popcorn removal video and will try that but this is not popcorn but looks more like tiny dogs teeth hanging down. I guess they used a brush to texture it. Anyway, Gods speed and good luck!

But the wider, the harder is it to use, I've seen video of pros in Europe plastering walls with 2 foot wide floats lol
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY
@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 4 года назад
Wider feels harder to use, but you will get much better results so look at like this. Spend a little time getting used to wider and get 5x better results, or stick with the easy to use narrow knives and never get quality results. I think it worth the effort.

@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY I'll start practicing with 10 and 12", the 14 and 16 are still very intimidating lol, but at 12"+, a trowel kinda makes more sense than knives
