Why Winter Has the BEST Character Arc in the Entire Series!! | WHATSISFACE 

Okay. I'll come out and be honest. Yes I am a Winterwatcher fan, and yes I did pause the video when you started talking why he'd be bad for Moon to post a long ass comment about how "he needed more attention" or "he needed more care" because I assumed you'd just go on to talk about how "Qibli is better." But I stopped and thought "I'll let her keep going. If I'm going to be a Winterwatcher shipper I need to hear both sides (Unfortunately unlike most of the Moonbli shippers I've met. Came across some very toxic ones and it wasn't an overall pleasant experience.)" But when you started talking about why it was better for MOON instead of why Qibli was better, I was shocked. I hardly see that with these discussions about this particular love triangle, so I'm glad I didn't post it and waited. It is true. Winter was not in a perfect mental state to handle a relationship, or maybe he could've been. Given time and attention, he could've been better. He could've learned and probably would've been happy with Moon and showed his book 14 development early on. Though he was still kind of antagonized a bit throughout the rest of arc 2 (personal opinion). But that's not what this comment is about. Winter probably could've gotten with Moon if she just stuck with him and chipped at his icy heart, but here's what disproves that and is my main viewpoint: Moon herself couldn't do that for him. She's more reserved and nervous and quiet. She doesn't like it when she has to be the one to interact and wants it to come to her. This is what QIBLI is good at. He gives her attention and makes her laugh and is outgoing and she hardly has to do anything at all, so naturally she'd go with Qibli; which she did. Now here's the solution: since it would've been impossible for Moon, based on just how her character is, to help Winter, Winter needs to find someone else. Obviously he can now because he had all that time to himself to become the sweeter dragon in book 14, but I still assume he regrets not being with Moon. He needs someone who will stick by his side every day and see things from his perspective and understand the horrors he had to face, even if he let go of his past. Moon can't do that, so I *really* want to see a Winglet or separate story where we get to see Winter more and he finds someone kinder than Moon and a little more understanding than her. Wishful thinking, but I'm hoping this hypothetical girl in this hypothetical book will make Winter forget about his crush on Moon and how he didn't get her, and how he got this new girl that will be by his side and love him genuinely.

I love winter, but my one problem with him is that he’s so overwhelmingly nice in book 14, like he’s a completely different character. He’s had so much development.

YOU GAVE HIM EYEBROWS YOU ARETHE BEST! There is a line in the books that says “Winter raised his eyebrows”. My friend and I have never stopped laughing at dragons having eyebrows to this day. Edit: I was rereading The Dangerous Gift and noticed that Tundra and Lynx are said to have eyebrows MULTIPLE times, so naturally my friend and I have concluded that all icewings have eyebrows, it’s part of their biology

3:38. Peril comes to mind. She’s my favorite character, but Winter is a really close second!

YES! Finally some Winger recognition he is one of my top 5 or so dragons and I love to see that people also appreciate his HUGE character arc and how it made him and the dragons around him a little more acceptable towards his no longer prickly self. And as far as the love triangle goes whether it was winterwatcher or moonbli or maybe even qinter! I still would have the same opinion of Winter and now that moonbli is canon it gives him a little more time to maybe find something or someone to focus on

Winter was always one of my favorite characters. It drove me crazy how people would see nothing more than just a grumpy dragon. Thank you for making this. His story hits home for me, and though my family is good to me, I know a lot of my thoughts were similar to his about not being good enough, and then becoming kinda bitter. (I wasn't quite at his level though, just a more mild version)

I do actually really like winter and qibli, even as a ship I support, my problem with the love triangle is moon, after her own book she becomes a side character, a plot point for development, her only purpose is for winter to come back, seeing the future and a reward and conflict for qibli saving the world, she has no character development after Moon Rising

I agree, in the beginning of book 6 he seemed aggressive. Then after the whole Icicle fight we get a small back story. Then book 7 comes out we start to fully understand how his family treated him. Winter never deserved that. He had a huge character development too. Then book 14 comes along and he is very kind. Gotta love Winter.

You have totally changed my whole Pov for Winter. At first I didn’t like him at all but now… I guess I love him. And I’m guessing the reason why I hated Winter is because I hadn’t read enough books to see his development. I only started WoF a few months ago and now I’m on book 8. In which I don’t see much of his development.

Winter’s book is what made IceWings my favorite tribe! Snowfall’s book was really good too I thought.

I have always loved Winter. I just knew from the moment he came into the book he'd be an interesting character (and I love angsty characters because they're just cool sometimes). I followed his entire development to the point where if anyone talked bad about Winter, I'd be quick to throw info at them, and it's nice to have confirmation that other people notice as well. As for the Winterwatcher thing, I agree that the relationship wouldn't be very stable at first. That's why when I think of myself as a Winterwatcher shipper, I think futuristically when Winter would be a much better person. I'm used to having the unpopular opinion and non-canon ship anyway, so I just embrace it at this point. Long story short because I type a lot: I'm a major Winter apologist and Winterwatcher is my second fav ship, but I've also taken careful consideration on how it would affect characters realistically and (as much as I don't like to admit) Qibli is a much better choice for Moon.

Honestly I completely agree with this winters POV was my favorite book in the second arc, and also beautiful art Cyprus I love how you draw IceWing s in your style! Also the way I think about it it’s kind of like a message that some people grew up in others shadows and so they turn out to seem very mysterious and grumpy like you said but really they’re just trying to be like that because they wouldn’t really expect for anyone to notice them over all great video!

I don’t even really know what to say about this, it’s like you put all of my thoughts about Winter into an 8 minute video. I agree he has one of the best character arcs in the entire series (along the same lines as Peril) and I feel, as Winter is my second favorite character, that this video is one of the only videos out there that doesn’t bring Winter’s character down and actually explains how he is as dragon. The one thing that really bugs me though is at the end of DoD, Winter is just kind of thrown away?? It’s like he has this amazing development and then his friends just forget about him and afterwards they suddenly don’t trust him enough to tell him what happened. That really gets on my nerves, and I hate that Tui did that to him. Anyways YEA GREAT VIDEO!! Sorry that kind of turned into a bit of a ramble XD

Omg I’m so glad that you brought up the fact that BEFORE HIS CHARACTER ARC, he would have been not ready for a romantic relationship. The version of Winter when he was still figuring out his life and breaking away from his family and tribe (even though his whole life previously was about being loyal to them) would not be ready for a relationship. But after his character arc, once he’s had that time to reflect and realize who he truly is, he’s grown and would probably be more ready for something like that. I got so lucky a few days ago. My local bookstore got an early shipment of book 15, The Flames of Hope. They accidentally put them out early and one of my friends got a hold of a copy! They took them down a day later. My friend let me borrow it after they read it so I got to read it early! I rate it 10/10 it’s amazing

I absolutely agree with this! also, something to add about the love triangle with moon and winter. if they were together, it not only would have been unhealthy for both of them, but it's also a reminder of the one relationship that caused the dispute between the icewing and Nightwing tribe (arctic and foeslayer). of course they may have taken they're relationship and settled it in a different way than arctic and foeslayer did, but we all know how badly it turned out last time, and not to mention winter being a total jerk to moon. I personally thought the both of them would have troubles with they're relationship, and how unhealthy it would be. Im glad that qibli and moon got together. they seemed like a good couple and they both help eachother in many ways.

I love Winter, his book, his character arc and growth, what i DON'T LIKE is how that character arc after book 7 kind of feel flat on it's face in book 8. I do love his character in book 14 and how he interacts with Qibli, Snowfall, and Lynx. Finally, some nice Winter content that isn’t only about the love triangle. He definitely is not my favorite character, but he is pretty high on my ‘favorite character list’. This video is definitely great, and every point you bring up is agreeable-and definitely opening to say the least. It was great to read book seven (even thought when I first read his book I hated him SOSOSOOO much.), and hear about the truly good choices he made. Just like you stated, he disassociated from the negative influences and learned to improve! If I were to read book seven and then book fourteen right after, the difference would be very obvious. With the love triangle, I completely agree. I am overjoyed that the dreadful love triangle is over. But, you can’t ignore it. I agree with what you stated about if they got together during the second arc it would be a pretty toxic relationship for Moon. As of the second arc, Qibli was the right choice. No argument necessary. BUT if Moon and Winter got together in the third arc, I believe it would have been a pretty positive relationship. I personally believe that if the two got together in the second arc, another problem would be present: at the time, I think that Winter would feel strained almost. In his thoughts in book six and seven, they are about what happened to Foeslayer and Arctic. From what I remember, he gets over this once Darkstalker’s spell was cast on him. The spell pretty much leads to him just being accepting of night/ice hybrids (*cough* other than Darkstalker.. *cough cough*), since he is only freed from the spell for half of book 10- which I would say is close enough to the third arc where he grows to be a changed little dragon baby

you spike have changed on your dragons SO much! it started from a normal spiky.... spike? XD. to now some cute round blunt spikes (In a cute/cool way tho!) It looks really cool with the design!

omg someone who cares! its been so long! Winter has one of the best character development of anyone in the book series, you cant change my mind, winter has been my favorite since i read book six. And yes, winter was in a deep stage of self hate and guilt and i sorta cringe at my younger self thinking that winter was better for moon (at the time) I really relate to winter because of all the shit that my parents are putting me though and i saw winter as a comfort character and i love him so much. I would die to see more of winter and i really wanted to see winter in book 15 but sadly that didnt happen.

This is ABSOLUTELY accurate! I LOVE Winter, he is such a complicated character that I can really relate to with 'Connor' from Dear Evan Hansen.

If winter were to have some sort of romantic relationship now I believe it would be with lynx because as you see from lynx’s memory in book 15 when winter try’s to save her even though they are just playing a game winter has always cared about her and when you see her in book 7 you can tell that winter has a sort of soft spot for her, this may be due to growing up together but I think (actually I just really want) that to morph into more romantic feelings, that would also mean that winter would have someone by his side if he ever decided to try and make amends with his family, if winter were to make amends with his family that would also be an amazing way for tui to show how much winter has emotionally matured because he would go from fearing them and trying desperately to prove himself as worthy of there time and appreciation to trying to have a healthy and stable relationship with them it would be best for lynx to be by his side then because she is also an icewing while moon is a night wing and therefore a sworn enemy of the icewings (maybe not to queen snowfall but to winters family she would be).

I imagine it would have had an (although less catastrophic) arcticslayer situation where one grew bitter and resentful over time. Obviously with arctic he couldn't just return to the ice kingdom because of the war and his own pride, but even without those stakes I feel winter would have clung like a leech to moon over time, hurting them both in the end.

I never really thought about him this way before. I saw him just as the grumpy one who got possessed by Darkstalker and almost murdered our precious boy Qibli. Winter, in my mind, was just there to feed book 7. But you helped me see him in a new light. Ty, Cyprus.

Nice breakdown about Winter. Before this I was more preoccupied about Peril's character arc, since it sorta spanned all the way until Book 8. Not to mention the whole WinterWatcher - MoonBli thing overshadowing him. But now I see that he really has come a long way. His character development I could say is comparable to that of Zuko from ATLA, an incredible turnaround from the royal overachiever to someone more empathetic and caring

I used to hate winter, like HATED him. After a few re-reads of the 2ed arc I now find him on my list of top 10 wolf dragons! Also, have you ever had in mind any ship for winter? ( moon, qibli, etc) also, do you think you’ll like book 15? I’m scared for it!

The thing about these heavy character development books (7 and 14) is that the character only gets better near the end of the book, and so for most of the book the POV is not the most amazing dragon ever (14 is my second least fav and 7 is my third least fav). Why I’m not counting Peril in ‘heavy character development’ is because Peril is already a dragon who has already gone through a good portion of the character development stage by the time book 8 comes around, and is an enjoyable character all the way through the book, and just gets even better through it (but I’m biased when it comes to Peril, so Peril may only be enjoyable for you-whoever’s reading this rn-later on in the book). Editors note-I really like both Winter and Snowfall by the end of their arks, so far to say their some of my most fav dragons in the entire series. Also, the icewing POV’s are the two biggest dragons for character development, which I think is due to the terrible rules of the Ice Kingdom. And yes, I really don’t like icewings lol.

At first i....... let's just say, wouldn't wanna hang with winter if I was in moon's shoes. But I began to understand Winter in book 7, and I like him a lot more then I did before.
