I’m both a live audio production and worship musician and I know the feeling but I love serving in my God-given gifts this way even getting to church on Sunday at the crack of dawn and not able to leave until 1:00pm.

When I observe the polarization of worship in my locale (relating to music and production): On one side, there's the reformed bunch: The "theologically accurate", lacking emotional intelligence, lacking good leadership, lacking trust in musical expertise, lacking a bias toward action, lacking an appreciation of aesthetic, having little to no appreciation of the arts and crafts, and abounding in church politics. On the other hand, the seeker-sensitive-state-of-the-art-technology-business-model-trendy-emotionalism people who are very works based and glorify burnout... These extremes make me hesitant to serve or lead because they ignore the parts of scripture that speak on leadership and arts.

In my world, reformed folks have some of the most artistically and aesthetically interesting music and gets pretty emotionally engaged.

“The worst job in all of Christianity” really gets on my nerves. I don’t usually comment on stuff like this, but my goodness. There are missionaries laying their LIVES down out there and we GET to use our GIFTING and practice our HOBBY to WORSHIP the Lord and lead others to do the same. Victim culture is dangerous. Jesus never victimized himself, and neither did the disciples. In fact, they did quite the opposite. If you’re reading this, please turn away from this kind of behavior.

Stupid comparison comment. That’s like saying “I’m sorry your mom died yesterday but there are kids in Syria who lost their whole families”. You sound like a “victim” of a toxic positivity cult culture hahaha

Also if you’re referring to it as a hobby, the chances are you put in little to no effort and aren’t good at your job. Try again.

I'm 40 minutes into this video, and all i've heard is WL have the worst job and its the hardest and longest hour job in the church. I haven't heard anything about doing the job for the right reasons, nor any advice to help other WL's grow and understand their place. I am not a WL, but a TL by default at my church, and i am also a musician. I likely spend 20-30 hours a week growing my craft, researching for upgrades for the tech, plus at least 6 hours on sunday mornings at church. Thats all voluntary and on top of my 40 hour job to pay bills and raising a family. We all are to do this as a SERVANT. WE all tend to forget this is our way to serve the church (which is the people who attend, not the building). Some folks are great at leading, teaching, cleaning, building maintenance, music, worship, tech, pre service food/drink. We all have a role to play, and its all for the glory of God.

Never confuse “servant” with “peasant”… Both serve but one understands their worth. Training & Development + Refined Skillset + Time away from your family + Time invested into others = A Job!

When you double the work you mentioned and keep it that way for 15 + years with no appreciation you will understand where people are coming from.
@chadgrieser8021
@chadgrieser8021 Год назад
@@prettysimplemusic I never said peasant. Also I have no worth of myself, but the worth i have is from Christ. a job is something you do because you HAVE to, serving in church in this capacity is not something you have to do. You are suposed to serve yes, but there are many, many ways to serve. I wager that most of those are more thankless than WL or TL. Jobs you get paid for. Serving shouldn't. The apostle Paul worked all the time WHILE still preaching the Gospel and never asked for anything to make his life easier, even though he said he had every right to ask, but he wanted to not hold that over those he was preaching/teaching/discipling to. Shouldn't we also do the same?
@chadgrieser8021
@chadgrieser8021 Год назад
@@AWDTH1111 trust me, i know as i feel that way sometimes. I try to remember that we are serving, and there are many less glorious ways to serve that don't get any attention from others unless it doesn't happen. I think of the apostle Paul and he saying in his epistles on different occasions that he works for himself outside of when he is preaching/teaching/discipling so he doesn't become a burden on those around him, even though he said he has every right do to so. I am far, far, far from being even remotely close to his bar, but i try to remember what we do and why we truely do it.

What is interesting is that they say the lack of production for the Asbury revival was what made it pure, but the irony is that there is an intense production science behind making things have that "lack of production" feel. You may see someone with an out-of-tune guitar sitting on a stool singing without any perceivable audio effects, yet you can be sure the every light is strategically placed, and there is a very expensive audio rig sitting just behind a curtain. It is designed to look like it wasn't, if that makes sense. Not saying Asbury was that, but it is a very real thing.

It’s only the worst job in the church at the worst churches. It’s also not a very good job if you just want to be a cool guitar player who leads adults in a sing a long. It’s a great job if you want to be a pastor who leads music and sees it primarily as a teaching ministry.

Production is usually there before worship arrives. and usually there after they all leave packing up. And that's not even a load in and load out church ;) Just sayin. although generally the volunteers are a bit easier to handle in production world. This is me now in production land after 10 years in worship land.

Before i even listen to this podcast...lol.....facts. Im almost 40 and ive been in music ministry since i was a kid. Living in the DcC, MD, and VA area, you get exposed to great musicians and different churches so we are well rounded here (Gospel, CCM, Latin, fusion, African styles, classical, rock, pop, etc). Pastors who dont understand music ministry will never understand the heart of a Levite or worshiper. Thats why a lot of use are frustrated and tend to leave are get burnt out.

I stopped at 20:40 when he praises Ratzinger (aka The Nazi Pope; the only Pope to ever resign from the seat) for "eviscerating wokeism" in the 1970s and saying that "Marxism comes from the South". Like, Karl Marx was literally a German Economist! How confused, alienated, and self-righteous do you need to be to say these things in 2023!?!?!
