I just started guitar about 4 years ago after an accident. I was 72 then. I found your channels about that time. You have been truly an inspiration. I’m still doing it. Got a good teacher. It’s given me a great amount of my life back-that I’m able to do in a wheelchair and do something I love. I’ve got about 120 Gordon Lightfoot sons on my IPad. And about 20 of yours. Thank you Bro. Cormier! I watch something from you almost every night. Stay with us!

J.P., I enjoy your videos. I agree with you 100 percent and am a subscriber who wishes he could play like you. I’m in my ‘70’s , have played for 60 years, worked physically challenging jobs in heavy construction and mechanics for over 50 years from the deserts of Arizona to the Rocky Mountains. But hard? Only physically. I wasn’t rushing into situations like the first responders and service men and women. I never took myself too serious but did quality of work. I subscribe to a number of channels on guitars, guns, camping, and RV’s. Your channel is great. I’ve unsubscribed from those who tell me how tough they have it. Thank you again

I'm glad you enjoy it so much. Keep it up. I've always taken my hat off to the lutheries who try to keep up with their repairs and builds while moving the camera in and out for details that viewers enjoy while editing it down after their normal day of work all for our enjoyment and knowledge. No matter how I add it up, for them it is a lot of work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to these people

For me, an “Excellent” 1989 Alvarez-Yairi DY-90 which showed up on Reverb one Saturday afternoon from what looked like an estate sale. Thank you JP for what you do. I first started watching your videos when you would review guitars and compare them to Martin guitars, and you would share your experience with the "holy grail" Martin guitars. You might be the best acoustic guitar player I've ever heard. You play with such passion and feelings, and it inspires me. You made a video about the Yairi DYM 60 HD guitar, that just stuck in my brain. I hit you up direct message and you replied to me and we had a really nice chat and you assured me that I would be blown away. On your word I bought one brand new. Got a good deal from a dealer in Texas! A few months later I wanted an OM. I had a Martin OM28 but it wasn't a great one, and it had some problems, including the neck reset but it still wasn't great and even though I loved it, I sold it. You assured me that a Boucher OM would be the best OM I could ever get. I found a dealer in Newfoundland that sold me new one at a really good price. What I want to tell you is your passion and love for Guitar and Music.. it helped me. I have had both of those guitars now for about a year and they are opening up and they are becoming so phenomenal. They started out being phenomenal but now they've morphed into this amazing organism of sound!

I think this is the equivalent of sports stars or music stars "retiring" then coming back a year later. Not to mention, some of these folks maybe "quitting" but you can be sure they aren't taking down their channels. They will continue to reap the rewards of all those videos and shorts for years to come. Look at RU-vidr Tom Scott. He released a "I'm quitting" video a few weeks ago. He's got over 6 million subscribers! His estimated earnings are between $65k and $1M a year! He gains about 200k subs a month. His videos are very elaborate so I can see why he's taking time off, the amount of time and effort required to make his videos must be amazing. They're not just simple talking head videos. Then there's Matt Pat, The Game Theorists. He's got over 18M subs. He's "retiring" in March. Yet he's got a total of 5 channels. All with millions of subscribers each. He won't be hurting for income. His videos feature heavy animation, so that can take a ton of work too. But once you reach a million subs, why not downshift into making one video a month if the grind is too much? Anyway, I'm sure RU-vid will limp along without these heavy hitters! LOL

Hey, from PEI. I truly think most of those "I'm gonna quit" videos, are taking a page out of KISS / Gene Simmons book! How many "Final Concert" shows did they do, and just kept coming back. I mean, come on FFS. Which actually stems from the fucking furniture store industry! I think Gene was sitting home one night yankin' his doodle dandy, and seen the hundredth "going out of business" sale commercial and thought, "What a brilliant idea!" Those idiots aren't going anywhere... they're just trying to make a new trend. That's my opinion anyway. Have some great shows bud!

Actually I loved doing it, it was a lot of fun doing live streams and talking with people. And I might do it again some day. Foolishly I stopped because of two crappy comments I got. One was from someone, who I considered a hero of mine that I really looked up to, who I thought actually liked me. The other comment was from a jealous groupie of that same person. 😅 I only blame myself for caring too much about what people think of me as a person rather then a half arsed musician.

I have more videos then subscribers 😂. If I get fed up with it, it's not because of my RU-vid not getting to a 1000 subs. It's because I found something else more fun to do. Lol...
@rmzzz76
@rmzzz76 3 месяца назад
The "taking themselves too seriously" comment has some weight. Every RU-vidr that I've seen who's put up an "I'm leaving" video puts an incredible amount of work into the production and editing of their videos. Probably because they've been told you must do that to keep subs high...Even if that is true, if at some point it's become more about money than the joy of doing it, scaling back production cost is always an option.... The reason that won't happen is pride. They've worked themselves up to a certain tier and they feel they have to maintain a certain quality or will loose respect or some other horseshit reasons rooted in either insecurity or being disingenuous

@danielgrenier2417

I disagree with your assessment, JP. It all depends on what your "shtick" is. I am NOT a RU-vidr but I do dabble in guitars (like you, I'm a huge Boucher fan with my PS-SG-161) and I also dabble in drones and photography. Now, doing what YOU do (i.e. play/talk guitar for an hour) takes pretty much that for you to "produce" - an hour +-. OTOH, a good one-hour drone video tutorial can take days of planning, shooting, location hunting, post-editing, sound matching, and on and on. BIG difference in time and effort. I see why you have no inclination to quit RU-vid. Why would you? Minimal effort, little to no cost, etc, but I can see why many of those RU-vidrs offering time-consuming productions would have enough in no time. To each their own but let's not put everyone in the same bag.

I think most of them are getting copy right strikes for instance Rich Beato and I dont think he can be monitised because of his content ,and I do agree with his issues in a way but look at all the exposure he is getting ,at the same time I think it is important to show older artists achievements and Songs because the new Music today seems to be way different in way how its made and arranged there are a few other platforms that gives you a little more freedom like Twitch and Kick but it will still come down to copy right infringements and thats because of old platforms Like Naptster that abused Artist and gave thier music away for nothing

There are a few RU-vidrs I watch who are very concerned about upping their production values, but with some, I enjoyed their earlier more "raw" videos as much if not more When I watch stuff on RU-vid, I'm not looking for Martin Scorsese, and in the RU-vid context, raw is great. If I follow you on RU-vid (and I follow you on RU-vid), it's because you have interesting content delivered in a way that's honest and entertaining. I'm glad it's easy and fun for you. For you, this makes sense. Here's a few differences. You have had a long and fruitful career that is not RU-vid. Many of these people have not. And to get to these huge subscriber counts, many of them have treated RU-vid production as a full time job and in cases like Mat Pat, that involves hiring and managing a team of people and running five channels (ranging from a few million with the largest one getting closer to 20 million). His thing has been a multi-million dollar enterprise on and off RU-vid. It's a different beast altogether. Or in the case of Tom Scott, he had a stable career and now has been working largely alone on much of these things; managing research projects and travelling all over the world having to find new and engaging topics. He has said for a while now that he has been considering retirement or at least limited output. In many cases, these people are not working within the skillset they cultivated before the RU-vid thing. For you, it's doing what you love and you're not as worried about the deeper metrics, putting out content multiple times a week and in different contexts. You have this tremendous musical skill that you cultivated and we come here for that and because we like you. For them, they are interested in what they do, but there is a bit of ego involved where they would rather leave on a high note than turn it into a more casual affair that runs contrary to the brand image they built. Your content is great, but these people don't have a thing like review a guitar in front of a camera and talk candidly in front of an audience. And so when they experience burnout from running these large-scale operations that require hundreds of production hours per video, they don't have something they love to fall back on for the sake of their art. So I would dare say, it's probably good that you don't understand. It shows us even more that you're doing this for the reasons you want to do it for and that's not changing. So yeah, it's not necessarily a lack of work ethic on their part. I am confident that you couldn't do what they do, and that's not a dig at you, but just an acknowledgement that being a "RU-vidr" isn't some uniform operation. And they definitely can't do what you do, even at a smaller scale. It's just a difference in paradigm and motivations.

All feelings are internally valid. No person can tell another person how to feel. Because all feelings are internally valid.

Guitar Head here. I think it would be awesome if Epiphone would make an IBG B-25 Natural. The Gibson B-25 was my first guitar back in 1968, and I didn't know what I had. What do you think?

Hate when a person says "I'm making this for you and support me as to make these videos" You got to make them for yourself and those who like your content will come but if you go out each day to make a video that brings you joy your doing it wrong. Catch your videos from time to time!

I think some take the negative comments personally. Also some have made enough money that they don't care.

I think its like when people say they are quitting Facebook, they want people to beg them to stay, its just attention seeking in my opinion.

It's only hard when they get to so many views that they have to hire employees to keep pace with the algorithm in order to maintain that many views, so they can pay those employees.

You almost have to say friggin well that it's likely mostly click bait...... at least all the ones that I have seen and watched. You know right after watching it that it was just click bait ! Oh .... and I thought that when you were at Rogers you would have dropped off your RKO 11 for me ! 😂😂
