Konami saw all those branded players using Gimmick Puppet Nightmare and concluded that what players really wanted was Gimmick Puppet support that is also a consistent FTK.
I mean IV’s strat was burn and alternate win cons by using his Xyz Effects to destroy monsters. It was always going to be an FTK if the strat was given support
@@mrbubbles6468even in bis first appearance I think IV still used the bp to end the game also it doesn’t need to be an FTK when cxyz IV can burn on the opponents turn
Ehhh in defense of Konami, Misc is a lingering effect so once it's been activated it's just a f you to your opponent while you can actually pop the field spell to make them being able to be affected again. Edit: changed continous to lingering
They’d probably make a link 7 first, since the highest right now is 6. Could be something like 5 monsters in your main monster zone, and 2 from opponent main monster zone. Would be really sick if it were untargerable, and gained the attack of everything. That would be like super power creep Underworld Goddess, but I honestly see no issue with printing stupid busted cards at this point. Like if it’s really that bad they can just ban it but why not just let everything be stupid.
You realize I:P exists, right? This would force players to only ever play with less than 3 monsters on the board until they can out it. This does not sound fun.
@@LadyTsunade777 i don’t wanna bully so im definitely not gonna say that it’s the dumbest take. 😭😭 But when it comes to situations like this we always gotta think about the problem card like halq with good tuners. I don’t think ip is cancer or even leads to it but I do think banning it and making the link 8 would be cooler for the game since SP would be a bonus card for going second and linking on the opponents turn could have more creative options
@@LadyTsunade777 With Yu-Gi-Oh, more so than in other card games, cards do not exist in a vacuum. There is no rotation, just every single card ever printed with a few banned, limited, and semi-limited. It's important to balance certain cards around others, or you have to hit those cards or the cards around them. But that's the thing, you can still make the cards, as long as you balance them around others. Making it so you can only use your opponent's cards on your turn would fix the issue.
Chimera honestly deserves a couple more fusions that are actually illusions. Ignoring the battle trick part of Illusions, they should really get a good end board piece that can 3 times per turn banish your whole field and bring it back to dodge removal.
0:42 "And what's he doing with his hands? What's this? Who makes that pose?" Literally Ojama Yellow makes that pose, aside from having better posture the arms are in the exact pose as he's doing on the card.
MBT missed that the pendulum monster negates anything in its column, unfortunately it can’t summon itself and negate something I almost thought it was good lol
So, imagine using condolence puppet's targeting protection on Gimmick puppet of leo, while also having the field spell out, and using dreary doll and terror baby's gy effect.
GIMMICK PUPPET FTK POGCHAMP GIMMICK PUPPET FTK POGCHAMP My best friend is a huge horus fanboy and these cards with horus as a rank-8 spam deck is pretty nuts
you want to tell me you'd rather jump through hoops to maybe mill something useful off of vampire instead of...oh, i don't know, using the four foolish burials the deck has or the 6 rotas/eteles? unalive urself@@r3zaful
@@user-jk7vp7vn2kyou want to mill at least 1 bloody doll or baby without normal summon, even then you want to use your extra normal summon for consistency tool like pathfinder or even another baby. Remember that bloody doll doesn't lock you from summoning gimmick puppet entirely it's only lock you into extra deck puppet. That's a dilemma for your opponent because you can bait your opponent before committing into your puppet show.
Gimmick puppet going from completely irrelevant to a possibly tiered threat is not something I thought would happen today. Or ever. But as a long time puppet fan I'm happy to see it.
If Yubel found a way to be viable, I doubt any deck would ever surprise me if it got support now. Freaking Jinzo or Thousand Dragon Turbo could suddenly get a card that turns their deck into a one card FTK and I wouldn’t bat an eye.
@@otterfire4712I was fucking flabbergasted when I heard MBT say Superheavy Samurai when discussing the past format. Like... the attack in defence guys??? (They were not being used to attack in defence.)
Astral World Tree is a mandatory effect, so "simply" get 5 link material worth of bodies onto the field, make it, get another 2 link material, put something on the opponent's field, Transverser it, somehow get Darklord Nurse into play, and then special summon a bunch of times to FTK them. Easy!
i don't care if you're a fan of the puppets or not, giving any deck a one card FTK as well as a field spell that not only acts as another starter for that ftk but also makes it difficult to interact with, is objectively poor card design.
It's great card design if your goal is to ruin the game for however long it takes to ban. The people at Konami trying to tank the game are doing a convincing job.
I mean thats kinda how the overall game design has gotten, decks not considered viable unless it has broken support making it a tier 0 threat until its banned, and 6 months later happens all over again.
The main issue I see with Puppets is having to interact with your opponent. Gimmick Puppet doesn’t have any in-archetype negates or really any way to interact during your opponent’s turn outside of Puppet Parade. Imperm, Solemn, any number of Traps can do things to it as well. It’s scary, and will definitely make an impact, but it’s also a glass cannon. I’m curious to see how it will do and what that impact looks like, and how it is hit later on.
I'm genuinely so happy they're printing non-fusions for a heavily DM-coded monster type but let's not forget the only actually competent illusion deck right now fusion-locks you
No, no. Gimmick puppet IS part of the light support - because it's played by an arcLIGHT brother. That's why the new xyz monster is quattro - the new cards focus on bringing out the edgy arcLIGHT and making your opponent experience his fanservice.
Veidos for the field spell, Shifter, Droll, Bystials, D.D. Crow, Gnomaterial, Relatiating, Flying and Contact "C" and hilariously enough Spooky Dogwood As far as I'm aware these are all realistic handtraps that would stop gimmick puppet as an FTK without having to side in some random anti-burn card
Unless Konami doesn't hit the tier 0 fire deck thats lining their pockets right now. Then wtf are you doing? You lose to FIRE if you play those and lose to Gimmick Puppet if you don't.
The Trickstar Tears cards reminded me that cursed bathwater craze which was going on 5 years ago. I imagine people would pay good money for idol tears.
Bob the World Tree! Bob the World Tree is real!!! Anyway, the Rank 4 Illusion monster seems really good, and Chimera decks can use it because Rescue Rabbit is a level 4 Beast that can be searched off of Big-Winged Berfomet.
They haven’t played the deck so they don’t know about the choke points or the consistency but it’s not great and we’re stopped by some pretty generic hand traps
Chaos Giant Grinder isn't even needed for the FTK, there's a different-ish combo that does it without him. It's a one card combo, by the way. You just need the field spell.
Consistent FTKs is not good for the meta. Having a card that just says "it's all towers" is not good for the meta. Just because an archetype has been dooodoo before does not justify extremely toxic support for it.
@@ragnaricstudios5888 Tier0 Formats are also unhealthy for the game, you are correct. I do not know why you think this is a gotcha. Did i indicate anywhere that I think the current format is fine?
@keinkanal7382, while i don't play meda, so i can't say for sure, but from what i can see it's basically an easy dead counter that any meda deck can get rid of quickly so i don't see why people care it's archetype only so it can't work with anything else and gimmick puppets for the longest time couldn't do shit so this new support fixes every problem besides alt wins have always failed so of course it would become an ftk as a result
While I agree that isnt bad card design, the Gimmick Puppet ftk is just not good. It dies to Ash unless you open field spell plus 3 extenders, it cant ftk without Field spell, it loses to random cards people are siding anyways like Spooky Dogwood, it dies to Shifter, Belle, DD Crow. And if it doesnt go first and ftk, it loses 100% of the time
I am becoming convinced that Konami’s goal is with every new release or support they want to create a 100% play rate deck so they can make every card omega collector rare and force the competitive community to mortgage the next 5 generations of their family to play the game for like 2 months
As a gimmick puppet enjoyer, this line will be annoying to play against but not really ban worthy. I don't see how it plays around nib, droll, contact c and will struggle going second. The fundamental problem with gimmick puppets is that they lock you into gimmick puppets xyz cards and can easily brick.
They dont really brick that much anymore but youre correct on everything else, no ftk line consistently plays through 2 well placed handtraps unless your hand is cracked, and the backup boards are simply not good enough to contend against meta threats most of the time
@@claraladuelliste5769 yeah you are absolutely right about the consistency being majorly improved. Would have to playtest to get a rough estimate but I will never shake the fear of drawing multiple dreary dolls in my starting hand and not being able to discard them
@@leonahlstrom4726 well i have great news about that specifically: we only play one single dreary doll and drawing it is perfectly fine because every single combo line can just use it as an extender special summoned off of chimera
I mean there's Ningirsu with the blade he yoinked from Avram right after Ib dies (the blade that Galatea uses). If there's a Mekk-Knight Avram, there should be a Mekk-Knight Ningirsu but I'm gonna guess it's also going to be an Orcust card if they ever decide to print this since shortly after is when he starts to learn about the World Legacies to build Orcustrated Babel.
As an Illusion/Chimera player with Infinite Forbidden we are also getting new level 4s so we don't have to overlay 2 copies of Mirrorsword Knight to make the rank 4
i love mbt's slow realization that this new gimmick puppet support is not just silly fun support for a bad petdeck but actually broken support that elevates the strategy to highly playable FTK material
