The Acrylic back is on the shop now! It's $19.99 usd. btw I didn't even know about this, would look too good next to an ID80 to not go for, simply for aesthetics 😅 had to jump in on it.
Hello, I am Mikey and I come from the year 2022. Just stopped by to send my awesome future vibes ~~~~ and to say that the future looks bright for you Hipyo!
I really dont get why so many keyboards dont have a numpad. I use the numpad on my keyboard nearly everyday. If its for gaming (dwarf fortress, caves of qud) or just typing numbers (adress, date of birth or random calculations). It's just so much faster.
Yes. The numpad is best on the left. Not the right. it gets in the way on the right AND you can't naviate anything if its on the right. The arrow keys AND the mouse are on the right already. Numberpads are optimal on the left
Me after two preonic builds with unused numpad keycaps, 26 spare switches leftover (sp star magic girls: 1 light, 25 dark), and a singular box jade trying to talk myself out of this scuffed build.
Why buy just a numpad? Because if your mouse is on the right, and your numpad is on the right, but you want to use both at once -- you have to move either the mouse or the numpad to the left side, unless you want to move the whole keyboard which comes with its own set of problems.
i got into an argument with my brother on why 60 / 65% keyboards suck without a numpad, he just found out about the mechanical keyboard world, and it got heated, and this months i found that i only use the numpad, to write down the OTP codes/phone numbers and stuff, but mainly to use the 3 on the numpad to record in pro tools cause the other key command in there is CMD - Space which is for spotlight since i have a hackintosh, after all of that, i just bought a 50$ 60% keyboard, the rk61 to be exact, and some 205g0 lube to lube the switches and stabilizers
Dang, that's actually a sweet form factor for an expanded numpad. Chuck on some symbols that are useful but missing from most keyboards, like root, infinity, and some of the more common greek letter, like pi and theta.
@@gambitman7158 presumably you'd be doing that in LaTeX, Word equation editor, or similar where you don't actually have to type the infinity symbol directly.

memes aside.. you might be onto something with the bubble wrap mod.. I imagine lower-end keyboard vendors could ship boards with lesser-quality packing materials/anti-static foam. Then ship the boards with foam cutting templates that the customer uses to shape that packing foam into pcb dampening shape! Higher end boards would likely still use higher end foam materials, sorbothane, etc. Just a thought!
If they're going to do that, I think it would be easier to print the cutout directions and shapes directly on the bubblewrap, and in a repeating pattern so you're guaranteed at least one good set no matter how the print happens to align with your particular piece of packing.
I was literally just thinking to myself "what is this vape effect" when "Idk what this is I just wanted to learn chroma key" appeared, brilliant timing
3:42 that cutout actually costs them more to make. You can see the machining marks. That means each one has to go onto a CNC machine to cut away material. It's not a molded piece like that.
Yay! I love keyboard town. What a chill place. So hey - I think you're doing a great job soldering with that fine-point iron, but that fine point might be making things a little more difficult than they need to be when it comes to anything larger than an SMD component. Use what works for you, of course - but I might suggest giving one of the flat-head solder tips a try? At least when it comes to switches, my flathead tip transfers a lot more heat to the pad more quickly than my fine-point one. (It looks a bit like a slightly chonky screwdriver end.)
“Nice” haha. Love it. You crack me up. This is a very enticing buy. Just built my own ID80 and now I want this macro pad to match. Haha. Very “nice” video sir, and I really like those hemp carry all bags.

I'm going to need a VIA tutorial ASAP🙈. I recently bought an ID80 (still have to build it) but have no idea have to flash a keyboard etc, since I'm new to this whole keyboard scene(I checked some video's of MechMerlin but it was still quite overwhelming) So I would highly appreciated a VIA tutorial. Love the content and kind regards from the Netherlands😄
That was really fun stream and the finished build is clean, but the struggling with the software was not fun... but i hope in the finished product everything will be perfect.
