2017 - 2019 can be summed up simply as this: Vince was so pissed that the fans rejected Roman Reigns that he decided to sabotage EVERY other wrestler on the roster, regardless of if they were involved with Reigns or not.

Also in 2017, a legend like Chris Jericho had to face such an insult by getting his main event spot at WrestleMania replaced by a couple of part-timers who can't even wrestle for 10 minutes

I think we can also include the following: 1. Brock Lesnar reigning as Universal Champion on a part-time schedule. 2. The 2019 Hell in a Cell match 3. Brock Lesnar winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2019. While the other competitors were beating each other up, Brock just all of a sudden runs to the ring, knocks Mustafa Ali off the ladder, climbs the ladder, grabs the briefcase, and wins the match. Brock Lesnar did NOT need to even be in the MITB match, let alone win it.

Man these were true dark ages😂 especially 2018 . NXT Black and Gold carried these years heavily with their much better quality product and it didnt help every call up to the main roster was dreadful and such a demotion cause they were most likely gonna be saddled with horrible material. Thank God we're out of the trenches

Let’s not forget that during the time that Brock Lesnar was the Universal Champion and not on TV, Jinder Mahal was the WWE Champion for some time. WWE was just not watchable at that time. 😂😂

I think 2017-2019 WWE has surpassed 1995-96 WWF as the worst period in company history. Nonsensical storylines, start-and-stop pushes, WWE deliberately burying fan favorites, and complete fan apathy. Hell, AEW was partly birthed by disgruntled ex-WWE stars. May that era rest is piss.

I missed most of this time period thankfully. I can't believe Vince made up a story just to rib Angle for having black girlfriends. What a piece of crap.

For me at least, 2017 & early 2018 was tolerable but following Wrestlemania 34, the product was legit unwatchable.

Because Vince Mcmahon had actually lost touch with reality by that point. He lost his ability to make a solid product by 2014 and by 2016 he had lost touch with reality altogether.

It's crazy just how much of Vince's fetishes and other perversions are reflected in so many WWE gimmicks and storylines through the years. The amount of angles depicting some form of humiliation is staggering. If you think too much about it, it really does start to kind of alter or affect the way you look back and enjoy a lot of WWE's history.

Mid/late 2016 had shown so much promise only for it to go poof as soon the year ended . But I’ll say there were dope moments in 2017 -2019 Daniel Bryan’s miraculous comeback , him paying it forward to kofi Kingston I liked the survivor series matches he and AJ had against Brock AJ styles and Kevin Owen”s feud over the us title , and Becky lynch winning both belts at mania 35 But it’s like for every good moment , they always found a way to make things silly again. Ironically the pandemic era was slightly better And 2021 to now has been enjoyable

2017-2020 was Vince Russo WCW 2000 level bad. This is why AEW was as successful as it was when they first started out because Vince had fucked up the product so bad. It wasn't until 2022 was when people started to be re-interested in WWE and that's because Triple H became the head booker. Triple H should have been the booker years ago.

I was the biggest Roman defender in 2016 but around this time I was truly becoming sick of him. They gave him every babyface storyline and it backfired. 2019 was easily the worst year. That being said I was kinda curious where they were going with the Jason Jordan storyline

From 1993 to to late 2016 I stayed up to watch every show/ppv live by 2017 it was an effort to turn my phone on to check the Wrestlemania results

you could honestly lump the pandemic era here too. the no fans thing was out of everyones control, but there was so much terrible stuff in 2020 through 2021. the karaoke segment on smackdown, basically every ppv in 2020, most of the cinematic matches were bad, a lot of shitty bray wyatt stuff, zombie lumberjack match, and more. only thing to really come out of this era was the bloodline.

Unpopular Opinion- Even though 2009-2012 era of wwe was corny it had really good moments and don't forget two of the best matches happened in that era (Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 and CM Punk vs John Cena at Money in the Bank 2011)

2015 to 2019 was a really bad time. This is why NJPW got a lot of rise & how AEW got started. That's how bad it was that after 20 years of no challenge WWE finally had competition. The title scene centered around: Brock, Roman, Seth, & sometimes Goldberg was really bad

I know 2017-2019 is the worst period in WWE history because of Vince McMahon but if I hear or see another "2017-2019 is the worst period ever" or "absolute trash," I am seriously going to lose it.

Even without all the controversy that came up around Vince, in a small way, it was a blessing because Vince McMahon really need to go. From a creative standpoint, he didn’t have it anymore. I’m not saying HHH is perfect, and I’m still not sure Cody Rhodes should’ve been the one to beat Roman reigns recently, But it’s loads better than what we were given back at this time!

Vince is a 70 something year old man , constantly stressed, and got average 5 hours of sleep if that on a nightly basis. Those are probably some clues as to why he was cognitively declining as a booker. Either that or he was way more interested in who he was going to SA or s**t on instead.

I've been a lifelong WWE fan and I stopped watching in 2019, it was unbearably and disrespectfully bad. I came back in 2023 and it's brought my passion back!

After watching Omega vs Okada at Wrestle Kingdom in 2017 , it ruined watching WWE for me. I knew nothing about these guys nor their story. I didn’t believe the hype but damn I was proven wrong. I completely stopped watching WWE in late 2019 and haven’t gone back since. Going through the weekly shows was a chore. Bryan Danielson had the amazing run with the hemp belt and the funny segments calling the WWE universe fat. Once Bryan was done, I’ll turn the channel because I found myself complaining most of the time so it felt more like hate watching.

The dog food stuff with Roman, and i wasn't even a big fan of his, was bottom of the barrel. This whole cruel joke on the wrestlers shit needed to die with the old man in charge and it seems to be gone forever now. Thank God. He drove FTR outta WWE and had them as goofs with Ucey Hot, fired ECW and killed his buzz and the whole Shorty G thing almost killed Gable's career.

He wasn't even a genius in the 90s either 😂😂😂 Only reason everything worked out is because he FINALLY listened to HBK and HHH to let wrestlers be more themselves than the gimmicks when Nitro and the NWO started giving them the belt 😂😂😂. They had been trying to get Vince on board before even Hall and Nash left. His money was on the line then so he had no choice but to comply. When he became the clear cut monopoly, he stopped caring what fans wanted and needed and ran things the way he always wanted and felt they should've been ran.

You are absolutely correct. I tried to get back into it around 2017 and Midway through 2018, I had hit my limit of crap. Vince was basically going against whatever the fans wanted, and it was beyond frustrating. So many nothingburger episodes, so I stopped for about 5 years. I did watch some NXT for a while, but once VKM took THAT over, I knew it was gonna be ruined all over again. This new era with HHH is light years better. VKM needs to stay away from it forever and ever.

I don't get it, what is it about making fun of Kurt Angle dating Black women that's supposed to be funny? What is the point of it? To me seeing humour in someone dating a Black woman is weird and could only make sense in the mind of someone who is profoundly racist. He dates who he dates that's it. I wish I was there to see how the Kurt Angle/Jason Jordon storyline came about.

After CM Punk left Vince and company refused to let wrestlers get over on their own. Stone Cold and the Rock got over on their own. CM Punk got over on his own. The best wrestlers become stars when they’re allowed to be themselves

I stopped watching wrestling altogether in 2009, and with good reason 😂 It’s gotten better though. I just started watching in mid-2023. Without Vince they can definitely make major improvements- much needed improvements.

i also kinda feel like in 2017 -2019 there's a lost generation of the wwe women's division when it comes to all of the women who were called up from nxt to the main roster during that time period (asuka ember moon riot squad (ruby riot liv morgan & sarah logan) mandy rose sonya deville nicki cross kairi sane zelina vega lacey evans the iiconics (billie kay & peyton royce) because at that time for the exception of sasha banks & bayley wwe were only focused on pushing charlotte becky lynch alexa bliss & ronda rousey while everybody else in the women's division had to stand in the background & fell victim to wwe's bad creative & bad booking. of course as time passed majority of those women would become champion like asuka became the only grand slam champion out of group liv morgan became a singles champion & a women's tag champion. and the rest became champions as far as the women's tag team championship

I have watched this video and several others explaining why 2017, 2018 & 2019 were the worst years in WWE ever. And dude i have mixed feelings, let me explain you why. And please i would love to get a feedback: For me the darkest and worst era in WWE was the Universe Era (2009 - 2014) , it's the era that fans LOVE to call ''PG-Era'' (by that perspective Attitude Era should've been called ''TV-14 Era''). Trust me i lived that as a wrestling fan, and it was a nightmare! TNA became my #1 Wrestling Show because i couldn't stand WWE's stupidity stupidity any longer; Iconic big events with names like ''No Way Out'', '' Judgment Day'', ''Unforgiven'' & ''No Mercy'' getting replaced by ''matches stipulations''. You got ''Hell In A Cell instead of No Mercy''. Talented wrestlers like Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase Jr, Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, Wade Barrett and the entire Nexus Team; getting all screwed up on rivalries with John Cena & Randy Orton, rivalries on which John & Randy ended up being the victorious ones over & over again. So my point is that eventhough 2017, 2018 & 2019 were hot garbage; on the flipside you still had NXT delivering match of the year contenders every month; unlike the Universe Era where the main roster was crap & ridiculous (like the years mentioned in this video a.k.a. Reality Era) and there was no alternative in the same company, i mean NXT on their early days was a contestants doing physical activities in a wrestling show, not the Gold & Black fire ass period like NXT from 2015-2021. Or is it probably me who's wrong because to be absolutelly honest i stopped watching WWE at all right after Wrestlemania 33 (the worst WM along with 27), New Japan Pro Wreslting became my cup of tea this time. So eventhough i was keeping an eye on WWE's storylines and great matches that people often talk about, i was an unaware to anything related to WWE back in those years. Until 2023 that i started to watch wrestling again, and found out Triple H is then new boss, NXT is an actual developmental show now, the Main Roster is filled with great matches again and organic & well executed storylines & story arcs.

John Cena got pushed for 9 years and never made a new star. Brock Lesnar returned after being away from the company for years and helped make Roman a star. Cena did a lot of damage to wrestling.

As a black woman, I'm VERY glad Vince McMahon doesn't find us attractive (I'm sure Asian women feel the same) because look at what he did to women he _does_ find attractive! And as bad as what he did to them on camera was, the stuff off camera was FAR worse. I'll take being metaphorically sh_t on over being literally sh_t on. Small favors. / In any case, Jason Jordan looks biracial (don't know if he is or not, but I could guess he is) and favors Kurt Angle, so (outside of Vince's childishness and bigotry) I don't think the idea of him being Angle's son is bad in itself. It was just executed poorly (because of course it was).

This is an interesting take though I would expand it ~a year both ways. 2016-2020 was the worst era of WWE and I am not sure it is close in the metrics. From a house show perspective, the 2016 reign of AJ Styles (along with the 2017 Mahal reign) were up there among the lowest all-time. Ambrose wasn't far ahead of them either but was at least close to New Gen numbers. The only bright spot was ironically Roman who the IWC hated at the time. The WWE was catering hard to that very niche audience and it clearly wasn't working and was boring to watch to the point there were notorious tarp spots you could see on TV. I'd say the end of that era was when they eventually put Roman on top in August 2020. That was when things started to turn around for the better for them.

I remember Kurt Angle having Jason Jordan take some pictures with Kurt and his family. They were also seen in public a few times together, to help sell the storyline. So Vince McMahon had this random dude do all this sht with Kurt just because he thought interracial dating was funny.....Yeah that's one of the most Vince McMahon things I've ever heard. Just imagine being Kurt and explaining that to your actual family.... "Honey why is that man following you around and why does keep joining in on family photos?" "My boss thinks it's funny"

During this time it was Declining attendances for main roster shows ,part timers running the show Goldberg ,brock lesnar and WWE trying to kill all there legends in Saudi yes im talking about Goldberg vs Undertaker super show down 2019 . NXT was better then the main roster 2017-Early 2020 was WWE at its absolute worse . Brock didnt defend the universal/WWE title at most shows .

In my opinion, WWF (it will always be that to me), hit it's peak in the Attitude Era and after almost losing the Monday Night Wars to WCW. They lost their only real competition. Then kayfabe continued to dissolve. And then they tried to slide back to PG and the sissy "wellness policy." It's been uninteresting crap ever since.
