Easy to learn if you are Bantu. Many Bantu peoples from Kenya down to all the regions of South Africa have languages that have common connotations of saying things. In Zambia you have Ngoni and Nyanja which has similar sounding words. In Malawi it would be Nsenga, Kenya has Swahili and so on. For many African people in the Southern parts of Africa it is easy to pick up certain words and learn the language quickly. In Zimbabwe, Ndebele would be the closest but ultimately, the click sounds are indeed the hardest to learn. My mother MHSRIP was Xhosa but we grew up in Zambia and she was always speaking Xhosa with her South African friends. My father was Lozi which is similar to Seswati (a language spoken in some parts of Swaziland and South Africa). I am not a fluent speaker of Xhosa but understand about 60-70% of it when it is spoken and I speak it quite basic. Most of family now live in South Africa and they have transitioned well and speak it fluently. I suppose also that having been around many different languages in Zambia, I am able to pick up languages easily. The easiest I found was Japanese and Korean. French and German are easy to learn, so is Spanish, but I find the Swedish and the other Scandinavian languages easier to pick up. Just gifted, I guess. I went to Greece and had I stayed there a few months would have been forced to learn it quickly because no one messes around in Greece. They speak English but everyone just speaks Greek there…forgot to add that Nigerian languages for me are the hardest. Can’t get my ear round that. So, West Africa is out for me. And yet I picked up Japanese so easily which has surprisingly intonations of African sounding words. Looks like the world was one and spoke the same language at one point…

@dimbwemazala8978
@dimbwemazala8978 10 месяцев назад
@@gideonmoseri4850 Lozi comes directly from siSotho. It was brought over Sebitwane, and the Bafokeng clan of the Kololo, who crossed the Zambezi river in 1838, moved into Western province Zambia, where they encountered and defeated the Luyi, who had arrived in the area from the Lunda Empire of the Democratic Republic of the Congo 200 years before. The Kololo ruled the Luyi for 25 years, until the revolt of Sipopa, who killed all the Kololo men, and married all the Kololo women to Luyi men. The Kololo women continued to transmit the Sotho language to their offspring, and hence the Lozi language, although it retrenched all the Rs from the Sotho language. The Kololo are the ones who named the great falls on the Zambezi river, Musi o tunya

Duolingo teaches its sister language, Zulu, now but with slightly inaccurate pronunciation. Also begin with pronouncing the word “isiXhosa” and getting the 3 main clicks down. “Q” might take you a while to perfect but I promise everyone gets it after some practice. I think the channel “Xhosa with Thando” or words to that effect does really nice video tutorials for pronouncing and conversation. (Also, the guy here pronounced “Xhosa” so wrong I didn’t even know what he was talking about at first so. Yeah 😂)

I'm Xhosa and can say it is a bit difficult to find material on the internet. Even Google translate is quite trash lol, for fun I see if it can translate random things and it's mostly innacurate. I feel bad for people who actually use it to translate English to Xhosa. I've come to know it really well (more than just on a "i grew up speaking it" level) by taking it as a subject from Grade 1 to Grade 12. But also really investing in learning it outside of school, so making use of libraries and Xhosa elders who had literary material in their homes.

Big misconception here🤦‍♂️the hardest language to learn on earth is the khoi or san language, whilst Xhosa in its purest form is a dialect of the Nguni language( same to the zulu, swazi and ndebele languages) the Nguni speakers that lived closer to the san or khoi incorporated many of their words into their nguni language hence the clicks that are present in the xhosa language today, even the name Xhosa is a khoi word

Xhosa is not difficult to learn. Some people might be intimidated by the clicks, but it is quite similar to Zulu - about 90% of the vocabulary is mutually intelligible and the sentence structure is exactly the same, which also has clicks but people think it is easier simply because the name Zulu is more familiar. Every day Xhosa is not made up of many clicks, same with every day Zulu.

I'd beg to differ, I think it is fairly difficult because there are so many intricate details in the language. Like how one phrase or word can mean two different things depending on tone/context.

@@FEMININELY_ME I speak both languages. Zulu is my home language. I went to school in the Eastern Cape and speak near fluent Xhosa. I know what I’m talking about. Zulu also has words that mean several different things in different contexts and tones - both languages have no accentuation marks in written form. Besides, a learner only needs to master the basics of every day Xhosa. The rest you pick up as you go along, just like with any other language.

I agree with you. Because there was this song I listened to. They spoke both Xhosa, Zulu and the other popular South African language. Xhosa and Zulu had the similar vocabulary. And shared similar vocabulary with Igbo, a Nigerian language. It was mind boggling. And Xhosa was closer to Igbo.

@@incognito7350 wow, that’s interesting regarding similarities with Igbo. I have always wondered. I know one word that is close and that is -ndu for human. We say ntu (umuntu/abantu). I wish I could find an online Igbo language course to explore.

@@baphithi You see my point. Because after listening to this song and exploring the lyrics. I explored more about the Bantu migration from Nigeria from the current place of Igbos and a bit upwards north of Igbos. And it is really disturbing when relatives have been made to hate, prey on as commodities, destroy and kill each other due to the present situation they find themselves in or whatever reasons they may have. * Not only "NDU". There are many many more I discovered. "BIA", "BUYA" - "COME". The list goes on and on.
