I thought you were gonna spill the tea on why Yale was the worst™️, but it actually was a super positive video and it made me feel inspired to work hard to get to a good university!!!

Actually the Ivy League is so deeply ingrained in society's mind that even if doesn't matter if it's better or not, it has some societal value and it creates and impression of anyone you tell "I went to a Ivy League school".

Interesting. I attended Yale 5 decades ago and nearly all the classmates I got to know well had some version of "Do I deserve to be here?" or "How did they let in someone as unusual as me?" or "This is not the Yale I read about." 50 years later I still don't quite understand what Yale was or is, but attending it for nearly three years (I left when my campus rock band got too big for New Haven) was perhaps the best thing that ever happened to me.

Relish the moment, it goes by so quick. My daughter just finished her second year and we are in shock that her days at Yale are half over already. We, as parents, are enjoying the whole experience as much as she ... it’s a dream come true. 😎 Have a great summer Josh.

Going to any type of highly-ranked university is likely to induce an emotional breakdown of some kind.

This was an awesome video! I’m attending UPenn in the fall, and you basically reflected everything I’m feeling right now. At this point, I’m pushing all of my thoughts about school to the back of my mind, and that’s only being amplified with Quaker Days more or less being cancelled this year. But just hearing how you went from feeling anxious about school to falling in love with it made me confident about my choice again and reminded me of that feeling I had the first time I visited Penn last summer.

“I’m also a magician.” I don’t know why- but, I can connect to that on a spiritual level.

I'm happy you discovered how you feel about Yale. I wished I discovered my place at Cornell earlier during my undergraduate years. I will tell you - time really does fly by fast in college. It doesn't feel like it when you're in it but make the most out of it while you're there!

As someone who goes to a state school, I wish I went to a more prestigious university. I’m a top performer in all of my classes, but the people aren’t motivated. I think I’m a fairly ambitious person, and like to do competitions but everyone just wants to take the easy route.

But this actually excites me because I am hoping to finally find a set of friends that are as driven as me and love to learn as much as me. Hey man, old guy here-class of '66 (uh, that's 1966/JE). Gratifying to hear you describe being taken care of in New Haven. I had a similar experience during my years there. It was the first time anyone had taken seriously what I wanted to do. Seemed to me that the admin/faculty were really trying to support what students wanted. And I know for sure that they saved my a** for sure on more than one occasion. And when it came time to graduate, I was hard to leave. I didn't go far: grad school @ NYU. LOL! Nice vid.

Really, thank you! Almost any "truth about this" video is just made to make views by saying bad things, and i really appreciated the positiveness of this video. I really think i'm going to watch it again and again in this year before the admission tests and all that stuff. I live in Italy and thinking about going in the US for university is really frightening and sometimes i get really anxious or emotional, but this calmed me down. Thanks again!

I have a question regarding just college in general, I have decently high grades but I likely won't get into Yale (like a 4.57 for weighted and a 3.9 unweighted). I took honors classes in the past and am taking 3 APs this year including AP Physics C, AP Seminar, and Calc AB. I'm really interested in taking engineering but I don't feel I'll be as prepared as any of my peers going in and I don't have anything to really kind of make me seen as a good applicant by the college administration. I'm a junior right now in HS, I ride mountain bikes and do races, and I'm also in XC and in Boy Scouts. I used to play basketball for my school but gave up on that. I like hanging out with friends and playing games online with them. I intend to focus more on sports these upcoming years but as of right now I'm not in varsity or anything like that, only JV. I want to start learning how to 3D design things on CAD systems like Blender to better prepare me for 3D designing in engineering and I was thinking that I could maybe even use it to make a lot of cool 3D printed stuff. I'm pretty busy this year because I took very difficult classes that are hard for me to have time to do anything else with. My senior year I'm still taking 3 APs but they're not nearly as hard so I plan on learning Blender and getting a part-time job during that time. I have a few things I can put in my applications this summer but it honestly doesn't seem like much compared to what it sounds like so many people do before getting into college. Everybody seems to have started a business, some popularity in social media, awards in multiple competitions, and so forth. I won a few races in mountain biking and got 2nd in a single math competition but compared to everyone else it seems like nothing. Do you think it's alright that I don't have as much of the qualifications that everyone else seems to have and if not, what would be your advice?

This is awesome Josh! One question- do you ever feel bored in New Haven/ regret not being in a city and having a ton of stuff to do around you?

For graduate school I applied to only two schools: Brown and Stanford. I got both and attended Stanford. I’m proud of my Stanford degree, but I’ve always wondered what the Ivy League experience would have been like, if I missed something important by passing on Brown.
