The most challenging style period in my life was when I retired early. I got rid of my classic wardrobe, thinking I would only wear leggings and baggy tees and tunics in my future lifestyle. I hated them after a short period and bought some Boho stuff. That was a nice change, but didn’t feel like me, either. Not until I went back to my classic-style, high-quality, basics did I feel content with my style again. I also fell into the fast-fashion trap during the endless ennui and isolation of lockdown. Companies like H&M have great current styles and prices, but I just couldn’t stand actually wearing those synthetic fibers or plastic shoes. I’ve been giving away bags and bags of that stuff, what a waste. I’m now sticking to my fabric and quality rules, if it’s not100% natural (or breathable plant-based) fibers (or genuine leather), I don’t purchase it. Plus, I must really love it, but that’s the easy part.
I loved all of the information you shared. The best advice that stood out to me is about your closet being a work horse not a museum. Hope I quoted you correctly😊
I watched this out of curiosity, it’s a problem I don’t have. I always feel like I have lots of beautiful outfits to wear, for almost any occasion short of black tie. There were times in my life when I really had nothing to wear, because of poverty.
When you made the comment "would I buy this if it were full price"? 😬 That's what I need to ask myself more regularly! Also the weight fluctuations for me in winter and summer are my issue. Not a huge amount but because I am petite a few kilograms makes a huge difference. I get so disheartened when my clothes don't fit. Great video Val, many thanks as always 😊 💖
@@ValKovalchuk After my pregnancy 2016 I prioritize my Child, and I just stop buying clothes so often. Also I am a slow fashion and zero waste fan (naturally also as a child) and I just worn out everything that I have 🤗
Thanks Gail! I had such a busy few weeks that I just couldn’t find the time to finish editing! 😅 but my kids start school tomorrow so I’m looking forward to being more on schedule from now on.
Since finding my clothes style more and more and keeping only those items in the closet that fit and those I like, I can find an outfit easily. I struggled for many years though. Also it helps these days that at home I often wear a "house uniform ", casual clothes all in black. I work 3 different shifts, with this kind of irregularity in my life I need simplicity. Especially this summer I truly enjoyed choosing an outfit, proof I am getting better with my wardrobe.
I always feel like I have super dressy clothing and I know how to put them all together for outfits. However, when it comes to casual I am hesitant of what looks good together without being too casual like I don't care!
I’m currently in the postpartum phase with my 3rd baby, but it has been 6 years since I’ve had my previous child. I remember going through this phase with so much difficulty in the past…. Just anxiously awaiting my clothes to fit me again and hating my body when they never did. This time around, after many years of curating my style and wardrobe, I’m much more confident in making purchases to meet my needs during this phase, and finding items that still fit my personal style. But even with that, I am still mourning my old wardrobe wondering if it will ever suit me again, so your words of encouragement really comforted me! You made me smile when you said to “love the body you have right now”. It’s always good to hear that positivity! Thanks for another great video! 🧡🧡
Thanks for the comment Emily, I can totally relate to that postpartum feeling of waiting on our clothes 😭 that’s great to hear that you are in a better place now!
I am so looking forward to wearing my fall clothes, but not quite yet. It feels like summer through October, here, in N.C. (And sometimes we’ll beyond). 😊
So nice to see you again. I have been working to upgrade my wardrobe to reflect my age, but also stick with good quality garments. My problem is that some of my basics, like blazers, are becoming more difficult to match up with newer garments. Perhaps it is due to shades, lengths, or shapes, but I am trying to "force" some of these expensive items to work. Any suggestions?
Hmm, I'm not really sure... Maybe take a couple hours and try on some of your old clothes with your new and see if you can pinpoint what the issues are.. Or maybe you will come up with some new outfits ideas! 😁
