Great video. Finally got my draw back after watching this video. I had forgotten what it meant to monitor my wrist and understand angles in the take away and downswing. Thank you.

@@daniellove4490 you unsubscribed from Mark because he’s friends with someone you don’t agree with? James isn’t really my cup of tea either but creating collaboration videos is a great way for both audiences to see knew faces. If anything what you should take from the collaboration is that you enjoy Mark more than James. I just don’t see the logic but everyone’s different.

My coach said to me on my first ever lesson - "I will not fix your fade/slice.. I will turn it into a hook and fix that" and now I hit driver sooo much straighter and my irons are far better little draws.

I got so frustrated with my lack of distance, ball striking and fade that I scoured the internet until I found someone that could explain how to fix the problem in simple terms. I finally found a video where the instructor explained that lofting and de-lofting the club happen when you apply, or don't, apply torque to the shaft. After I understood the concept it was trial and error to figure out the swing path and amount of torque required to either hook, draw, fade or slice. After some practice I have become more proficient being able to get better at hitting draws and fades as needed. Oh, and that video I watched? The instructor was Mark Crossfield.

Thanks for validating yet one more variable that I have learned on my own regarding wrist dynamics! What you have shown in a few minutes are some of the best experimental tips to be tried on the range. Often once you can identify the extreme physics you can learn to moderate the wrist bowing into a shot shape that is an acceptable draw. Nice thing is you know exactly what you did wrong when you forget and slice one that just validates that you left that shot with your wrist loose and face wide open!

This was the most comprehensive understandable explanation of the factors that influence shot shape I have ever seen. You debunk some commonly misunderstood concepts that can lead to trouble. It is amazing the impact of bringing one factor to the forefront of ones' conscious awareness to influence our swing and the resulting ball flight. I think everyone can relate to the experience of feeling an epiphany only to later find out that we either misunderstood or overemphasized some factor and it then wreaks havoc on our golf games. You didn't just clarify all the factors of influence, you explained how they are integrated and influence each other. An amazing achievement that is so valuable, I am not going to watch any more videos and instead focus on digesting the incredibly dense information in this video by watching it over and over. The only problem is, that you have stripped me of the excuse of not understanding and forced me to accept responsibility and I hate you for that!😒 Thanks a lot Mark.🤨

Just starting to get the draw, watched Phil Mickelson say he tucks in his right arm, so my left, to create it so I applied that feeling to all my clubs to create it. Usually goes straight but occasional draw. Also strengthened my grip and closed the face a touch as a correction. Thanks for all your tuition Mark.

I watched one of my driver swings the other day, wondering why I couldn't hit it well. My club path was good, club face was closed, but I realized I was holding onto my lag way too long. A year ago I had a floppy swing and had no clubhead speed, but I over corrected and now I tend to release my hands way too late. Love that you pointed that issue out in this video!

I have really struggled over the years with the driver with rather too many blocked slices per round. With lessons my swing has changed to being much more neutral but the blocked slice remained, and then I had a lesson on wrist angles. It completely changed the driver shot almost overnight. I still need to do more to bed the feeling in properly. Now I just need to learn how to stop hitting the ball out of the heel of the club!

I've subscribed cause you hit more balls in the first 2 minutes then most of the so called experts do in 10. Good explaining the physics behind different shots. After all, its no different then billiards, its all about how you put the jazz on the ball
@danwhitehurst9592

Great face to path explaination! In my instruction experience fixing a persons path is the easy part. What is the challenge is that people learn how to swing hard before they learn how to release the club faster than their club head speed. I teach a 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock swing at slow speeds with a mid iron and have them hit a ball about 50-60 yards and just work on rolling the club through and hit a hook to any degree. I tell them to work that swing longer and still slow, then speed it up then work it up to the driver. I love your breakdown here of how to understand why it happens. Especially for people who learn by knowing why rather than just telling people to do a certain move. Great video.

Wow this cleared up a mystery for me. I am trying to get better lag and I have been getting big push fades and this vid explains why PERFECTLY. Basically my hands are too far past my body going through and I am not releasing the club head early enough. Thanks Mark! I am going to work on getting my handle in a neutral position and releasing the club head better at the bottom.

This helped me a great deal. I knew about turning the face and aligning for whatever shot is planned but a lot of the time, from the top of the backswing to beyond impact my swing is just a blur. So today I just concentrated on getting the face to where I would like it to be. Played 9 holes today and hit all the long fairways after some good groundwork on the the driving range. Hopefully Tomorrow gives me as much joy as today did.

Mark, I play off five but have been hitting it weak and right. Literally this is the best video i’ve seen on youtube re understanding club path and where club face is during the swing. I was hitting driver 230/245 yards… this range session ball flatter and carry 265 - 285 finish. THANK YOU

I drew a ball width line on the top of my driver. I tested the concept by putting a piece of white hockey tape on top and going to the range. This helped me visualize my club angle and path while I learned the muscle memory.

Outstanding video explaining the dynamics of creating different ball flights. Very helpful. I am intuitively a fade player. I taught myself to hit a draw when needed but I realize that my mental conception of the golf swing is a fade. I feel the flight of the ball and the soft landing as I hold the clubface a bit open through impact. Drawing never feels right to me but I appreciate the lower more penetrating ball flight when I need distance. Different horses for different courses.

It took a combination of fixes to stop my slice off the tee. I bought tees that automatically set the hight of my ball at the same spot every time. I strengthened my grip a little. I set up with the ball a little more inside my left foot. I make an effort to keep my left wrist flat at the top of my swing, I swing slightly in to out. I also count so that I have a consistent tempo 1,2,3,4. I also have to relax and release my wrists on the downswing and I have to commit and swing relatively hard. It sounds like a lot, but I mostly concentrate on the tempo, releasing and swinging hard. I am a high handicapper but I'm getting better and hitting it far and relatively strait has made golf so much fun.

I've never heard any golf coach suggest that deliberately hitting a "bad" shot could be constructive. But in this series that you seem to be doing lately, learning the extremes speaks volumes to me. During the last few videos around this 'learn the extremes" idea, I feel that I have been able to identify the individual components of my swing and how one relates to another. I've coached a number of other sports at various amateur levels; cricket, rugby, squash, badminton, skiing, and climbing and thought that I had some awareness of my body actions in those sports. BUT I have never thought of teaching the extreme errors to learn a better technique. Thank you for this eye opener. The golf swing seems to be one of the few sporting activities that can be broken down into positive and negative to find the optimum. Clearly not a good idea to teach bad climbing or skiing technique but I'm away to my simulator in the garden to try out this approach to adapting to my new driver.

mark its tough to lose a fade as confidence makes you try and steer the ball so you correct your swing but on the course its allowing yourself to hit that release . I have corrected my slice by getting an 8 degree sim and turning it to 10 so closing the face, its given me confidence as so had to now hit a slice i am gradually able to work up to hitting it to the right of the fairway with confidence as my miss now is left but more controlled on my miss than the weak puffy slice. Great vid, lots to work on as it is the face not the swing path for me.

This is some excellent stuff! So much confirms what I've have slowly beginning to realize after hitting hundred of balls with the driver. Years of slicing the ball to where recently I would only hit a 5 wood from the tee and said enough is enough. Controlling the club face much more important than swing path and yes I have been one of those with the ridiculous looking waist high flat swing trying to hit a draw. Why doesn't anyone teach to just have the club already closed at address and just have student maintain that position versus manipulating the wrist during the swing?

Before that, I had been trying to "flatten the plane" but I had given up because it was ridiculously inconsistent. Mark, great and informative videos as always. I am one of those players that hits end out with the open club face so it is a disastrous push slice that is unplayable. I'm looking forward to giving a try working on my wrist angles, but I think the big key for me is letting the head get past the hands as a feeling may help. I've always heard people say swing out to in and close the club face, but I've never been able to figure out how to close the club face. I'm hoping this is an eye opener
