i coudn't get a job for past 3 years because i refused to get vaccinated against covid. is it still a requirement to be vaxed in the sf bay area tech scene?
Not finding a job destroyed my life. I graduated in 2012 and didn't have a job for 10 years. I went crazy and my health deteriorated. Without a job, I couldn't move, and not being able to move, meant I was stuck living with my parents. And living with my parents meant I couldn't date, and not dating meant I didn't have a girlfriend. I missed out on my prime years and youth due to the job market. California is the single worst state in the nation, and I never wanted to live there in the first place! Had I lived in Texas, I would have already gotten a government job right after I graduated.
posting ghost jobs should be illegal. and wouldn't the other employees eventually know that ghost jobs were posted when no one is hired for a long time?!
Don’t know about you but I never look for job openings in my company and they rarely show up where I can organically see it (like another annoying LinkedIn email notification telling me someone in my network published something). Only times I’ve looked for job posts was when a company was hiring my supposedly new manager. And if the jobs are posted by external recruiters it’s on their website first and then shared on Indeed and the name of the company is not provided.
I read that one of the reasons why companies display ghost jobs is that it is an efficient way for companies to collect data about job seekers, such as how many are willing to work for them, who their are and where their live. It is legally very borderline thing.
I have 10 years experience in warehouse management. The last recruiter who interviewed me, mentioned that is intermediate level 😅. I think we need to stop working and break the market.
When I took economics back in college my Professor said "How do you increase the number of jobs available? You cut full time jobs, turn them into multiple part time jobs, cut benefits since they are part time, and hire new blood constantly thinking they're get a full time position and cycle through them. You think this is crazy, but you'll find out that any company will do anything to ensure they can't pay you salary or benefits."
Especially when they have a 'buddy' relationship with government for tax cuts and preferential real-estate. The Government is VERY complicit in this problem. Get rid of the mega-corporations.
I wouldn't mind it as much if people could buy independent insurance at competitive rates. I would rather get paid more and be able to tunnel the money into something I control that won't disappear when I leave my company. I have no insurance right now, despite having a decent paying job because I missed the cut off period for the year (even though the insurance didn't even kick in at that point). The insurance also sucks. I'd be able to buy it like my car insurance.
I've submitted over 357 applications since June 2023. I got two offers March this year and one of them is a decently paying, hybrid, and most important of all. FREE DENTAL! I'M GETTING MY BRACES. I'm now a wannabee Data Engineer. Keep your heads up whoever is out there still looking for jobs. You'll get there sooner or later.

I have 3 college degrees...a masters in software engineering, a bachelors in business, and an associates in computer information systems, aws ccp certified and 8 years of professional programming experience....i can barely get companies to send me a snarky rejection letter saying 'I don't fit their requirements' for jobs that I have everything they are asking for. yes..i've worked the grill at mcdonalds, publix deli, night clerk at a hotel, grubhub, etc., all AFTER graduating and having years of experience. it is FUCKED UP OUT THERE...to say it will wear you down and make you just want to give up even trying to find a job is an understatement.
This isn’t just across industries in America, this is an international issue. As costs rise, jobs to in a matter of seconds and people with literal university degrees and diplomas are left jobless.

I was a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Piano Performance. I was repeatedly laid off and underpaid as an engineer and found that working as a piano teacher was much more lucrative in my area. 2020 shut down my piano studio so I starting working as a delivery driver. A few years later I got my CDL and drive large tanker trucks doing local work and get paid more than the average tech worker in my area with further room for higher paying jobs in the future. I’m working on my side businesses as well so that hopefully I can go back to working for myself. The trick is to just be patient, flexible and go where the opportunities are. It definitely doesn’t always work in this economy but that seems like the best strategy these days.
nobody checks any CVs. I dont know how to find a job anymore. I ve sent many resume and CV and edit them specific to the job description and everything. There is not even a rejection email that is not automatic!
This AI game is such a colossal waste of time and a glaring example of today's corporate incompetence. "Here use this tool to trick recruiters into thinking you spent more than 60 seconds applying and here Suzy from HR you use this AI tool so you can post on Facebook all day instead of doing your job and evaluating resumes." Like it is literally 2 liars giving tips on how to lie to each other. It's just sad and incredibly stupid.
Oh and don't forget if you ever leak how bad your employers are and other employers found out you spoke up somehow, chances of you getting a job get slimmer.
The only way I got a meaningful job was by personal connections. That's it. The relationships that you develop with college mates, coworkers, and others pays off. Because they help you get into the door. But personally, I'm done. I'll find another way to survive with the help of family. And I'm ever so grateful I never had the cojones to start a family. God spared me that hell. Amen.

I'm 35years old and graduated in summer 2023 in a program called multimedia integration in Canada. I specialized myself in UX/UI design and applied for jobs for 6 months. I gave up in january of this year, created a facelss RU-vid channel and I was just accepted in the RU-vid partner program two days ago. I kind of intergrated several things I learned at school into video production and it helped a lot. And yes, I used a bit of AI. So yes, you can use whatever you were taught at school for yourself.
There seems to be an abundant of ghost job postings where companies are just farming resumes to collect data for insights to salary ranges, job functions, demographics, and etc, with no intent to hire.

Hey Tina and viewers. I am not in the tech industry, I am actually a truck technician. Been watching this channel for a few years now and think that this channel is some of the best content on RU-vid. What I found with my trade is that resumes seldom work. You may have to resource a friend or some one that you know that already works in the trade you do, or an adjacent trade person related to your type of work. Most hires are hired because they have an in already. Someone who knows someone kinda thing. Not sure if your trade is the same as mine but a good chunk of my contracts are procured by reference. Keep your head up people, you can do it.
Hi shubashkamta1509 knowing people doesn't always help either. I worked for 14+ years in the tech industry my first job was in 1998 before that I was even helping people with their tech on AOL(members helping members) . I was laid off from my last job in August 2022 from a MSP I was a helpdesk/tech support and have been reaching out to my work, family, recruiters, etc. and they have either ghosted me or told me if they hear anything they will let me know. It's been about 2 years now.
Yeah that’s also how it works in Tech. The other way is recruiters reaching out to people on LinkedIn. That’s actually how I got my last 2 jobs. My current company also offers “recruitment campaign” to employees: we refer people and get 4000€ if they get hired are still here after 6 months.
I can vouch for this. I work at a warehouse and the last two guys who were hired are a friend of someone who worked there, and then later on that friend's brother also was hired. People don't want to take a risk on people they don't know. They'd rather listen to the opinion of someone they already kind of trust (a current employee, for example).
Also with hands on (god forbid I say male) industries. simply showing up and saying: "hey, I don't know much but am keen to learn if you're willing to give me a chance" will go further than you can possibly imagine. The blue collar space is screaming out for keen motivated individuals. Have you called a plumber or electrician recently? Ever wondered my construction projects cost so much? It's because qualified tradies are in hot demand. No one wants to employ another dance or classics major. The economy needs people with practical skills.
It is high time that people should understand that networking in person is a real thing and should be taken seriously . networking online is bs why would anyone or anybody trust someone unless extremely reputed or something like that . And all the good jobs with good pay are filled with references only that's the reason why top college students always get good jobs through their network or alumini which they do not even post outside it gets filled almost always with references. These online job boards give massive reach to the companies but in reality they are still in favor of companies and etc etc u know the thing now . Regardless of industry networking is important.
Love how HubSpot is the sponsor of this video. Went three rounds with them before they sent generic rejection on a position they keep REPOSTING month after month. Terrible professionalism
I hear ya. I applied for 80 jobs and it took like over 2 months for a place to finally hire me (and NOT be a scam job from Indeed, lol, I'm glad I dodged those bullets).
I had an HR rep send me a link to officially apply for a job position on the company website, after passing a resume screening. She sent me a link for the wrong position at the wrong store. I didn't find this out until the phone interview with her, which she was late to, so I had to call her to initiate. These are the gate keepers of jobs. Smh.
lol I feel ur pain I applied to a Burlington store who claim they were gonna call me for a phone interview never called, ended up calling myself just for them to to tell me to call back cause it's too chaotic to conduct one and when I finally got an interview the questions were so stupid and unrelated to the job, yep HR are full of morons
I applied for many jobs 3-5 a week. I only got two calls for a interview in a three months span. The interview didn't go any where. So I apply to a job I didn't think I fit the criteria. Got a interview and was hired. Didn't know they train and paid for all my certificates, to get the job. It was being a caretaker. I guess they needed help. I pass the interview and the training and the 5 certificates, that I needed for the job. Been with them for 6 months and doing a awesome job and liking the job.
@@djay00009 I got an email asking me to pick which days I would be available for an interview. So I told them which days. They still haven’t responded and probably never will.
Basically the economy is so inequal now people on mass are becoming gig workers. This is like going back in time to the days when everyone served a small ruling class. People with 4 year degrees and 20k plus in debt should not be working these kinds of jobs. Its kinda insane that this doesn't make people more politically active as there is something really troubling. You can have a society with high trust when the stock market is largely still booming for share holders and bond holders but everyday people are struggling. But I imagine people are going to vote for the same people this time around and things will only get worse.
I feel bad for anybody attempting to currently do gig work. That ship honestly sailed in 2022. Work volume was already hitting record lows by January 2022 and they never picked back up during the Spring and Summer that year. I ended up wrecking my car September that year, but it was a wake-up call regardless. There was no money in gig anymore. I still talk to people that currently do it and it's dog-eat-dog at this point. The only people making money are people that have created a client-list and are working as personal taxi's or delivery drivers undermining the app. Pretty much all the gig workers waiting around the fast food restaurants disappeared because there is no work available.
To get a entry level job in 2024: - Beaten Bobby Fischer in Chess blindfolded - Been a shot caller in Arkham Asylum - Be able to divide by 0 - Must have fought at the battle of Hastings and slayed a dragon single handedly - Played and completed the Hellraiser puzzle box
This is my situation. I have had a bachelor's in comp science since late 2019, but right when I was hitting the market, on top of all other issues, Covid hit. So in the following years it really didn't go anywhere trying to break into the software engineering field, I ended up working whatever I could find, remotely. In 2022 I did exactly as was mentioned in the video, and went for my master's degree, which I graduated with in August 2023 with a 4.0. I have been unsuccessfully job hunting trying to break into software engineering while using side hustles and help from friends and family to make ends meet. I am completely at a loss as to what to do anymore to try to succeed and have any career. Thus far I feel like getting my degrees, even with an outstanding GPA, has only succeeded in wasting my time, and putting me into massive debt. This is on top of everything from food, rent, gas, etc all getting way more expensive with inflation.
Each year you have hundreds of thousands of Indian/Asian people moving to the US to specifically get a tech job (you might have seen some of them during your master's degree lol). And it's not gonna stop, they will keep saving money in India and try their best to get a software engineering job in the US. This can only get worse as the Indians accumulate.
It's sad that even with a 4.0 GPA, it's so hard to find a job. The system is rigged against us. I used an AI tool during a few interviews - it felt a bit ethically gray, but it helped me get through those knowledge-dump quizzes. I'm now in a great position, although it's frustrating that it had to come to that.
i just wanna to say it’s absolutely terrifying and jaw-dropping crazy that nowadays you need to go through different AI tools and programs to run your resume through to actually be noticed in an AI hiring system and actually get in contact with a real human…
Degrees are worthless. I make 120k a year and only have a highschool diploma. Spend your money on industry specific certifications. They will pay dividends when compared to a useless degree. Experience is king.
Hmmm, i wonder if this is related to the fact that each year you have hundreds of thousands of Indian/Asian people moving to the US to specifically get a sofwate job (even in times of crisis like now).
@@AL-kb3cbjesus dude you've responded to like every other comment with this bitching about indians. Grow up. Its not indian people, its our corporate overlords. I think if companies understood that if they hire and train someone, they will have a long term employee. Demanding years of experience is stupid because if someone has experience and they are applying that means they’ve already done that work and chose to quit at some point, hinting that they don’t want to do it long term or don’t really have an interest in it anymore. I have seen the most ridiculous requirements for the simplest jobs too. You have to have a bachelors degree to take inventory in a warehouse these days. A BACHELORS DEGREE TO PROVE YOU CAN COUNT…. wtf is wrong with companies anymore? Between no jobs and companies having unrealistic expectations there just aren’t options and people are struggling to just eat. And to top it off, they only want to pay $18 an hour. How are we supposed to pay $1,200 a month for rent, $450 for a car note, electric, groceries, insurance, phone bills, child care on $18 per hour? All while having 30% of our income taken in taxes, paying for health insurance, a retirement account, a savings for emergencies, daycare, etc.? What the fuck is this world.
Don't have children. People look at them as an emotional choice but they are a HUGE financial choice, a self-imposed ball and chain if you will. By not having a child you don't need to pay for daycare or schooling. 2 live as lean as possible. It sucks but you got to be frugal on getting all of your basics down as much as possible. MVNO, unplug all of your devices before you leave the house, start maxing out coupon apps. Jump through hoops. The car you get has to be electric. It is markedly cheaper in the long run from both a cost per the mile and maintenance perspective.
I like that advice about being kind to yourself, and this is something I am trying to do. What is the real killer right now is the pressure from other people in my life who don't understand, and seem to not want to understand no matter how much I try to explain the situation or share information with them. To them, I am a worthless loser who needs to just flip some magical switch and suddenly be employed.
guys I get turned down for jobs that pay $300 a month. I have a bachelor's degree, I know 5 languages and have 3 years of experience. what the actual fuck
I have three masters degrees in math and physics and ended up dropping out of PhD program in astrophysics bc I fell like I was falling into the same traps you described on this video. No regrets whatsoever, I’m now pursuing indie app development (iOS) and I feel better than ever. I worked for a time as a backend developer for a major tech company and even that wasn’t for me, the corporate life sucks. I’m glad that now I get to work on my own apps without someone telling me what to do.
The thing I want to caution about upskilling is that it doesn't work in a lot of industries because they want another employer to vouch for those skills. That means gaining them on your own often doesn't mean much because they have only your word and no history. It'll still be good for your own growth and skillset, but it likely won't make job-hunting any easier because the companies know anybody can just say they have a certain skill.
Yup, it's an absolute bonkers chicken and egg problem. No matter how much upskilling you do on your own, you can't get employer-vouched proof of your skillset because a relevant company won't hire you without an employer-vouched proof of your skillset. I've learned this myself. Networking seems to be the one way to at least get looked at, but it's still difficult if your resume doesn't show that relevant employment proof. Why does the job search process need to be so pointlessly frustrating? 🥲
I was on another job/recruitment advice channel, it started off well, but a few hours later it was so depressing. Glad clicked on this site @Tina, you put things into perspective. So many people commenting they have multiple degrees and no job. For sure this current situation makes you think twice about quitting, even if your job isn't great. You just know that you'll probably be out of work if you do quit (it's easier to get a job if your already in one). Recently I've been lacking motivation. Companies also know the currently job climate so they'll ask more of you knowing you don't want to loose your job, but in the end, they'll still fire you if they need to cut costs. Wars a pandemic and elitist greed have got us to this point. What will the world be like if this continues for another year? Riots and disorder on a global scale?
Danielle Booth DiMartino and David Rosenberg are financial consultants. And they're saying that unemployment rate is higher than advertised due to stale data. That isn't updated to reflect real world values until months later. Unemployment is not a sedate 3.7% it's steadily edging up over 15% since the lockdowns. They haven't replaced or rehired the positions lost since then.
It's flipping nuts to me that it's a "long-term dream" to get a home. I'm on the younger side of gen x, and feel despondent about the shit environment you youngbloods have to deal with. My wife and I got married out of college, rented an apartment for a year, then built a house. There was a fairly standardized playbook when I was growing up of how to be financially secure. That seems to have been turned on its head and I don't see how the current trend ends anywhere good.
10,000 job applications to get 1 job. and I lost it 3 months later because they were expecting me to have equivalent experience of my coworker who is 20+ years older than me

Post-pandemic, large companies who receive PILOTS (Payments in Liu of Taxes), have started hiring H-1B/H-4 employees over US workers. This lowers the wages across the board. More supply of workers = less demand = less wages. It causes a ripple effect in the housing market as no longer can employees depend on longevity in the workplace. Bouncing from job to job, with periods of unemployment, is becoming the norm. The risk of taking a lower paying job as the applicant ages, increases. Health care benefits become a higher priority than salary. Therefore, it decreases the opportunity for home ownership, forcing people into rentals. Bad deal all the way around, with the root cause based on superficial population increases, far exceeding the natural birth rates. Lower birth rates are also tied to job instability.
And yet the United States is the only country in the world that's a free for all like this! Try to do this in Mexico or Italy or Costa Rica, they don't want you! Way stricter immigration and worker laws everywhere except USA
As seen in other comments, it seems the niche jobs are the way to go. I graduated in Dec with BAs in Linguistics and Music, nothing really meaningful from any tech jobs like computational Linguistics but boy have I been getting offers left and right from Music jobs. Just had another interview earlier which has gone to an in person one. Now I have 2-3 in person interviews Monday. I would say go for niche jobs even in the arts.
I recently found myself in a tough spot after getting laid off about a month ago. But I hustled hard and managed to snag a job within just 3.5 weeks, and get this-it's with one of the top 200 companies in the world! Here's how I did it, alongside the usual online applications. I was no stranger to rejection-I must've applied to over 480 jobs. But I knew I had to do more than just submit resumes online. So, every day from Monday to Friday, I hit the pavement, knocking on doors at 8 to 12 companies. Of course, there's an art to it. Mondays, though? I learned the hard way not to bother anyone before 10:30 am. They're either in meetings or gearing up for the week. From 10:30 to 11:45 am, though, that's prime time for morning visits. Lunchtime? A no-go zone from 12 to 2 pm. People gotta eat, right? Afternoons pick up again from 2:30 to 4:30 pm-people are more receptive when they're not rushing to head home. Tuesdays to Thursdays? Pretty much the same deal: mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 am and afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. I found people are generally more open to chats during these times. Fridays, though, folks are itching to start their weekend early. After 4 pm, it's best not to bother them-they're mentally checked out. It took some trial and error, but this strategy paid off big time. Meeting people face-to-face, showing my enthusiasm, and being respectful of their time-it made all the difference. So, if you find yourself job hunting, don't underestimate the power of pounding the pavement. You might just land your dream job like I did!
I once put the cURL of a server trace to that, and it caused the little program they're using to compare resumes to crash apparently. I imagined how frustrated those HR gremlins were and laughed myself to sleep. They put pre filters in those fields these days, sad. Luckily, you can still embed trackers in pdfs.
Yep. I recently applied for a job that I was a really good applicant for. They posted the salary range 58-99. I requested 86, thinking they would negotiate down a bit. Boy was I wrong. Ghosted.
I really like your matter-of-fact presentation of common sense. It's very refreshing. I tell young people I know to watch you and take what you are saying on board. Also, I have been talking about resume collectors and the Ghost jobs they offer for years. Many of the collectors try to act as brokers or intermediaries for crap jobs that no one is taking. This is called the bait-and-switch con game!
I shit you not I was looking for a digital marketing job and it was a bakery that wanted a digital marketer that could do all the works- analytics, seo, content, etc AND create new and bake French pastries. 😂
I have to wonder if the information they get through hundreds or thousands of job resumes and application information is being sold to other companies. I don't know what the law is about that, or if there is a disclaimer at the bottom of the application that states they have the right to share this information with other entities. So much now is "information harvesting" for commercial purposes. If you have applied to many companies, have you found that your spam folder has exploded, and that you are getting more solicitation and scam calls?
This started after lockdowns lifted. It goes all the way down to fast food jobs. Since 2021 I've been jobless, mowing lawns to get pay. I've used lots of tools, and even got help from people that fine the process easy. I've sent out over 90k job applications in that time. This worse than what you think, and its going to get worse. Something needs to be done!
150? I sent out 400 resumes and got 5 calls over 6 months. 2 were for temp agencies that didn't actually have jobs. And, before one asks, I had a couple different resumes focusing on different things, and it was constantly tweaked. I was also living in NYC
I have a bachelors, several certificates and recently did a complete career shift plan by taking a rigorous accelerated program in the healthcare profession for a year. What's ironic about this video is advertising an AI service to find job, when AI is a main reason many people in tech are having issues finding a job. o.O
And I find it crazy when they try low balling you after you go through the entire interview process with a low a** compensation that won’t even cover your bills for the month or make you house poor. This economy sucks!
This is the best video I've seen that explains what's happening in the current job market and what I've been experiencing with interviews. Your detailed breakdown is so reassuring and makes me feel much better about continuing the search. I'll definitely be more open to different opportunities and continue to upskill as I move forward in this process. Thank you so much!
The main issue is the sheer number of candidates vying for the same jobs, which simply means there aren't enough positions to go around. It’s not rocket science. Another challenge is applying for roles that demand exceptional proficiency in multiple areas. Many of us exaggerate our skills or qualifications because if we don't, someone else will. This exaggeration is common and expected, but it often results in the hiring process filtering out many applications right away, while a few still make it through. Furthermore, being the "right fit" is crucial. Initial screenings via phone or video calls are often used to decide if you move on to the next stage. Soft skills are increasingly important; strong communication, presentation, negotiation, conflict resolution, planning, and team-building skills can make you stand out more than a candidate with similar qualifications but weaker soft skills. Your resume and CV should highlight you first, then your skills and experience. They are tools to get you noticed. Once you’ve caught attention, it’s crucial to impress during interviews. Ultimately, even if you’re not the perfect candidate on paper, a personable and engaging demeanor can outweigh a defensive or introverted applicant with more experience and qualifications.
We need STRONG pro-worker anti-business legislation. We also need to criminalize ghost job ads and we need heavy taxes on ai, robot, and automation use in order to have a universal basic income. The government forcing companies to not discriminate demonstrated that these companies can be forced to play ball if the people and the government are willing to go after them.
I feel like landing a remote position these days is pretty much slim to none. When I was unemployed, I tried applying to different "remote jobs" online but absolutely everything that came back was a recruitment scam. THE FUCK!! How the hell are you supposed to find a remote job when it's so damn difficult. Luckily I got my back and I plan to keep it that way. Building an online business now so I don't have to worry about keeping a job down the road.
I was also warned not to answer job ads on Craigslist or send your resume to any of the jobs posted there. Scammers just want you to send them your resume and now the scammers have your information.
Yeah, that’s so true. I’m now working at HR and they do a job posting just to get an approval, when in reality the position’s been already filled by promoting internal employee. Another position has been posted for a year now, but for the cost saving they’re not intending to hire lol. Also in Korea we post through system, where people can apply directly globally, but in reality those resumes are never screened and people are hired through local job postings, headhunters and recruiting companies. So I feel bad for the people who are literally left ghosted 😢
Good video. Other ideas: Use Recruiters to get you some temp gigs, which may turn into perm job. Or, use Temp Agencies. Or, use temp agency to get into a university, then find a perm job at that college. Bennies of the public sector can be a sweet pension, low workload, no O/T, nice vacation, low stress, etc. I did this for 25 years, it was a joy. Best of luck to all of you !!
the bitter truth is 90% of the jobs I ever scored was thru networking. Without powerful friend or family connections...a college degree is basically worthless. That is the black pill we all must swallow. Nepotism is still rampant.
Never give up! I tried a part time job - became a manager and during the pandemic took over the company. Now I own, manage as the CEO I believe it's better to work for yourself than being a slave to job searching - however a job search can turn into a business if you look at it with a pivoting angle.
I needed to hear this, I’ve now reached the 6 month mark of not having a job. My jobless story was due to a back fracture which is really scary for me because I can only do certain job environments. I’ve kept hearing the why but never the what to do. Thank you so much for giving me some hope.
About ghost jobs, one recruitment expert who helped me a lot as I was a junior told me that it was a communication strategy to fake their own financial well-doing, to trick their competitors, or simply to advertise themselves.
Excellent points in your video. I'm retired and hunting for a job has changed a lot. When I was laid off from IBM to bring in cheaper workers, I saw coming and we had saved for many years. If I was going to start over, I would go to a vo-tech and learn a trade like HVAC or plumbing. I would start my own company. There is too many people trying to use RU-vid for income and just don't have anything to offer really. Yes, jobs will be harder to find and KEEP!
You are super impressive and helped me quite a bit. I found myself taking pics of your stats throughout so I could share this info in our next conversation lol :) I especially appreciated your reflection on traditional jobs and your challenging us Gen-X'rs & Boomers to think differently, outside of the box. I can feel that's the general pull as an older professional, but it's just so hard for us older people to break that thinking with all the conditioning we've had. I was considering a Master's degree but did some research on ROI and it aligned exactly with what you're saying: more degrees (and more debt) do not equate to landing a better job anymore (although they USED to!). I think you're on the cutting edge of producing content for us olders in this critical subject matter. You're super inspirational for us! Thank you!
I've got a M.A.Ed in instructional technology and over 15 years experience in various industries doing corpo training. I've submitted for hundreds of jobs in 18 months and all I got from it are FIVE CALLS. The recruitment system is fucking broken. I don't know what else to do. It seems like the resumes go into a black hole from which nothing emerges. Nothing even a bloody call back saying no.
I have the same masters degree and I’m not even getting interviews for entry level roles. I’ve applied to 100s of jobs as well. This job market is an absolute joke. I’ve been unemployed for 10 months.
I think they only count people as "unemployed" if they are collecting unemployment. But some people are not (like myself). They should also count UNDEREMPLOYED people. Now that would show the real numbers of how many are struggling.
Yes, so much yes. I've been underemployed for 12 years, and struggling to get by the entire way, haven't collected a single penny of unemployment money from the gov't, and yet, my struggles aren't counted in their lying statistics.
I was fulling out 100 applications a week from APRIL 2015 to APRIL 2020, I did not receive even 1 confirmation email until middle of 2016- didn't even know it was a thing. I still was not getting confirmation emails for even half of the applications I submitted. I threw in the towel, it all got repetitive, more fake job postings, companies nor even in my state. It is a RACKET! The days when you could walk into a company, fill out application, hand them resume in person, put your face and personality with your name, were much ore effecient!
For those people thinking about getting a graduate degree in order to advance your career, I would say don't do it. Do it if you love learning, research ect. But I know people who have taken their MS degrees off their resumes to be considered for positions. I have an MS in stem and I still have to apply to 1000s of positions.
It really is a bizarre take. We can't all just be business owners, for a variety of reasons. It'd be like casually giving out advice like "oh you got cancer? Have you tried paying millions of dollars to the underground people for the cure?"
Don't stop the fight! there is no better time right now, beloved, to reinvent ourselves. The underlying tone in this presentation is that times are changing in an unstoppable direction. Really good video. I love how you show the definitions and that even though Amazon has posted 25000 job openings, less than a third were actually approved to be filled. Keep up the good work
This is why we need REGULATIONS for Corporations. And a Union in Tech. This is only the beginning. It's going to get much, much worse in the next 5-10 years.
I'm not trying to be rude, but that's not a solution. Corporations are cutting corners and scorching earth because they are desperate to keep their profit margins to stay afloat. Nobody except hedge-funds are actually doing well. All of this comes down to US fiscal policy and an imploding demographic problem.
Ever since I got into teaching, I kid you not, having Masters isn't that all glorious when you find out most positions are part-time. On a different note, as a graphic designer on the side, most jobs are being outsourced now to other countries. Although I am from the Philippines, the competition is harder because there are those willing to receive lower salaries for a demanding job. I haven't mentioned the time difference, so most work on night shifts. What a sacrifice. I just want to be a tree. I won't have to move, but I'll live. 😂
I got through the third round of my last software engineering interview process and was told the job was eliminated, so my efforts was all for nothing. I had to literally write a drone path planning algorithm to find all the lighthouses in Sweden using a python library I didn't know before, figure out which lighthouses to hop to without running out of batter power, then plot all the light house on a globe and the line path in a web browser, then make sure all the code was modular, commented, and standardized in a few days JUST TO TALK TO THE HIRING TEAM. I have 10 years of experience, so I was really sure to do very well on the programming portion of the interview. I was ultimately told by the company that I made it to the next round after my last successful interview, but the job was eliminated, so thanks, but we don't need you. This has happened to me 3 other times over my time interviewing over the past several months.
what I do not get is that you are rejected by the same company for a position for being underqualified and for another position for being overqualified. what is the right amount?
Hmmm, Bryan i wonder if this is related to the fact that each year you have hundreds of thousands of Indian/Asian people moving to the US to specifically get a sofwate job (even in times of crisis like now).
