“So if we’ve got fear in our head our brain is not gonna let our muscles do the things we need to do to learn a manual” sooo true. Gotta be aware of risks but you cannot let the fear run the show when you’re out doing something.

That is a perfect example of tapping the back door, coming at it from another angle, learning how to not fall off, brilliant.

One important tip people - rear tyre pressure needs to be higher. Low tyre pressure will cause you losing the side-to-side balance. It's really night and day difference ☝

actually i did hurt my knees badly when jumpin of the bike by learning manuals. i was in speed and could not run after i jumped of and my legs tangled up and i hurt knee ligaments very bad. i understand its very important to be able to jump of your bike, but im not feeling comfortable with it. i did not give up, made a manual machine which felt more safe. i can manual now. btw mastering wheelies first and back brake control did help a lot. and its easier to jump of from wheelie than from a manual.
@ridingwithjoshandwendy
@ridingwithjoshandwendy Год назад
Wow, glad you were ok! I personally think it’s a lot easier to learn how to control your weight first so that you’re not just clamping on your brakes and pulling the front end down. I also find it WAAYYY easier to jump off the back without a seat in the way haha. But I can barely wheelie to save my life, I think manuals are a lot easier
@1982papo
@1982papo Год назад
@@ridingwithjoshandwendy well, i guess then, that whatever works for you is the best. i learned how to feather the brakes, and it did help a lot (brake control is also important in other situations than manualing) i understand that guys in bmx and stuff do not need the brakes, its pure balance.
@ridingwithjoshandwendy
@ridingwithjoshandwendy Год назад
Ya, I think that’s the distinction; I had already leaked the balance component on BMX bikes and just had to apply it to the bigger bike. But BMX also made me super used to the low seat, so I’m really timid and uncomfortable doing anything with the seat up. I’m still working on them though, hopefully I’ll have them down soon!

I haven't actually taught myself to move my wait that far back (over the back axel enough to get lift). I assume without even looking that every time I move "back" I'm mostly moving my hip up. I feel like I should teach myself on something like a little BMX bike and slowly move up to a 29" mountain bike. :P

I've been practising wheelies and manuals maybe for 10 years and I have perfectes my wheelies, but I've never done one single manual :(( Maybe some people can never manual...
@ridingwithjoshandwendy
@ridingwithjoshandwendy Год назад
I’m the opposite haha, manuals are way easier for me! But the two tricks are actually very different; one uses your “engine” to stay up, like a motorcycle, and one uses only weight transfer, like a skateboard. I talk about it more in this video, and you can see how bad I suck at wheelies 😂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-txRFkTFyTXY.html

Hey man, Great vid 🤙 But I don't know what im doing wrong since i cant the lift the front wheel high enough to hold the manual, and i feel like im just not heavy and strong enough to lift it up far enough. Or is it that my bike is heavy or something? Please help me bro 😭🙏
@ridingwithjoshandwendy
@ridingwithjoshandwendy 5 месяцев назад
Glad you liked the video! It’s all weight transfer, 5 year old kids can do it haha (kids these days right 😂). Make sure you’re focusing on shifting your weight down and back, not pulling up
@Begett

I performed decent manuals back in my bmx days. But I have problems with doing them on my 27.5 inch hardtail. I get in contact with the back tire or the fronts goes down quick. Is there anything with the angle to keep the bike up? I'm confused. I have a real short 415mm chainstay and have trouble understanding what's the point with it. Any tips anyone here?
@ridingwithjoshandwendy
@ridingwithjoshandwendy Год назад
I had that issue for a while too! The balance point is a lot higher because the frame has more BB drop, you really just have to commit to getting that front end up a lot higher, try the drill I talk about in the video where you intentionally loop out so you can get comfortable with the feeling and begin to find the balance point
@wendykirchhoff8980
@wendykirchhoff8980 Год назад
Do you recommend learning manuals or wheelies first? If you’re starting from scratch?
@ridingwithjoshandwendy
@ridingwithjoshandwendy Год назад
Hey wifey! I personally think manuals are easier, but that goes against what just about everyone else will tell you. At the end of the day they’re a lot more different than most people think; a wheelie uses your “motor” to keep the front end up, like wheelieing a motorcycle, whereas a manual is just using your body weight, like manualing a skateboard
@door2doorand4x46

@ridingwithjoshandwendy
@ridingwithjoshandwendy Год назад
You can definitely get it, it’s all about transferring your weight, but it’s definitely scary learning to do that! I realize my video was more about how to STAY in a manual vs GET in a manual; this has some more tips on how to get into it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2YQrXfH-U38.html

Absolute best video describing the process of learning manual. And I watched them ALL! If you follow these tips, you WILL learn it. I went through this last year and can definitely relate. If you practice and still have problems with it, you either don't practice correctly or not consistently enough. I dedicated the whole season to learning only THIS particular skill and here is the result. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G5aMwxv_A7s.htmlsi=oA_M5Bq7TQEUwsBV And yeah, I am in my 40s 😊
