Ok so I work with fish professionally. Although i understand why you would feel this way, let me educate you on r.o water. Obviously for south American fish you're going to need a a softer water for maximum happiness. The common misconceptions with reverse osmosis water is that when you set up your tank, you just put the water+stability. The water is so clean you actually you need to buffer the water because it's filtered to be pristine. Meaning you will have to add alkaline/GH/kh when you're settling up your tank. If you don't establish that your tank won't be able to cycle. Atleast from what I know from matter of experience. Your tank will crash if you don't buffer it. Don't misinform your followers!

So years of experience not using RO water and successfully breeding numerous fish is…wrong? I am not ignorant as to what RO water is…no misinformation given, only fact that you do not need RO water to be successful with fish. I will debate that more people crash tanks by using RO water because they are told they have to have it to be successful when that is not true. You do not need RO water to be successful.

Breeding snails 😒

You seriously think the only thing I have done is breed snails? I was told I would never breed pleco species, L199 wild caught bred in hard tap water. Stability of parameters and conditioning of fish is what people miss. Taking the confusion out of it is all I am doing

@@WeldonTanks I respect that but don't completely hate on r.o water !!! Lol

Ignorance will always cause problems, that's why you should do your research. There is also a difference between your fish surviving and thriving. You'll notice an increase in color, activity, breeding activity, and fry survivability if the natural chemistry and temperature of the water is met. If you're going to keep a dog and feed it the cheapest food you can find because "it's just a dog," that's your business. I'm going to give all I can for the animals I keep.

@@WeldonTanks Keep them yes. But breeding south american plecos in liquid rock water (tds 1000, ph8.2) is not possible :)

I agree in freshwater unless you live in Michigan and don't want to keep African cichlids. But reef tanks need one.
@WeldonTanks

I believe you can keep whatever fish you want in your area as long as you keep stability. Hard water is nothing to be afraid of in my opinion. Kept plenty of different species in hard water when I lived in Utah and still do here in Texas

@@WeldonTanks it's not so much the hard water. There are toxins in the water in Michigan that are harmful. Most people don't even drink straight tap water.
@fisharefriends598
@fisharefriends598 2 года назад
RO is only really necessary if the water coming out the tap is so problematic or toxic fish just can survive… The only other time it’s needed is if you have every very expensive fish and you need to keep them at a preset chemical makeup Not all water is equal. Here were I live .. a lot of fertiliser and chemicals in water. Some places ever some even worse
@WeldonTanks

I will debate the chemical make up….

@@WeldonTanks I am talking toxic for humans, toxic for fish. … not all water is safe… for fresh water… it probably only needed 5% of the time.. not all fish keeper are in first world infrastructure areas
