I love that people always say Van Gogh started art later in life but he was in his 20s. Me, I did start later in life. Months before my 40th birthday. In my 8 years of drawing I have advanced to a level I never thought I’d reach. I do realistic portraits and comics. RU-vid has been a huge help since I’ve had no formal training, . Anyone can learn to draw if I did.
Congrats on that! I started drawing at 44. Nowhere near “good”, but I can see that I’ve improved in the past year when looking at my earlier sketches. It’s awesome when you can see it.
@@mansimalik8826 I just searched on RU-vid for it. This channel has helped, as well as Jabba and Cherry Deluxe. I’m more going for the cartoon styles. There’s also the quick line sketch, where it’s as it says - a quick & rough sketch to get the general shape. I’ve used other channels that I cannot remember ATM, but there’s a ton here.
As someone who is slow at progress. You cant expect to get better at anything if you cant enjoy it. I used to be a try hard when I started drawing heroes and all as a kid. Only if I relax and realize that making a mistake on the paper wont kill me did I feel like I was the one holding my pencil and not my anxiety. Im 17 and due to studies am inconsistent in filling up my sketchbook, but when I do, I want to focus more on enjoying it than being perfect. Enjoy the process and gradually progress will occur.
"No amount of natural ability can compete with diligent practice" -Jeff Goin. I draw traditional way, but wanted to learn digital art. I started to practice 6 months ago. I followed Kesh advise, practice EVERYDAY, even for few minutes. Looking back on my first digital art 6 months ago, I couldn't believe my improvement in just short time. Yes there is a so called 'innate talent", but it'll be useless without consistent practice. Remember, Kesh wasn't born an artist, he mold himself as an artist, he practice.
My parents scoffed at my desire to be an artist when I was young and told me I needed to get a good sound office job. So i did. It stopped every creative bone I had. I thought as I didn't have "talent" they were probably right. Over the years i dabbled ind a few sketches and graphic design under the impression you cant make a living from that. Only now at 55 years old am I realising that I should have been an artist. Your videos, particularly this one have really helped me immensely. Thankyou Kesh.
So happy for you that you are starting out now. And so glad you are finding these helpful. Your story will inspire many to take on this journey. I might also argue that you've been doing "art" all this while as well. The experience you've gained so far is HARD MATERIAL for the art you are about to do now. All you need to focus on is the technique, which is fairly easy to gain. So excited for you!! Keep going and don't stop :)
This is really one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. No bullshit, no silly jokes, straight to the point. Thank you very much for inspiring us to be better.
Hey just found you and just wanted to stop in and say thanks for the encouragement, i like you have been drawing since childhood and even took lots of art classes through the years but somewhere along the way things changed and i gave up my dream of being a graphic artist professionally, BUT now i'm sort of a stay at home mom, not that i have the free time but i'm trying to make it so i can get back to it, and hearing you say all of these things is like a warm hug and reminder that even though i'm almost 40 i still have time to learn a new skill like using porcreate and get better at my skill :) thanks! cant wait to check out your other videos :)
I grew up with that same notion the guy was talking about in the clip, it’s been a process to shift away from those beliefs and only recently I’m starting to actually believe, hey I can learn this too. It’s crazy what impact these things have on the trajectory of your life. Thanks for a great reminder.
hey kesh ! I really resonated with your video. the part where you were frustrated with your art before you found passion in it is where I think I relate to. still trying to be passionate 😅, but I know I will get there. thank you for motivating me😄😁.
I agree with you bro... I used same strategy to learn and continuously do it... Once understanding the concept there needs a lot of practice and your own experiments. I thank all the real heros who shares their experiences. It made life easier you just have to be clear why you are learning something.
As a procrastinator, I've been very hesitant to learn how to draw since everytime I try, I'm not consistent. But I've been looking at your drawing camp for awhile now and if I can be consistent in writing or playing video games then I can be consistent in drawing as well, I admire all of these tips when it comes to drawing. I like how you always tell us to put effort into drawing and you'll get what you want, vs other artists who would just tell us that if you do this one thing, one time and never commit then you could automactically learn how to draw. Sometime this month, I will purchase your drawing camp, since not only it's the best priced drawing program that I've seen but it's the best quality at a fast pace and it's easy to fallow through with it. If Deepali and you can draw then so can I!
That’s a very good piece of advise many people don’t know ‘learning requires rest’.. often people get frustrated why they can’t do it while they don’t give enough time to their brain to process it and their frustration lead them to quit it. Where as the simple process is learn.. rest…try and repeat this like you are enjoying it don’t let it become a burden for you.
It starts with having an open mind for whatever it is we learn, so many people slow down their process of progression with saying “I can’t do this” when if you have to say that at least add yet at the end. Or I am currently improving my skills. Start with a ready to grow mindset and any learning journey is just a little bit easier, I fully agree with this.
You don’t need talent to be a great artist but it’s definitely helps. Person with talent would be similar to a character in an rpg game with a 10-25% exp boost. They both can get a similar end result if they put in the work but the one with talent will just have an easier time getting there
Thank you. This video has given hope to this 29 year old who aspires to create his own comics and cartoons one day. Been drawing seriously since last november and i will continue practising with this new motivation in mind.
@@KeshArt Thank you, it means a lot to hear you say that. The road is long and hard, but one i feel i must walk to truly discover myself, both as an artist and as a person.
Kesh can you make a tutorial or ebook on how to make chibbi characters like yours please please please or at least share image of the proportion of your characters, I have been struggling a lot to make chibbi character especially in right proportion.
Bro am sad because everyone is saying that we don't need talents do draw, drawing is easy .Now as an artist (if we don't need talents to draw) what do I have to flex? You guys be like U have drawings you are an artist right...really do you think so ? Its not an talent you can do better -its what they say to themselves 😢
Hmmm, "skilled enough". And you might be right, talent is outside our control. Skill is in our control. We might not be skilled enough to do a project, but that's kinda the point? So we becomes the type of person who's able to execute that:)
could you please help me with this i am very passionate about becoming an artist, because i love to draw and paint even my drawing skills are also very good and i am always ready to learn new things in drawing but i am now at the age to make a firm decision on choosing my career so i really wanna be an artist but i observed that most artist are poor and right now i am in 12 grade studying science, because my parents aspiration is to make me a doctor however i am not bad at studying but i am always passionate about drawing and painting so what should i do? does career as an artist worth it?
I feel like my art isn't improving even by a small margin I was drawing daily but nowadays I only draw once a week I just lost the excitement to draw recently, any advice ?
There are people born with artistic talents, I myself believes I'm one of those people. Growing up, I observed people around me having a hard time drawing something I found so simple. However, I don't think one needs to be born with talent in order to become an artist. Talent exist in every field of arts and sciences. Take boxing as an example, there are exceptional fighters among other fighter, those who were born with talent, but this doesn't stop others from becoming a boxer. What we need is diligence in order to develop a skill.
Well here's the thing i think i am just lazy / stupid cus i dont learn from my mistakes. I just keep repeating the mistakes over and over 6 and a half months of drawing and i still do the same mistakes. 😂 Studying by myself. Also if your student did arcetecture she already has the art fundamentals hammered in to her head. Because architecture is drawing.
@5:41 Did u just say she was an architect?! Dude I thought architects draw stuff all the time, it's just that they work with "straight line" shapes...😅 Anyways, I believe in this myth but also wanna try out for myself to see whether I can draw so I'll use your video when I do that.. Nanri !
Your first point from that van guy (who calls their kid "van??" Brum, brum) is wrong. Artists have always had mentors even going back to Roman and Greek times. I just did a search for David Hockney's mentor and it comes up as Alan Davie.
Every time I do something , I fear about all of the stuff I should have doing this time , and I am like leave it for now and you might wondering that what's the things that I have to do and not my passion and wellbeing , that's just being naive, ok bye 🙃
@@KeshArt this is the next level of happiness when your favorite artist a person who encourage's you in many ways reply, So so happy feeling like an achievement in itself, and I've started 100 sketches challenge for my self to get somewhere thank you soooo much ♥️♥️♥️
Yes! It can be done. However it requires practice and a step to do it. I can see how much I’ve improved in the past year, despite not participating as much as I need to. Nowhere near on the level of Kesh, but confident enough to draw something on my whiteboard for my students. They actually look forward to it, and I have a few teachers coming in to see why I’ve drawn. I’m 45. If you’re new to it or afraid of starting, just take that step. Your other foot will follow, and before you know it, you’re drawing well.
