I’ve used my 3 point backhoe IAW manufacturer instructions/limits for a year now with no issues. My thoughts are it’s easy to over-stress the tractor if you’re tough on equipment. I know I could go crazy and try use it like a big excavator and do damage but I use common sense and stay within the limits: don’t lift rear of tractor off the ground, be careful when off angle, etc, etc. If you’re careful with your equipment and stay within manufacturer limits then you should be fine. If you’re like some folks I know who enjoy trying to take their equipment beyond its limits, then don’t go 3 point. P.S. I went one level below the recommended for my size tractor for extra safety factor.

As far as operating they’re ok. They crack the frames if they do a lot of traveling from the bouncing. Seen a lot of broken hearts from home owners over the years after adding 3pt backhoe

I am relatively new to this world of tractors but I am loving my TYM T25. I did not get a backhoe when I bought my tractor because I did not anticipate the amount of digging that I now find I need to do. That said, since i do need one I have done a ton (I am obsessive about research) of research on sub compact and compact tractor backhoes and this video is spot-on to everything I have learned. There are lots of 3 point mounting backhoes and some are really well designed and equipped. More enticingly, they are cheaper than the frame mounts. BUT, I have determined that, just as Clueless Dad indicates here, it is a false economy. My biggest concern is one that seems to kill a lot of tractors using 3 point mounts; the hitch cannot tolerate the sideloading that many backhoe functions put onto the assembly. Digging to the side or even just raking dirt sideways back into a trench presents a significant risk of damaging the 3 point and it is no fun waiting for parts and rebuilding a damaged hitch. Suddenly that few thousand dollar savings is burned up in parts and repair costs along with the cost of having your tractor down for weeks or even months. I've had to bite my lip and wince at spending about $2K more for a TYM TB65 frame mount backhoe for my tractor but I would suggest that anyone considering the 3 point mount equipment think long and hard on what he presents here and can be found in several other good posts. Peace of mind is a value added item.

Subframes only way to go just asking for trouble with a three point.. destroy the ass end of your tractor if you screw up. Or don't have enough experience with tractors or backhoes

I won't advertise, but the company that I work for has thousands of 3 point hitch backhoes sold without any issues. The key thing to note is that there are limitations to everything. Weight handling, horsepower requirements, tractor wheelbase and tractor weight all play a factor to handling a 3 point hitch backhoe. I fully understand the misconceptions, but implore that everyone do their homework before completely shooting down the idea.

There is a reason Kubota, John Deere, Mahindra, LS and every other tractor brand doesn't make 3 point backhoes . Save a couple thousand on a backhoe and ruin a $20,000 machine doesn't seem to cost efficient.

You can buy an aftermarket sub- frame from 1000 to 1500 bucks

Have the exact setup,love mine,they are as safe as any on the market,you don't use the 3 point to raise or lower the hoe while attached,this hoe is designed to replace your shovel,great for trenching and digging,not for stump and large rock removal,know your limits with it and it will be your best friend,have large jobs to do all the time and heavy material jobs,get the frame mounted.

I've seen cracked axle housings and frames from those. Get one with a subframe. Way to much stress on certain areas of the tractor itself that wasn't intended to have on it.

slop around too much... Too much stress on the top link bracket on the tractor.. subframe only way to go

3 point hitch backhoe is asking to break something, there is a reason Kubota, John Deere, LS, Mahindra , every known brand uses frame mounted backhoes. Just look what your 3 point hitch is rated or capable of lifting, look at what a backhoe weighs and know think of how much EXTRA pressure and weight gets put on that backhoe and the three point hitch when swinging and digging with that backhoe, usually when using a backhoe it's rarely nice easy soft sand your digging in. And when buying a new compact or sub compact tractor it's ALWAYS cheaper in the long run to get the backhoe or loader or mower deck or any attachment your on the fence about needing or wanting. To spend $15-$20-$30+ thousand on a tractor and try to save a couple thousand by getting a 3 point backhoe and then ruining your new tractor is just foolish.

Look it up, Kubota made a 3 pt backhoe for years. They are fine if you have common sense.
@chadbinette3201
@chadbinette3201 Год назад
@@timcope3115 common sense huh? The backhoe for the bx weighs 607 lbs , the 3 point lift capacity of the same bx is 680 lbs. So just sitting still the weight of the backhoe is almost maxing out the 3 point lift capacity, that don't include when it's bouncing around while driving or the extra force when digging. Common sense said they ALL (Kubota, Deere, Massey and any other reputable manufacturer) stopped making 3 point backhoes a while ago and use a sub frame for a reason. There are plenty, actually many cases of the 3 point backhoes literally snapping tractor frames in half. They stopped making 3 wheelers too but I guess making a machine that can do 50-60+ mph that can only turn safely at 10-15mph was a mistake too?

@@chadbinette3201 I guess you made my point exactly. I have an '84 ATC200ES that I bought new and have never had an issue nor accident on it. It gets used hard hunting. But doesn't get played with. For years if you wanted a backhoe other than a full blown industrial model you had a choice, guess what it was? A 3 pt add on, and they worked just fine. But every yuppie that owned a 1/4 acre lot didn't think they had to have one like they do now. The reason all the major mfg's went to subframe units is demand. They found out they could sell them as options to these knuckleheads with lawn mowers that think they need backhoes when all they need is a shovel or a pair of post hole diggers. Oh the reason they snap frames is they use the 3 point units to pick up stuff they weigh more than the whole unit and try to use them as pavement breakers. My 3pt. unit hasn't killed any tractors in 28 years.

@@timcope3115 dude I grew up on farmalls I don't own a bx I was using it as an example. You need a backhoe for hunting? And I own a 40 acre farm , l3940 and IH584 and I wouldn't put a 3 point backhoe on the 584 that can lift 4000lbs is a catagory 2 . It's just foolish, great you use your backhoe for hunting not actually work so I guess it would last, but don't mean there aren't plenty that don't.

@@chadbinette3201 No I don't use a backhoe for hunting, you were the one that went off on 3 wheelers. an ATC200ES is an '84 Honda big red. Goes to show you don't know squat about them either, just what you read. I also grew up on farms and own one to this day. Own and operate heavy equipment also.
