I think another part of birthdays is that it shows the true colours of those around you. I got upset yesterday because my close friends didn't wish me happy birthday, not a single text and I would go to extra lengths for their birthday... arrange to go shopping for their gifts, get them a card and message, put up a post in the morning. By the time the evening came, then they put up a post, but when I responded thankyou I heard nothing else. I also remember when with my emotionally abusive ex, I arranged a meetup with him and friends and not one person turned up. They didn't even have the decency to say they couldn't make it. I always have that dread f who is going to bother with their time, as I usually tend to put in the most effort.

I just turned 18 yesterday (8th May 21) and I had a good day. My dad surprised me by visiting, I got 2 cakes and calls at 12 by my three best friends. Birthdays have got to be the most depressing day of the year next to Christmas, Valentines and New Year's Eve. It's my birthday today and it was non happening as usual. They get worse as time goes on and extra bad when you're single and or your family don't care. It's gotta be a myth these days are good. I gave up trying to make my birthday good cos people never want to go out. I started planning adventures on my own which helped. Now with lockdown and all these rules there's no hope for anyone doing anything much at all.

It’s my 20th birthday today and I’ve been having waves of anxiety for weeks. This morning I woke up and I didn’t feel different, until I picked up my phone and I saw all those messages from loved ones. I will admit that it made me feel excited for the next decade in my life but then I was focussing on the people who hadn’t wished me a happy birthday yet which is so silly because we are busy human beings. Then after I worked out I had this wave of sadness hit which is crazy because it’s been so long since I’ve felt that level of sadness as I’ve grown a lot over the last year. This is so different to how I usually feel on my birthday which is why it’s hard to understand why - there’s no pattern that has been emerging and the only thing I can think about is how I’m no longer a teenager and there are clearly things that I need to accept and grow out of. Today I didn’t make plans during the day so I’m alone, but there’s some comfort in that and I’ve never done things alone so maybe it’s time I start 🤞🏽

Oh God!!!! I thought I was the only one in this life who is getting birthday blues but congrats to me that I'm not all alone, I have others too. I'm a hyperexcited for even the tiniest thing happening around me and so with my birthday, but but but I'm unable to express myself. I wait the whole year for my birthday, earlier when we were children we used to enjoy so much on our birthdays but when you get matured you don't expect anything from people. Im going to turn 17 this august and I dont know what will happen on my birthday. One of the major reasons for hating my bday is that there is no one around who can make you feel special. When you even do all the things on your birthday too whats the perk of feeling special on the ordinary birthday.

In my life, I always count on people, and by people I mean close friends whom I can count on a single hand. The fact that my best friend did not wish me this year made me feel ok (presumably because he was busy) and also because ironically, my partner, whom I was in a relationship for 8 years, did not celebrated me in these years.
