1- ego Do past papers ASAP 2- joylessness Do what you enjoy, even tho not as directly efficiently 3- adoration Flashcards are great but not understanding it. Start to learn WHY DO U KNOW IT FROM THE BACK OF UR HAND, BUT STILL GETTING WRONG ? CAN U TEACH IT TO A FIVE YEAR OLD? REWORDING =CONFUSION? 4- ignorance Don’t massage ego do detailed learning if getting something wrong 5- isolation Friends are the best revision tool. Utilise them but not often 6- rivalry Constant fighting can be draining and cause burnout p, gatekeeping, lying abt information. Don’t make rivals of people that should be ur friends 7- face up to reality Efficiency is key, understand material and find that passion
Same lol....I'm a Med School Graduate (circa 2017) and I've always needed pen and paper to make mind maps and summary points for me to link across subject matters along with past papers. From my personal experience I think that solely doing question banks and anki can sometimes lead to cramming and seeing cases with a tunnel vision which unfortunately isn't the best for postgraduate exams and daily management of patients where you need to see patients holistically. I'm happy that people can definitely just use these methods to excel as making notes and taking time to understand concepts can be quite painstaking lol but that's the best way for me contrary to what all these medtubers tell us. Just do what you're comfortable with tbh.
@@ThaliaRam I'm a first year! This is oddly comforting to hear, past papers and anki can get so boring and bleak sometimes. Taking notes and piecing the things together on paper is so much more engaging!! I'm gonna stick to what I like and is the most interesting to me :)
It wont, i am one of the best grades un my year i always use pen and paper , there are different types of learning ; so you do what works best for you ✨
I have flopped many many many times.. quit my study many times, but always regretted it and came back. Now I am a mom to a 7 month old and ready to stick to it and finish my Law degree.. 2 more years to go 🙊 Your videos really motivate me and teach me a lot, so thank you for that ❤ And congrats on becoming a Doctor, so proud!!
You always came back!! That’s so so inspirational and motivating for me!!! And doing it with a son as well!! So so impressive ✨ Best of luck with the rest of your degree and please come back and let me know when you finish so I can say congratulations to you too!!
Been feeling guilty about my handwriting method since there's not enough representation here on youtube and I've been an anki wannabe for so long lol. But I do love handwriting and doing practice questions. And it's what works for me. Though it may not be the most efficient and effective, it's one that brings me joy and makes me learn. So if anyone needs validation, my handwriting gals, gays and gentlemen, this is it. Love this video Faye!
This has been the best video I've seen on study methods. One of my biggest mistakes was doing long hours of inefficient revision using revision methods that 'smart people use'. I would spend hours glaring at a textbook only to realise more than half of that info has completely gone after a test. I neglected friendships and spend weekends toiling away on the laptop. Now, as I've started year 13 (wanting to go into biomedical science) I finally found revision methods that reminded me why I loved my subjects in the first place. Notetaking and practice questions. I've also allowed myself to enjoy my high school friendships more by going out with them more often to eat something or go ice skating etc. All these things- and my grades immediately shot up! Thank you so much Faye!
thank you. studied my ass off and failed miserably last semester. I am studying computer science and it made me feel like a stupid potato. Now i changed the way i study, i am doing a lot of math and programming, and while it may be comforting to stay with revising past lectures or book chapters there is nothing better than just doing a lot of papers and homeworks and assignments. I guess med must be different. I had to stop being in the comfort of all the theory and really every day put what i learn to the test. I have now a time window of 1,5h of revision for each lecture and then i immediately seek out practical questions and just calculate. Putting what i have learned to the test. I also hired a tutor for math and i go to my professors for immediate feedback on my efforts. Fingers crossed !!
“But that attitude is exhausting and carrying that arround is an even quicker root to burn out” I felt that. Just started med school and bless me but this attitude already has driven me to a dangerous stage of mental health. Love that video! Thanks!
Wow honestly need this more than you know! Just failed my first exam while in dental school and my confidence and mental health went into the toilet. I’ve been relying on notes and it’s worked thus far but practice questions are definitely the move
I'm in my first year of biomedicine as I want to be a research scientist, and so many people have told me that making physical notes that are pleasing to read from is a waste of time. All I hear is I should be focusing on anki cards and practice questions but honesty, for me it's such a boring way to learn😅I love writing notes and it's how I learn best because I'm a very visual person. Does it take a lot of time? Sure. But it's something I love doing and I'm going to continue doing it🤷♀️
OMGOOOOOOSH I basicly flopped 2 semesters because of all of this. I study Finance it isnt the most supportive community. Honestly everything you said I loved it and how it wasn't bitter. I will hvae to study one year longer which I honestly don't mind though because I do like student life. Just anybody watching this everythind Faye says in this video is true, so please take her seriously and implemt it all when going to University. THankyou
i’m doing my alevels at the moment, and chemistry is making me want to cry constantly because of how specific questions are etc, i’m understanding all of the content and using the science based study methods like spaced repetition and flashcards and so on but when it comes to practice questions i’m dropping silly marks everywhere, eventually leading to lots of U grades 😭 thanks fae for making me feel less stupid as i continue to figure out the best ways for me as an individual to study :)
have you got exams next year? I’m also studying Alevels and just about scraping through for Chemistry. Those exam questions are for sure hard. Also, there’s so many ways they could catch you out in questions and you think you don’t know anything 🥲
@@izabella.molloy9627 yep I have my final a-levels next year, good luck to me for chem :,) also don’t worry, I believe you can do this! It does take time to improve :)
💩💞 lovely video! Great timing, honestly; the new semester just started and only one week in, I can already hear everyone's motor roaring to get ahead... All the comparison makes it hard to find friends for me personally, that's one of my issues. I can't put myself above that, because it always ends in comparing something, anything really - and I am insecure about my intelligence enough as is. Either way, I'm glad you're back on this mythical path with us, Faye! Lots of love
I am doing an English Degree and one thing i do is write notes with a Fountain Pen as it slows your writing down in a way a biro doesn't and it makes me think more about what i am writing. I also read out chunks of my textbook and then listen to it on my headphones as sometimes it goes in more when i am tired or reading the same paragraph again and again and it is not happening!
Really really love and appreciate this vid! Im currently in y13 and did horrifically in y12 for some of the reasons you mentioned, i did tons and tons of past paper questions without fully understanding the content (blindly memorising) which probably seems obvious but didnt to me at the time rip. This made me think I was stupid and that i should give up on applying to med but this vid has just reinforced that its just a matter of technique and a healthy mindset which i am trying to implement this year, thank you so much! ❤❤
Aw Salma I did horrifically in Y12 too, it happens to the best of us 🥲 you got this!! And I hope I see a comment this time next year telling me all about how you successfully your year 13 was 💞
I love this and saving this!!! Thank you 💕 I'm 27 and want to get back in to medical school!! I dropped out at 22 as I just didn't know how to cope 😭 bit I finally feel like I'm ready to retake all these classes etc 🥰 I also now have a baby and a home and now feel like I am more in a stable environment to get my head into it also 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💃
If you feel ready to do so then go for it , fella. Not doing what you want to do is only gonna make you feel miserable Millions of best wishes for your future 👍👍👍😊😊😊
Sameee, but I've started feeling super guilty about it. One of my lecturers tends to say "You can read the day before and pass your exams because any fool can pass an exam but what kind of medical professional will you be? " I can't exactly remember how he put it but my take home from his statement was "Do you want to be a shallow DA with good grades and no knowledge to apply or do you want to be a bomb DA that actually knows their stuff?"
I have ADHD and I'm an economy student. I study a lot and I still have good results. Don't focus on the device of Adhd, but instead focus on the good sides: multitasking, understanding things fast (subjective). You can make it♥️
Let me say🤲. You are brilliant, your videos is beautifulnes, I love the final part with the sunshine and drinking a juice green. And I have really years of pain trying of studying. Faye your storie about flashcards are 🫶🕊️👻😁
