Barry is an HBO show that has somewhat flown under the radar, but it has been picking up steam thanks to the release of its third season. It's a show about Barry Berkman, who wants to become an actor instead of the hitman that he already is. Here's why you need to watch it.

One of the few shows where I’m constantly checking the runtime cause I’m worried of how many minutes are left, that’s how good Barry is, you constantly want more and dreading what’ll happen.

It's amazing how in 30 minutes this series is so thrilling and immersive and leaves you at the edge. The character development is top notch. The dark humor and dense drama are mixed to perfection.

Can we also mention how this show is so incredible only being 30 minutes. Tight, concise writing and storytelling. I love it. It only gets better as it goes along.

Witnessing this show going from a dark comedy with hints of drama into becoming one of the most emotionally harrowing shows airing was beautiful

I think the main thing is the tone/pacing, it's unlike any other show I've seen before. Is it a comedy, drama, thriller, or even fantasy (lots of surreal moments)? Hader and the other writers/directors masterfully understand when to keep the tone consistent, and when to change. I've been laughing out loud for one scene, then about 40 seconds later, I'm shocked with either disgust or sadness. And it works.

Great video! And I'd say the actors are doing great jobs as well, it seems so hard to carry that special tone of the show with dark comedy and drama to the acting performances, not just any actor could do that. Especially, Bill Hader and Henry Wrinkler are playing their hearts out and they deserve an Emmy for each season of the show
@Research0digo
@Research0digo Год назад
I disagree regarding Winkler - I feel strongly that the award(s) voters should have instead awarded #SarahGoldberg and #AnthonyCarrigan in a tie ... it's happened before. The reason it seems I'm bagging on Henry is because he has pronounced his character's name correctly only ONE time in all 28 episodes so far! Who does that?! I can't fathom #BillHader missing it, if for some inexplicable reason he never caught it - the editors had to have. #HenryWinkler can't very well say he forgot ... he's in dozens of scenes where either another cast member addressed him, or he was in the same scene when his name was mentioned. Sally, Hank, Fuches, D'arcy, etc - all of them knew their character's name. 🤦🏻‍♀🙄

People can change. And it’s not that Barry can’t change from hitman to actor. It’s that he has rage issues that stem from a lifetime of being manipulated, and they make it impossible for him to move forward in general, because he hasn’t found a healthy way to deal with them. And that’s just a tiny facet of the theme of this show, which is what makes _Barry_ so magnificent.
@beepboop756
@beepboop756 2 года назад
Lifetime of being manipulated? The earliest we see him is in his flashbacks to his first kill. Seems like it's less rage issues from being manipulated and more of a need to feel accepted and loved. He did not care about killing those three people during his first kills. Not even for a second did he show remorse. I this he's always had a violent side but now he has more opportunities to release it
@Fruit_Infiniti
@Fruit_Infiniti 2 года назад
He’s manipulated by Fuches, trades her in for Sally, and does all these little things for Gene and the acting class and gets little to no reward or recognition. That’s not something that happens overnight; he’s likely been a people-pleaser all his life seeking validation. Throw in a dash of fear and self-preservation and it gets hairy.
@Research0digo

Remember a number of times he was coerced into killing again; after he told the Chechens - and Fuches - in Goran's garage that he didn't want to murder anymore. 😢💔

This was just a show I was watching while I folded laundry since I don’t watch much tv besides Atlanta and I unfortunately caught this season of euphoria lmao. Anyways from season 2 episode 4 onwards and especially episode 5 of that season takes such a turn you never know where it’s going! The second half of the second season had me laughing like a mad man or surprised/tense. Then by season 3 every scene has a punchline and or is compelling and incredibly well made. Needless to say it became a very bad show to do chores during.

the show's center is trauma and abuse. and how trauma/abuse becomes a cycle Barry was traumatized while a marine at war. he was abused long-term by Fuches Sally was abused in a past relationship and carries that trauma with her. she then acts pretty abusively towards Natalie pretty much right away on her show Gene has a past filled with abusing those in lower positions in film and tv
@AntonQvarfordt
@AntonQvarfordt 2 года назад
The show's center is a car-full of roided up douchebags blasting Metallica charging at some some blasé muscle who confusedly takes them down in 3 seconds. You don't have to psuedo-intellectualize it... It's not invalid as great just because it doesn't take fancy words about 'character' to explain it.

My take is that tone & really strong individual scenes is what makes this show awesome. Consistent characters & character development (paradox?) isn't very much of it. Subversion of expectation is great though. Scenes not playing out as you thought they would... Plot lines not hitting the 'logical' or expected beats that you thought that would... That's a lot of what's great. On the weakness side I felt that especially in season 3 to some extent that this strength could be a weakness... Where the logical progression you'd expect is subverted almost too much, to a point where it starts to feel random or insincere. I also felt some scenes going for comedy really stretched the believability of the world, to where they felt artificial.. I didn't feel this so much in season 1 and 2.. I mean, I guess like the scene where they Chechnyan militia are doing a serenate dance for Barry is doing comedy to the point to where it breaks down the reality of the world a bit... Anyways I felt it less then. What I really love in Barry (and I love it a lot), are individual dark comedy scenes that's just fucking nerve wracking and relentless and fart-out-loud (from laughing) funny at the same time. ... But I'm not really so much having this 'character' nonsense.
@AntonQvarfordt
@AntonQvarfordt 2 года назад
A lot of people congratulating you on a great early video... What's up with that? Is the algorithm generating those comments? I feel like 'the algorithm' is really into titles like 'What you NEED to know' or 'Why [popular opinion/viewpoint] is a LIE' and stuff like that. Good early video I guess... Person who might have 3 other huge channels other than this one as far as we know.
