Why YOU need training! {Goshen Blacksmith Class} 

As someone who went to this class, I absolutely, 200% recommend it. I'm a brand new smith and i learned so much going to this class! The trek from wisconsin to ohio is a little long, but its well worth the drive to learn from awesome people and have great company. Thanks Roy for taking the time to help not only me, but the class as a whole, and thanks to Jamie Gier, Ed Brazeal and Brian Brazeal for getting everything set up in the new workshop to give us a great place to learn. I will be back for more!

Great Classes Roy ! Thanks for being there as the GOSHEN HISTORICAL SOCIETY SCHOOL OF BLACKSMITHING evolves . Without great teachers we could not do it.

With training comes knowledge and with those two combined comes experience, put those three main components together and you get a competent person at there job, wise words

I've got my first professional class coming up in September at the Virginia Institute of Blacksmithing and I can't wait

Just isnt in the cards right now. Learned quite a bit from you and Daniel Moss and the quadsquad family last year in a week. Currently trying to find local smiths to take classes/ possibly apprentice for. Problem is they are few and fat between around here. The guys with experience do production work and don't have time to teach. Thats why I watch you. Lol. Read, watch, duplicate, repeat.

Some folks need the classroom environment to learn but I totally Disagree to the highest level a person could disagree that class is the best or only way to learn. Even with all the modern knowledge, Modern equipment, modern classes and modern materials only the best in the entire world today have a shot at coming close to the the skill of black smiths and artisans that are all long gone and had none of those advantages. Classes can teach you tips a tricks that an instructor is willing to share but only dedication and experience doing it will ever make a person worth a damn as a blacksmith! People don't learn from success they learn from failure. Self taught does not mean isolated in a cave. Self taught means seeking the answers your self when you run into a problem. Figure it out or look for the answer to the issue. It's like saying a self made Millionaire never took advise or looked for it. Incorrect they never took investment. I will never turn away from sage advice! But, I don't need a class to learn either.

I would really love to take a class, but I have maybe two hours of real hammer time (hundreds of hours of RU-vid instruction though), and don't have any type of shop set up to make use of anything I would learn in a class. I feel like actually spending the money to take a class might get me fired up enough to build a forge, but... I keep weighing the pros and cons of taking a class without having a shop back home. And I can make arguments both ways for taking and not taking a class. It's enough to drive me crazy.

My first few pieces were were so burned up and full of cold shuts that they were useless. Hours of my time wasted. If I had someone to learn from back in the 90s, this whole process would have been SO much faster!
