▬▬ ABOUT MY CHANNEL ▬▬
👋 My name is Ryan & at age 30 I quit my day job. I used to work full time as a Sr. Front End Web Developer (I quit this job), & part-time as an adjunct professor teaching web development at a local university (I kept this job - I like teaching!). Both of my day jobs were awesome! But that couldn't change the fact that I'm completely addicted to the idea of building passive income streams that will allow me to retire from ever working a 9 to 5 job again.
The information shared on my RU-vid channel & resources made available is for educational, informational purposes.

Great video Ryan. I think one of the issues with us beginners is that we put a lot of effort in our first designs and they become our children. Nobody likes to get their children criticized, but we need to detach the design from the designer and put on the customer' shoes. I will get extremely sincere and will apply this kind of review to my Teespring and Redbubble stores and see where can I improve. Thanks for the tips!

Wohooo thank you. I felt every hit, my soul is recovering now ( that's my hopping). So, yes English is my second language. The first 2 designs where the ones that sold and RB made them the head of the shop. I focused a lot in the tags and I forgot the titles.... Anyways still recovering, seing this at 4 AM. Thank you again for your time I needed this and I know you give all of this for free but I watch all your videos even bought tools that really are helping out. Not everybody understands how selling online works. For me it's like brain surgery, never did this. I tried a few things along the years but abandoned them. I'm rumbling but thank you and maybe this helps other too.

I’m just learning as well. The 800 items on RB is very impressive! I’m barely at 33 with 3 weeks in. It seems that you are approaching it with an artist mindset and Ryan is approaching it from a business stance. Since you already made sales, you probably used good and related keywords for those products. So you’re doing that right! We’re all learning for sure
@tod7977
@tod7977 3 года назад
all your designs are beautiful patterns, but few to none even have the word 'pattern' in them. Maybe instead of removing all these designs, you could update the titles to include the most popular search terms relating to different kinds of patterns. Even though a lot of your designs are not, for example, 'geometric pattern', or 'psychedelic pattern', maybe including those terms would help them appear in seaches that are real niches, and get you some sales from related types of searches looking for niches of other related abstract patterns that are being searched. Geometric patterns for example is a popular niche, and because yours are a slightly different type of pattern, perhaps that will help them stand out from the many generic geometric patterns. Just a thought.

I think you made great points and its important to make sure your titles are clear, and match the design. And niches, oh how I've learned how important the audience of your design is, it's so crucial. No matter how many designs you have, if no one is looking for them.... well, they wont find them lol. If that person really wants to succeed they will take the criticism as constructive which is really hard but necessary in a dog eats dog world!! I personally have had to learn myself that what I think is good or would sell isnt the case! Hard lesson but again, a needed one if I am to grow! Thank you again for another valuable lesson.

My take on the "shred the shop" video. Unfortunely, sometimes the truth hurts. I learned alot from your brutally honest video. I think she had some very beautiful designs on her shop , but that wasn't the question...she definatly has design talent....the question was : why weren't they selling. You solved it by discovering that her product doesn't have a niche. A lesson well learned for me. I haven't gotten my toes even wet. I am just in the investigation process at this point. But, I enjoyed your video. Thank you.

@@RyanHoguePassiveIncome Yeah, it's a great mouse. Didn't like quite a few other ones I tried over the years, they were always uncomfortably wide since I have smaller hands. This one is pretty slim and no hard edges, so it's really comfortable to use for long periods of time. Never had any hand or wrist pain even when using it all day long. And that longevity is just incredibly good value for money. They recently came out with basically a re-issue of the same model which is virtually identical with some minor tweaks with newer tech, so I know what I'm buying once this one finally succumbs to entropy :D

Ahhh it is extremely clear now why he is not getting any sales. Not using accurate keywords. He is trying to sell abstract art on POD. I'm a newbie but I don't believe that abstract art can be good for PODs. I think this is his major problem. IT is very hard to do SEO in abstract art. You have to be a very good artist and/or do a lot of external marketing to sell this kind of art. For PODs, you need good design skills + very accurate keywords. I am not selling anything yet either but I have less than 50 designs on my RB account and only 10 on MBA which is what my problem is. However, all of my listings are really well optimized. I am not very good at design (never was actually) and this guy is doing way better than me but I can clearly see that even for me it would be difficult to find the right keywords for his abstract art. In short, it is not a design issue, it is a marketing issue he is facing.

The most important reason why people fail at print on demand is simply because PRINT ON DEMAND IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! people get overly exited after watching youtube print on demand vids and get the wrong mindset like its some quick cash grab. Firstly, i don't think you should be doing it just for the money. POD is highly competitive these days so you gotta really put in some real real real real work to see results(in most cases). Quality over quantity, work smarter not harder. If you try so so hard and still no results, move on. there's money to be made else where...u Just gotta find it

I see a lot of sellers from outside the United States creating designs for the US market with poor English. Words that are just gibberish. Probably because they were run through Google Translate. Or they’re not following local trends. That would be like me trying to sell designs in the Middle East or Asia from my desk in Detroit. I have no idea what sells in those local markets unless I use lots of merch tools.
@TMBTM
@TMBTM 4 года назад
I agree, I'm french and sell to the US market, I'm mostly making drawings and illustrations but when I'm using texts I try to keep them simple to avoid problems and when I'm not sure I'm always asking english speaking friends about it. Making poor english designs when you're targeting the US will only make people leave your shop. And all those designs that no one will buy are now just standing there, taking spaces in the searches, upsetting the buyers and making the sites look bad for everyone. (hope this comment is not filled with poor english, lol)

If you think your design is really good, don’t sell it in POD business, just go ahead and make your own brand. In POD you need a trick so that your artworks are visible to the buyers. Even if your artworks are not really that good, if you are visible to the buyers, it’s still at least a solid 5% chance that they’re gonna buy your design.
