A party of striped ass bandits decided that the middle of the road was the perfect place to hold a little meeting early in the morning.
This is why one of the first questions I ask people when they want me to look over their car is "When was the last time you had your brakes looked at/replaced?" I usually get a blank stare and an "umm" instead of an answer.
Don't expect your local tire shop to check things like that when you have your tires mounted or rotated because they don't get paid for that. Unless you have broken or missing parts that are GLARINGLY obvious, they probably won't even see a problem. A quick brake check can also reveal other problems to a person with experience in suspension work.
Your brakes and steering components should be checked at least once every year by someone who knows what they are looking at. Don't worry about that "trained professional" B.S. label because most anyone who does at least some work on cars can tell when something is worn out or broken just by looking.
And guess what! You're on youtube so you can watch a video to show you what to look for! Your average driver can usually spot damaged or worn parts just by looking at something for a few seconds and thinking about how it might work.
