God desires the kind of fasting that frees the afflicted from their chains and the yoke of injustice, according to Isaiah 58:6-11. It ought to be built on a change of heart and a way of life that reflects our Lord's priorities and not our own. Along with donating clothes to those who have nothing to wear and food to the hungry, fasting should also include helping one's own relatives when they need it. He want's us to Fast from sin, period.

There are many types of fasting. You could simply skip a meal and offer prayer in its place for the sake of your health. God will never give you more than you can handle.
