They should really do it for the achievements we get in the games, like all of them add points to our steam level. I think that'd help people buy and want to play more games.

After hearing all benefits, I can confirm that this is useless for actual gamers who just want to play and dont socialize.

The real trick was to be active during the 2019 summer sale for Team Corgi. 12,800 points on a single badge, of 18,122 total.

There was a event where I was in a Corgi Team if I remember correctly and just played Starbound for a few hours and jumped from level 13 to level 68 there was a mission In starbound that I had to do which give me like 100 or more xp for every cola I drank in starbound and someone made a steam workshop mod for starbound wich made cola craftable by using 1 dirt

So, I didn't hear a single reason why I SHOULD lvl the account.

Finally, a video that actually answers the questions we ask instead of having us wait through 5 minutes of random BS! In this day and age of 20 minute tutorial videos that are padded to the max, you have no idea how grateful I am.

I will be honest, in my opinion leveling up steam account just to be able to have more friends or more showcase slots or being shown higher in other people's friends list is not worth it, I do not see a single point to have more friends or showcases or showing that you have "high level" with your friends, if the leveling system gave something more then it would be somewhat usefull, but at this point it's pointless in my opinion

you can also buy the seasonal badge with points which gives a TON of xp. you get points for buying games. I recommend sprucing up your profile to your liking with points then spending every other one you get on the seasonal badge if you choose to level up that way.

Buying the seasonal badge in the points shop also gives a MASSIVE amount of xp, and if you spend a lot on games, its the best place to level. I have completed only the warframe trading card badge, and have 6 years of service, but my account is level 66 almost entirely through seasonal badges.

Told myself i'll level up to 100 and thats it. Now here I am at lvl 401.

I bought a badge when the Summer sale was on called - Summer Collection badge and then spending points to level up that badge which then levelled up my Steam Level to 18. Not sure if this is a regular thing or not but I have water pistol badge on my profile now :)

I have never in my +10 years of Steam looked at someone's Steam profile. Let alone their level

I'm level 30 and I never talk to or play with the 39 out of 450 people on my friends list anymore.

I like how during the badge section you kept showing fo76 cause that game just hands out trading cards like crazy and it real easy to upgrade the badge

So basically: Don't waste your time leveling your steam account like an npc consumer.

I have friends that are like lvl 100+, meanwhile I have a 12 year account being just level 19. I don't how I managed to get to that level because I use Steam to play games and nothing more. Also I don't play online games so my inventory is almost empty 👍

In the grand scheme of things the leveling system is honestly just a very convoluted and complecated rng coupon system and *legal penny mint,* the higher the level you are the more reliable the rng becomes depending on what boosters your eligible for. it's why you'll see people ether be level 3 or 3,000-something

I don’t know why they don’t just connect it to in game achievements

it's expensive as hell and a money sink, and i don't think youll ever fill the 1k friend slots.

its a shame they made the system so arbitrary. you can play thousands of hours for years and barely go anywhere with it. Great way to get people to not care

So, 17 yr vet here. I'm level 113. I stop trying around level 106. During when the valve index first came out, there was some exploit to increase your level. Now, I have a very bad memory but I remember it had something to do with the game FTL? Maybe stardew valley? I believe by doing something in that game it would help contribute to leveling up your steam profile because it was a steam event. Now, I also think it really helped because I bought the valve index from the steam store by having steam points and contributing that to my level. But I remember going from level 60 to level 100 within 30 mins. After that, I just stopped because I understood at a certain level, your chances of getting boosters doesn't increase any more. Also, the only dumb reason to level up is for booster so you can sell em. You spend money to eventually make a little money way later. I used to get 3 boosters about 2 or 3 times a week but now it's like once every 2 weeks? You then sell that and make profit. Also, steam idle master helps and is is the best way to farm cards so you can sell them. Especially if you have 2k steam games like I do. I'm at that point where I don't care to invest money in my level. I only spent like 100 bucks over that past 17 years (stopped when index came out) but I made like 50 bucks in selling cards and boosters. I still have over 2000 steam cards to farm and sell lol. Luckily, selling cards for each game is less painful these days but still time consuming.

The intial friends cap being 250 is so funny because who the fuck genuinely friends that many people

Also be on the lookout for events. The steam grand prix badge 2019 was able to be level boosted for literally hundreds of thousands of xp, which put me at around level 150 easily.

Thanks for the video now I understood what is going on with those cards ,steam level etc. But I thing that it is just a complicated waste of money and time. I'd rather just waste money to by games on discounts and time to play them that why I have steam for.

Leveling upshould make games and stuff cheaper by a minor amount

Just as a note, each game with cards has 2 different badges. The first is as you described with up to 4 upgrades to a level 5 badge. Then you have a rarer, gold badge for each of them that only has it's base level, but it's about as difficult. With several free to play games, you get a card drop per $5 spent in the game which drop over time just as basic ones do. Several of the games with DLC and similar also gain drops with money spent on it. You also have the seasonal badges that give 100xp per level of them that you can buy using steam points from your purchases (Other things there include profile stuff), they have no max level from what I've seen. Then there's the various special sales events cards that also have no maximum level, but you get them from tasks or purchases.

I'm not sure if this is confirmed or not, but I was once told your account level influences how fast cards will drop when playing games that have cards (capping out at level 50)

during the tree major steam sales its possible to buy levels with steam points ive only bought 2 lvl40 badges which brought me up 60 odd levels to lvl 74

I got 1200XP just from the awards on my reviews, so getting awards will also gain you xp (on the community contributor badge, each reward gains you more xp but the badge remains the same) this is one of the best ways and yet you didn't even mention it , probably didn't know it at all tbh...

It's besicly limit you with level system I mean what is the reason to have limited amount friends and increase this little with level up ? One other thing my friend list way less than 250 and I don't if other people able to see my profile in fact it's better if the able to see less stuff in my profile

There's a lot of comments pointing out the obvious so yes, unless you care for cosmetics, leveling up brings essentially no benefits, but that's not the point. You are not hindered in any way by being lvl 1 on steam, but if you want to have a themed profile with many matching showcases of badges, completion rates, achievements, etc. to show, you can always level up to get them. Granted now you don't even need to level up to have showcases, if you buy games and dlc you get steampoints that you can trade for them. Still my lvl 69 profile is cooler just because it's level 69 and I have a lot of cool badges from games I've poured many hours in that I like to show. I've even gotten some community awards from people who found my profile cool, there's no harm in any of it. The other bonuses are also harmless, more random packs and extra friends when you probably handpick the cards you need to craft badges off the market and have a starting list of 250 friends make no difference. Look at it this way, if it did make a difference, for example a lvl 1 account had a limit of 5 friends, then there would be a problem with the level system but as it stands, it's just a niche thing for some people to enjoy

How do you know when you get a booster pack? Like does a notification arrive to you that says you got a booster pack or something?

I am totally unbothered by this. I see no upside in having to spend money to have more friends than i can remember and recognise, and appear on top of their list.

Not every Badge is capped at Level 5, also there are FOIL Badges and Eventbadges

I got 11000 xp from the steam grand prix 2019 and went from like level 14 to 53, never bothered around with cards after that.

I used steam for a long time before I even realized it had the leveling and badge system. When I really learned about it I grabbed a few for the games I liked but that's about all I'll do. I don't got 200+ friends so I'll never need that many slots

tbh, getting achievements should also increase EXP, bcuz i can just spend money on trash games, buy 5 of all their trading cards and GG, level 200 baby. If i got EXP from achievements then that's a good way to make me 100% a game i love and a good reward if i planned to do it anyways

I always hated the way they handle cards. No matter how many hours in a game you have, you can't get more cards for it. You have to have whatever those "friends" things are that people these days keep talking about... Jokes aside, nobody I know actually cares about Steam trading cards, so I'd have to bug them to give me their cards, which is a hassle with how clunky the trading system feels... Of course, you can always jut buy them off the market, and I just LOVE seeing numbers go up. I've already spent at least $60 on steam trading cards.

To sum up: People who level up have slightly more fancy profiles which no one looks at in general. So it's only for you to see not only how much time you waste in front of screen, but also how much you spend real life cash on them too

The log in weekly thing to retain eligibility thing confuses me because I open steam on my pc almost every day and log in with the factor thing on my phone occasionally and it told me I wasn't eligible, like I had to log out on pc, log back in with two factor and then it was eligible again, but now it's been more then a week and it's still eligible, but I haven't got a booster pack for cars in ages

You don't even have to "play" the game to get the cards, you get them by simply running the games. - But I wish they'd lock them behind achievements or a number of achievements or something. Makes much more sense.

I leveled up steam because I had steam credits I didn't know what to do with, now im level 78 and it only serves to boost my ego that I'm the highest level out of my friend's friends.

Very useful. But in all honestly if anyone want steam points or steam level there are people selling those service for cheap. Im level 500 in steam with over 1mil points.

I got my steam level (101) my event participation. I got 100 XP for Steam Grand Prix 2019 - Team Hare and 55,500 XP for Steam Grand Prix 2019 badges. I have not participated in events since then. Level 30 is all I "needed" as only use 3 featured showcase slots. I have never crafted a game badge for 2 reasons: I'm not a trading card person I like being exactly 101.

My tip for leveling up easily is to play games that offer more expensive cards to sell. Then use that money to buy out cheap badges. Like the badge for the game: Mountain.

I've been on steam since 2008 and have received a grand total of ONE booster pack. Maybe I'll just spend the 20 cents to get the rest of the cards for a game I really like.

Been using steam since it launched and i am level 14 and have 5 friends and one of them is my wife 2 have not been on for years and the others i never talk to or play with anymore impossible to make new friends as well

pick up the Seasonal Badge in the point shop, they give free steam xp as well

Well, I can assure you with prodigious certainty that the increased friend list cap is the most useless perk I could possibly receive.

Luckly there was a glich a few ears ago where you coud get free exp.

It's pretty convoluted, but it's annoying that you can't increase how many friends appear on your profile, as mine only shows 6, and I'm over 100. There are also certain games which have insanely expensive cards, because people barely play them, but they seem to be few and far between.

So there's no benefit at all leveling up. No nerd has more that 2 friends.

I use steam for now over half a decade. I have 5 friends and four of my five friends have also less than 10 friends yes I clearly need to level up so my friends see me high enough in the rankings.

Honestly, leveling used to be very easy during holidays with no cap on how many times you could level, but ever since they changed it to points it all kinda went to s#!t
