Her deafness is way funnier than her jokes. When a comedian hears more clapping than laughing in the audience, it should be a clear indication that they are a hack. I'd have more respect for her if she just called her act what it actually is, motivational speaking.

@@21kburd She’s actually both. She’s pretty funny, intuitive, inspiring and intelligent. Most motivational speakers cannot be comics and move you in such a way with what they’re saying. I find her genuine and human with all that she’s been through in her life.

My wife is disabled. In my experience, no one has a better sense of humor than people with disabilities. They're so tired of everyone walking on eggshells, talking with a condescending "awww bless yer heart" tone... It's refreshing for them to have people just laugh and joke with them. I come from a family that loves to tease, so it's in my nature. My wife has told me that me teasing and joking with her back when we were just friends was one of the reasons she loved hanging out with me lol

I think that with so many people playing victim in society these days and getting offended at the drop of a hat, people are just trying to be sensitive and nice. But I understand your point. When one of my commuting friends from NY was about to start chemotherapy to combat breast cancer, I bought her a Chia Pet and told her, "I know you were thinking about getting a wig but if you apply these seeds to your scalp, you'll at least have some organic growth on your head that will be good for the environment, too." Everyone was shocked but I had never seen her laugh so hard!!! She loved the Chia Pet but no, she opted for the wig.

I know that my family has a history of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and macular degeneration. I take care of myself to protect against all of those, but I still joke with my S/O that he will have to read to me and push me in a wheelchair. I know what may happen to me because it has happened so many times with my family, but I can’t let it get me down. I love to read and would hate to lose the ability, but my S/O is an amazing reader so it makes it easier to think of the possibility

YES!!! 100% After losing my husband, no one jokes around with me. Everyone takes things too seriously. Even when I joke around, ppl aren't sure if they should laugh or not. It's like I'm in an alternate universe... No one speaks my language making me even more isolated than I already am by my disability. I talk to God all day long. He gets me and made me this way. He provides, and has created a beautiful colorful diverse world. Disabled ppl are the strongest ppl in the world indeed! ✊💪♿

Who's laughing? When the audience is clapping more than laughing at a comedy show, you know you're a hack with her 50s Borscht Belt style of humor. No one who actually knows what funny is laughs at anything other than the fact that she's deaf.

What a truly amazing woman, I can truly resonate with this. I was born 22 years ago and I was born deaf. I was rushed to the hospital and had gromits in my ears. When I was 3 I gained my hearing back.

Lost my hearing at 16 no rhyme, or reason why. I was a lead orchestra member, got invited to play for the French orchestra. Boom like that my hearing was gone. I never stopped playing violin even though I'm deaf and I used vibrations instead. Love her story and humor she's a true person to heart.
