Little to late for me! I was never offered any options other than crowns!!! Unfortunately, we as patients put our trust in the professionals that tell us what is the best for us. This is very sad for me to find out this information now.
It’s really to know what the current situation of your teeth were when they did the procedure. The most important thing that comes down to is are you happy with the final result ? And your smile result ?
I have a total of 6 crowns. Although they aesthetically look good, I got them because my teeth were damaged and 1 has a root canal. I had multiple fillings on the other crowned teeth and the fillings started falling out. So my dentist recommended crowns because he said he didn't want to do another filling that probably wasn't going to work. So I completely understand what your saying. And also, I got my work done by a great dentist in the USA, not Turkey
As I have explained in the video- certain times the tooth are already damaged that a crown maybe the best viable option. So based on that the dentist makes a decision on it. But generally if we can avoid crowns for natural and virgin teeth then veneers are Better options. And it’s not about turkey- good dentist are available all around the world. We just need to find the right dentist. I am very sure even in turkey there are good dentist present. 👍👍
I just received a crown today, I wish I had viewed this video earlier, but my dentist called and rescheduled my appointment much sooner. My mistake for not doing proper research.
Don’t stress too much. You don’t know the current situation of your tooth. Maybe in your situation the crown might have been a better choice. Best always good to do some research and discuss things in detail 👍

Chipped front tooth. No fillings. Had veneers starting at age 30. I replaced the veneers every 10 to 12 years when they fell out. Front tooth had more cracks and dentist recommended a crown. I just had it done. I am 75.
I would never get a crown on a healthy/virgin tooth. That being said, I have pretty terrible teeth and this has resulted in several crowns and two bridges. I LOVE the porcelain crowns: they are strong and feel great. One of my bridges is wonderful and one has been problematic due to having had a failed root canal and then a failed implant. In any case, I can't imagine ever getting a crown for strictly cosmetic reasons but for damaged teeth they are fantastic despite the fact they are ridiculously overpriced and the dental industry is a huge scam as a whole.
How can anyone even know if it was shaved too much? Or if they are going to shave it too much? I just had a crown only due to sensitivity to cold water. I didnt know exactly where it coming from. And not even the test that was done did. But he felt certain on which tooth. This was 2 months ago and that sensitivity didnt even go away. Now other problems are happening. I saw the before and after picture that they were using for themselves, and it looked so tiny compared to my other teeth. I know it's too late but it's pretty depressing
@Murtaza Mak I had an upper anterior 4 crown prosthesis [made of porcelain fused to metal] put on back in November 2023. Four months in, it's chipped off in three different places and fallen out four times already. The dentist says it's nothing to worry about and puts it down to bruxism also. I have a hunch that he's not being straight with me and need to look into it and do some research. What would you recommend material-wise since porcelain fused to metal has proven to be demonstrably of poor quality? I don't have a big budget, I hasten to add. And is it normal for the prosthesis to fall out that many times in such a short time? Your advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
Consider yourself lucky. The force and tension would have transferred to your remaining tooth if the crown hadn't fallen and become loose, causing its ligament to become sprained or inflamed. If that were to happen, your tooth would have been extremely painful and chewing on that side of your mouth would have been impossible for several months or years. To avoid these problems, it's important to have the correct bite after placing a crown. If I were you, I would go to a different dentist.
My porcelain crown on metal lasted 21 years. Overall, it's still in good condition. My nightly grinding eventually led to pain, but it was only because of a sprained ligament and not the crown itself.
I tried to fix my teeth 7 years ago and that douche dentist suggested me to get a dental crown on my front tooth. I was 20 back then and it was a perfectly healthy tooth, it just lightly overlapped my other tooth. Worst decision ever! I had no idea about the limitations of dental crowns. Such as- it's all or nothing scenario when it comes to teeth whitening. To make matters worse, my front crown is sticking out now. I am terrified of meddling with it again now. Is there any hope for me?
Sorry to hear about that. It’s really hard to comment on it as I don’t know the previous situation when the dentist suggested you the crown. The decisions are made on clinical condition of the tooth, and we generally make a decision at that point in time based on the tooth health and long term health and prognosis. Unfortunately, it’s really hard for me to comment on it without having a detailed look at this tooth. Have you had another consultation with a dentist ???
Difference between cosmetic treatment vs. Therapeutic. Crowns for protecting the chipped or cracked tooth with fillings, crowns are called for. Cosmetic issues = vanity, unnecessary. The video title is misleading. If you need crowns for therapeutic reasons, yes, get them. If you just want cosmetic improvement, then do veneer instead of crowns.
6 years ago i had to get a front tooth root canal from falling down. Outside structure of tooth is in great condition (no chip or breakage) although it feels slightly weaker than the other front tooth ( I will not eat an apple without cutting it) Now my dentist who did root canal procedure never mentioned a crown and he doesn’t work at same facility. 6 years later this new dentist is pushing me on a crown… got a second opinion and same story.. with no other alternative mentioned which is upsetting. Basically.. “get a crown or let ur tooth break over time” it really does not sit well with me that they want to take out half the structure. So I told them no. And I was told I’m overthinking it.. With research I will talk to cosmetic dentist I am even willing to travel to handle this tooth without shaving the structure away. What would you recommend asking when I talk to a cosmetic dentist
I had root canals in my lower 4 teeth after a car accident. They were knocked flat then put back in their sockets but the nerves died, hence the root canals. No crowns over them and that was 38 years ago. No problems. I agree not to go shaving your teeth unless there is a real good reason, like cavities or bad filings...have had crowns from that.
@@drmurtazamak it wasn't my dentist that did it as he won't root canal back teeth. The dentist that did the root canal was not a nice person and I won't go back there. I can see how my own dentist feels about it. So far no issues. Thanks for replying. 🙏
I am 57 years old. Dentist advising to do all crowns on my front top teeth . The fronts are a bit thin but look okay but the back side I have erosion due to Gerd. I am terrified to get my teeth shaved down. For erosion on the back side can bonding/ onlays be an option in todays innovative world? I know the reality is the crowns will not last forever and like you said I will be left with hardly any tooth structure. Thanks in advance if you are able to offer any feedback,
The back of your teeth can be filled with composite fillings. If the erosion has reached the front, have it fixed with composite materials. The composite will be attached using an etching solution, and no drilling or tooth removal is required. If done correctly, it should last several years.
Thank-you for the very informative information re: the many cons to having a crown. I am strongly considering a crown for a tooth with a root canal from about 10 years ago. I wish to protect the tooth from cracking as another root canalled tooth did crack as these teeth as you know do not receive a blood supply. What do you recommend for protecting root canaled teeth if not a crown what would be another options please thank-you so much. Erica Denison
It really depends on the tooth condition. How much tooth was previously damaged and cracked prior to the treatment and after treatment. But With Root canal treated teeth generally the tooth become brittle so crowns are better options, but best to discuss with your dentist who can guide you better as he can tell based on the tooth condition. Thank-you so much for your reply, your answer is very helpful as I had booked an appointment with my dentist Dr. Ken Soo in Maple Ridge for crown work on the tooth, which is has had a root canal for 10 years. But I just did not want to lose any of the tooth via the root canal process, to fit the crown over the tooth, but this is far better then losing the tooth an important molar for chewing via cracking due to being brittle. I am vegetarian to and eat lots of nuts which are hard so yes your advice re: the tooth becomes brittle is the same as Dr. Soo provided. Ive had half a tooth taken out because of many cavities. The dentist put a crown on my tooth. He said it wouldnt last more than a day. He was right. It fell out 8 times and I had to pop it in. It came out and I had bit into the crown with my molars breaking it. Im going back to the dentist and Im going to ask if he can build up the tooth and around the post thats still in my mouth. I really hope he doesnt take out the tooth, Im already ugly looking as it is
It really depends on the current situation of the tooth. Is it badly damaged?? You can always get a minimal preparation bridge in which we don’t have to drill the tooth too much. But it all depends on the current situation of the tooth. So in some situations we might have to remove more tooth structure to get a predictable long term outcome. However, in some situations minimal tooth removal works best. Hope that is helpful, best wishes 👍
I have done my zirconium theeth bridge and they have done a fantastic professional job as long you look after ur theeth the should last many many years!! Is after you if you have smoker or drinker!😊
@@drmurtazamak Hello Doc , when can a LOWER molar tooth , Be saved if it is broken more than half to the gum line, & dentine is showing with cavity …but no pain or infection to the root. Can that tooth be saved and would it need a root canal with a crown or would it be best to just pull it?
